About JermannJermann Winery was founded by Austrian-born Anton Jermann in 1881 in the province of Gorizia in the region of Friuli. Today the winery is owned and the wines are orchestrated by his great-grandson, Silvio Jermann who is flanked by his son Michele and General Manager, Edi Clementin. The estate has seen impressive development starting with its 110th anniversary, in 1991, when Silvio purchased vineyards in Ruttaris, the heart of Collio.

The Terroir

This is a company that interacts with the world every day, but its greatest attention is always reserved for the things that make a wine great.–Jermann Winery“

Villanova di Farra, located in Farra d’Isonzo

Ruttars, located eight miles from Villanova and very close to the Slovenian border

Jermann Winery has two winery locations in Friuli

The Jermann areas correspond to Collio and Isonzo, close to Gorizia, though Silvio has intentionally chosen creative freedom over DOC bureaucracy.

* IsonzoDesignated in 1974

Located close to Cormons and Farra d’Isonzo

Thermoregulated by its proximity to the sea and mountains

Split in two by the Isonzo River with red gravel and noble clay on the left bank and white gravel on the right bank

* CollioDesignated in 1968 and revised in 1998

Located 60 miles northeast of Venice

Thermoregulated by its proximity to the Adriatic Sea and Pre-Julian Alps

Water erosion 100 million years ago gave rise to Collio’s characteristic soil type, called ponca, highly stratified and rich in marl and sandstone, ideal for quality viticulture.

This second location, Ruttars, is every bit as spectacular as the first. Both wineries are fully active and the newer site is exclusively devoted to such iconic Jermann wines as Vintage Tunina and Dreams

Varietal WinesChardonnay IGT: 100% Chardonnay. Brilliant straw yellow with greenish reflections. An intense, fruity bouquet with distinct varietal notes on nose and palate, excellent persistence. Stelvin screwcap closure to maintain freshness.

Pinot Grigio IGT: 100% Pinot Grigio, a grape particularly at home in northeastern Italy. Reveals lovely, perfumed aromas and notes of pear flavored fruit on the palate. This is a wine that is fresh and lively, with depth, weight on the palate and round texture. Stelvin screwcap closure to maintain freshness.

“Jermann is widely regarded as one of the best--if not simply the best--white wine maker in all of Italy. That being the case, a lot of attention is focused on the top wines in the portfolio, such as “Vintage Tunina” and “Were Dreams,” both priced at $74. There’s nothing wrong with that, but in my opinion the more conventional looking Chardonnay and Pinot Grigio are terrific wines that are mistakenly overlooked by consumers…” –Michael Franz

Pinot Grigio IGT 201393 Points, James SucklingFocused white with pure, clean stone, flint and minerals. Nose of focused green-pear, exotic ripeness and juicy character. Great balance and finesse with an extended finish. One of the best-value in pinot grigios.

Cru WinesDreams IGT: 90% Chardonnay. The remaining 10% is a trade secret guarded by Silvio and his winemaking team. Straw yellow in color, with a fascinating and complex bouquet of ripe exotic fruit, melted butter, vanilla and pastries.

Vinnae Ribolla Gialla IGT: Predominantly Ribolla Gialla, with touches of (Tocai) Friulano and Riesling Renano. Brilliant, light straw yellow in color; intense fruit aromas with mineral undertones; fresh, tangy and flavorful on the palate.

Vintage Tunina IGT: A special field blend of Chardonnay, Sauvignon, Ribolla Gialla, Malvasia and the rare native varietal Picolit. Brilliant straw yellow in color, with golden reflections. Intense, ample, very elegant and persistent, with scents of honey and country flowers.

Vinnae Ribolla Gialla IGT 201391 Points, James Suckling

Dreams IGT 201294 Points, James Suckling
