About me…
Firstly, thank you for considering me to photograph your family! I consider it a great privilege
to be able to create memories for your future generations!
Style
You should choose me if you like my work and my style – when I work with children my photos
are natural, relaxed, spontaneous, fun. Don’t worry if your toddler is a horror! I have special
tricks to tame even the feistiest little monster!
For newborns I specialise in natural, classic and timeless photos. I concentrate on the
newness, the squishiness, the relationships, the details, the sleepy little expressions. You
don’t have to be in the photos with your baby, but I strongly believe that your little one should
have photos of you together to look back on and cherish as they grow older.
Don’t feel glamourous? I suggest having your hair and makeup done before hand for a bit of
pampering! I can organise this for you at the studio. Either way, don’t worry… let me work my
magic and you will treasure these photos for a lifetime and longer.
When I’m photographing families it’s all about the relationships, the chaos, the interactions,
big smiles, having fun – and most importantly showing your child’s personality, whatever that
may be.. What’s the best way to get spontaneous and fun photos? BE spontaneous and
HAVE fun! Don’t like cheesy, awkward shots? I don’t do those!! You WILL have fun and you will
leave looking forward to seeing the photos because you know they’re going to be
awesome!
Experience
I’m a qualified and accredited member and now after entering the 2014 IRIS Print Awards, I
am an Associate (comes with a fancy medal!) of the New Zealand Institute of Professional
Photography (NZIPP). NZIPP is the only qualifying body for photographers in NZ and this
means my work has been judged and deemed to be of a professional standard by a panel
of some of the best photographers in New Zealand. Their website - . www.nzipp.org
In 2015 I plan to enter again and hopefully gain another fancy medal!
Awards
I recently won 6 awards at the IRIS awards which is part of the 2013 NZIPP INFOCUS
Conference. I won 4 bronzes, a silver and a silver with distinction. Not a bad haul for a first
time entering! These awards attract the best of the best and to win an award really is
something. They are well recognised within the industry.
In 2014 I plan to enter again and hopefully become an Associate Member (comes with a
fancy medal)
I have won numerous silver and gold merits in the Kodak Gold Awards since 2009. Here are
a few examples.
Which session is the one for you?
Studio Session – Bright, white & beautiful!
It’s always Summer and sessions are always fun in my home based white studio with beautiful
light. We have various backdrops, props and colour options to customise your session to
perfectly suit you. Go bright and colourful, or classic and timeless. I love to keep things
simple and all about you – but I also love props. Why not do both if you’re not sure!
Location Session – my BIG FAT GREEN BACKYARD!
If you prefer an outdoors look, my studio borders a reserve including lush green foliage,
endless gravel paths, stunning backdrops of trees and enough outdoor props to keep
even the busiest children entertained and smiling! I have purpose built backdrops outside,
or you can go for a wild natural look and keep it all about the kids!
Lifestyle Session
This session takes place at your home and has a more “lived in” documentary feel. The
images might be of your family piled up on the couch, the kids jumping on their beds, or a quiet
moment lying down with your newborn baby. We can create a studio feel with a plain wall
and a window, and of course we can include your garden if the weather gods see fit. Please
note a charge may apply for travelling.
Pregnancy Session
This might be your first baby, or you might have several rug-rats in tow already – it doesn’t
matter! A maternity session celebrates the amazing, fleeting wonder that is pregnancy. It
might be your last days as a couple before you become a family… it might be just you and
your baby belly… or it might include all your children celebrating your belly and what is to
come… anything goes. !
My eyes light up completely at the thought of an outdoor session but it’s totally up to you if
you like the outdoors or studio look. My backyard where I shoot most of my outdoor
pregnancy photos is quite private.. all of these pregnancy shots here and on my website
are taken here.
You can bring as little or as much as you like. Jeans and singlets look great, a maternity or
stretchy dress, or I can break out my collection of dramatic skirts and gorgeous flowing
fabric to drape around you. We can show or cover your belly – the choice is yours. If you’re
worried about stretch marks or funny lines, don’t worry we can edit those out if you like!
If you want to bring hubby along for moral support that’s totally fine! If he’s going to be in
some photos, get him to wear something nice. This isn’t the time for the weekend t-shirts with
big logos. Leave them at home and wear a nice shirt! Or he can go topless and you can
have a beautiful organic and natural look.
Tips for a great pregnancy session
Schedule your session for 32-36 weeks
Keep clothing simple and neutral with a couple of colour options
Have your hair and makeup done for a special treat – this makes a HUGE difference!
Get Dad involved – plain coloured shirts are best
Allow 45-60 minutes including changes… sometimes I get carried away!
Make a dinner date! You’ll be all dolled up and dying to sit down, so make the most of
it!
Choose your final selection of photos BEFORE baby arrives!
