FOOD + BEAUTY = delicious you! We believe that nurturing and nourishing your body with foods brimming with food active nutrients is central to cultivating a beautiful you. Food actives are essential for our skin, body and mind to operate at optimum levels. And we all know how feeling good on inside shows on the outside!

However, with the stresses of modern living, our body is put to the test at every waking moment. An unbalanced diet, eating highly refined foods, using synthetic beauty preparations o r o v e r e x p o s i n g o u r s e l v e s t o environmental or emotional stresses results in a short supply of these essential food active nutrients and in turn, leads to detrimental effects on our body such as premature aging, altered mood and lower self worth.

Good food is nature’s beauty recipe. Whole nuts, seeds, grains, fruits and vegetables contain an intrinsic and synergistic mix of essential macro and micro nutrients including antioxidants, fatty acids, vitamins, minerals, amino acids and phytonutrients; the right active foods are, in a nutshell, the perfect beauty food for our whole body.

It is now moving into the world of beauty as consumers finally accept that topical applications are absorbed by the skin and metabolised (think nicotine patches). Luk beautifood looks after woman who care for their body with fresh, healthy foods but struggle to find beauty products that follow the same modern outlook without compromising their innate sense of style and love of beautiful things. I have a B. App. Sci. in Food & Nutrition, an Honorary Master of Science from Newcastle Uni for my professional contribution to the world of food & science, I’ve cooked for Prince Charles and Lady Di (& lots of executives and well-to-do folk) under caterer extraordinaire Norma Willis and in my catering biz back in the early 90′s, baked about 30 million bikkies pa for 8 years (remember Luken & May?), got sticky fingers creating Sara Lee’s Ice cream & Sticky Date Pud (gosh that was late 80′s) and can dish up dinner to 2 fussy little kids (that gets eaten most of the time!) On a more serious side…I have sat on various advisory committees & councils including the National Food Industry Council & Innovation Committees providing input on strategic and future issues (at Parliament House with 5 ministers present!) and was a member of the Small Business Advisory panel to the Reserve Bank Board. I built Luken & May’s brand awareness with in-house PR (my time was cheap!) and by being an active public communicator in the media, at business forums, and in the education and science industry sectors. I am led to believe that it is my ‘unique combination of creative flair and strategic management’ that won us over 20 export, entrepreneur and business awards including Jaguar Gourmet Traveller award for Excellence in Produce, the Australian Business “Success thru Innovation” prize and 19th & 20th spot in BRW’s Fast 100. I am a ‘jack of all trades’ with a vast array of skills from visionary leadership, and ‘guerrilla marketing’ to being technically savvy with expertise in nutrition & food science, quality assurance and New Product Development. Making money & being organised is essential in a SME so backend management – operations, admin and finance after years of hands on experience is second nature. I love how IT is now so affordable & accessible so it’s fun to run a small business again, and MOST of all I love mixing with my customers and making them happy. I also attempt to write another blog, am the founder of the Table of Fabulousness and only want to work 20hrs pw + a few evenings when the kids have gone to bed so I have time for me, my family & my biz.

My philosophy is simple…..’live the life you love’….and the rest falls into place. I created luk beautifood as I am ready to give a bit back to me so that I can continue to be a happy wife and mother (our kids now 4&5).

earlier Cindy Luken - Applied science degree in Food & Nutrition - built and sold Luken & May biscuits by 36 years. - Honorary Masters of Science awarded for dedication to food - 20+ export, entrepreneur and business awards

2006 Cindy’s first child born, heightened awareness of what she applied on her and baby’s body.

Whilst working with Jane McKellar (Elizabeth Arden and Stila Cosmetics CEO’s) on the body care brand Arnaud, Cindy conceived idea for making make-up from food.

With knowledge that over 30kg per person of ‘toxic’ lipstick is potentially ingested in a lifetime and a keen desire to create another business when her children reached pre-school, Cindy began to study lip products.

2007 Bench top development in Cindy’s test kitchen to create lipstick made from healthy food ingredients.

Base + flavours + colours for a menu of 7 in progress.

2008 Sourced manufacture after visiting extensive sites, transferred bench top formulation into laboratory.

Packaging designed and sourced.

Base formulation approved. Colours palette approved. Flavours approved. Initial brand offer scoped out and graphics designed.

Cindy’s daughter was born mid year.

2009 Product commenced Stability and Compatibility testing.

Cindy and her family packed up to live for 18 months on a 100 year old barge on the canals of France to enjoy family life together.

Packaging failed testing and project put on hold. (special soft touch coating caused the shell to crack)

2011 Cindy and family returned to Australia, children started pre-school 2 days pw. The 15 hr working week began! ‘live the life you love’

Modifications and extensive testing were conducted to packaging.

Business plan written scoping out an ‘online business’ model to connect and share the brand.

Cindy began writing a blog on “behind my biz – the creation of luk beautifood’ www.cindyluken.com

Table of Fabulousness began, a new-networking group for start-up and early stage business owners over lunch in her home. Built and designed first of 3 websites. www.tableoffabulousness.com

THE BASE – edible food and active ingredients All varieties contain Avocado (Persea Americana) Oil: A quick absorbing cocktail of vitamins A, B1, B2, C, D + E, potassium, amino acids and antioxidants. Soothes, nourishes and regenerates dry skin. Helps fights free radicals and supports collagen synthesis to keep lips plump and youthful. Castor seed (Ricinus communis) Oil: Very viscous vegetable oil extracted from the seed of the castor plant. Anti-inflammatory and quenching for hydrated lips, provides lasting shine. Cocoa butter (Theobroma cacao): Divine vegetable fat from the cocoa bean (think chocolate), melts at your body temperature. Highly emollient, enriched moisturising and a velvety texture for supple, soft lips. Corn flour: Creates body and creaminess, derived from natural corn. Gives a delicate silkiness to the texture, providing lasting softness. Honeycomb (Cera alba): Natural beeswax retains moisture and forms a protective barrier to environmental elements. Give structure to lipstick. Sesame seed (Sesamum) oil: Vegetable oil pressed from sesame seeds.
