Growing Demand For Job Specific Certification

NFIC finished a Training in San Leandro, California with

Finishing Trades Institute. Attendees went through the

“Train the Trainer” program as well as completed an

“Inspectors Course”.

The training was a great success with a clear

understanding of the products. This training included very

knowledgeable men from the Western U.S. including:

Rob West, James Staats and Peter Staats from Colorado; John Lawson from Oregon; David Stone and

Paul Apostle from Hawaii; David Romero, Val Chestohin, Robert Ringor, Dave Marshall and Joseph

Binion from California; and Henry Hidalgo from Nevada.

This training was the start to a long and prosperous relationship of

FTI and NFIC. The newly trained Instructors will be conducting many

more trainings in their areas, in the weeks and months to come.

For Your Information WHY Continuous Training Pays Dividends

After reading the article, “Continuous Training Pays Dividends” by Michael Vickers in the September/

October 2015 edition of Premier Flooring Retailer, I was compelled to list some of the interesting things

that I agreed with and fit well with our industry.

When companies are asked: “What is your company’s most important asset?” The standard answer is

“Our people”, but then when asked, “How much they spend investing in their people on an annual

basis?”….. that’s when things get quiet.

The truth is many companies put a high propriety on their marketing, operations, facilities, etc.

If we all agree that training is important, why do so many hesitate to invest in their people. An effective

training program requires time and money, but many companies don’t see these expenses as tangible

benefits.

Studies repeatedly show that employee development is one of the top reasons employees leave one

job for another. If you plan to attract Millennials into your organization, then training is a must. (Don’t

assume they know all they claim to.)

Given how challenging it is in the marketplace to find qualified employees, why not try to keep the ones

you have, and invest in them, You invest in new equipment, store improvements, advertising, and so

on. What about your most important asset ? Your people!

The Store owner asked the manager, “What happens if we

invest in the training of our people, and they leave the

company?”

WHY Continuous Training Pays Dividends Cont. The article quoted countless studies that indicate employee

training can improve productivity by as much as 200% or more. It

also gives the employees a sense of value from their employers. If

you have 10 people and improve their productivity by just 10% -

you just got a free employee. This sounds like a great return on

your investment!

The Sales Training that NFIC offers, helps the sales force

understand that they have to sell themselves before they can sell

any product. If the customer believes whatever sales person is

talking about they will buy whatever the sales person will sell

them. This is why education is so important for the sales person.

We give them the needed information on Woven & Tufted Wools,

so they are more comfortable selling these products. We help

them to be the professional for their client. We give them the do’s

and don’t for these products as well as information for a better

result on installation.

The Installation Training that NFIC offers helps the installer better

understand Woven & Tufted Wools, so that they can provide a

quality installation. It offers training on “Hand Sewing” that isn’t

taught much in the industry any longer. The installer walks away

from the training with the confidence of a satisfied customer when

his job is done.

In person training is still the most effective training. It allows you to

get deeper into the material, and can have questions answered

directly.

Again, whether its your employees or installers, show them how

valuable they are to you by your investment in them.