Newborn Sessions
I love photographing newborns when they’re little. Anything under 3-4 weeks is perfect,
and around 2 weeks is even better. Ideally you will have already booked in your newborn
session before baby arrives, so you’re all relaxed and prepared and all you have to do is
turn up. Don’t worry if you’ve left it to the last minute – I always try and fit everyone in! If
you miss the 2, 3 or even 4 week window, DON’T WORRY!! Babies are gorgeous no matter
what age, and in a few months you’ll think your 6 week old baby was still TINY!!
To keep it simple… here are some tips
Bring spare nappies and wipes and a change of clothes for yourself!
Bring drinks and snacks for Mum or your other children.
Bring a dummy – even if you don’t plan to use one – they are a LIFESAVER for great
photos.
Formula or boobs for baby
If you have any favourite toys, booties or heirloom items bring them along
I have lots of nappy covers, headbands, hats and props if you want to use them
Try to have baby changed and fed before you arrive, but don’t panic if you can’t!
Keep baby in loose clothing which is easy to remove in case she falls asleep
There is always time for changing, cuddling or feeding during your session.
Bring an open mind, and some deep breathing. You may have some ideas in mind,
but all babies are different and while I’m pretty good at settling babies I also follow
their cues to keep them happy, so sometimes certain poses may not work with your
baby.
Tips for parents clothing…
Keep clothing similar to your maternity session if you’re thinking of doing an album
Have your hair and makeup done if you did so for your pregnancy photos
Plain coloured, neutral clothing is best – wear what you feel comfy in, but this is no
place for your trackies and baggy tshirts!!
Keep baby naked and wrapped or just naked with a nappy cover for family shots –
clothes can swamp them
One Year - “Smash & Splash” Cake Smash Session
Is your precious little one turning the big ONE? Why not organise a delicious fluffy cake with
squishy soft icing for him or her to attack, taste and roll around in! It’s a LOT of fun and results
in awesome photos every time, even if they need a little convincing. Nobody wants to take
home a sticky messy child, so we finish off the session with an old fashioned tub full of bubbles
and more smiles! They LOVE it!
What should I expect at my session?
To have fun! I pride myself on having a very relaxed and fun way of doing things. I try to keep
the atmosphere light and fluffy even if the kids are acting up. They’re kids – they won’t do
anything unless they want to!
There are no cheesy smiles or awkward poses! I photograph relationships, interactions, kids
being themselves and having fun! I always get the smiles, and I guarantee all my sessions – if
we don’t get the shots, or your child is having an off day, we reschedule and reshoot another
day!
Tips for a successful session with children..
Try to stay relaxed. If you’re tense they will sense it
Aim for 5-10 minutes of chit chat about the session before we get started – they will
come to realise I am not a threat if they’re feeling unsure
Don’t try and force them to do anything they don’t want to do
Don’t bribe them with food, treats or lollies – keep this as an absolute last resort and
take my cue – usually when you think it’s all about to turn to custard I’m just getting
started!
Be prepared to be in a few photos with them to begin with – this keeps them happy
and you will more than likely end up loving these photos. Yes, I can hear you now
saying you will hate them!
Keep clothing changes to a minimum – 2-3 outfits is plenty.
What happens after your session?
Within a few days of your session you will see a sneak peak photo appear on Facebook (if
you have selected that option). Within 2 weeks of your session you will receive an email with
a link to your private online gallery containing your photos. You can share this link with friends
and family and they are welcome to order from the gallery also. Please do not save, copy
or print the photos from the gallery. This is a breach of copyright.
We can also schedule an in person viewing session if you like. This is a no pressure,
informative option designed to help you get the best out of your photos.
Digital file collections
All of our digital files come on a custom printed USB stick. There are 2 copies of each file – a high resolution
file for printing from (you can print up to 16x20” sizes and larger) and a smaller, resized watermarked
image for use online, such as Facebook or email.
CD of 25 high resolution digital images with matching 6x4 inch prints $999.00
CD of 50 high resolution digital images with matching 6x4 inch prints $1499.00
Individual Mounted Canvas Prints
Canvas prints – our canvas prints are printed by a top quality printing firm who only deal with professional
photographers. This means their standards are of the highest in the country. They use top quality canvas
which is then tightly stretched over a pine frame backing ready to hang in your home. They come with a UV
protective coating and are made to last the distance. The colour and definition will amaze you! When
selecting your canvas print size, don’t forget to measure it out on your wall and then stand back and look at
it – they will appear much smaller once they’re on the wall and our advice is BIG IS BEST! In fact, if you choose
a size and find it is too big, we will reprint it smaller for FREE.

What about a themed shoot….
Themed sessions can be SO much fun! Especially if your child is at that age where they just want to play and
do what they want! That is perfectly normal, and the the more interested your child is in what we are doing
the better the photos will be.
I have lots of outdoor props if you want to use them – trikes, bikes, swings, prams, dolls, dress-ups, chairs,
horses.. you name it, I probably have it. These can be used in studio too.
