At Great Life Music, it’s about going beyond the ordinary and the expected. We’re a Chicago-based company that takes a multi-layered approach to music production. We not only serve up the Live Music that brings parties and special gatherings to life, but as a full-service Sound Lab we create recorded music for various media platforms and produce original music and video for a wide range of artistic and commercial projects. All of our musicians and bands benefit from access to the Great Life Music Songbook, an extensive library of hip and up-to-date musical arrangements created and maintained by GLM co-owner Brian Schwab using the latest in music and computer technology. Our songbook celebrates genres, artists, and styles across the musical spectrum—the great Sinatra-style jazz of the ‘40s and ‘50s, the soulful dance grooves of the ‘60s and ‘70s, the high-energy rock of the ‘80s and ‘90s, and the slick and edgy beats of today. THE UNION is a 9-to-11 piece band (a core of 2 horns, 3 vocals, and 4 instruments) that combines the up-to-date and sophisticated musicality our clients want with the professionalism, knowledge and experience they require.
Building on their history of 10 successful years as a working band in Chicago and across the country, Matt and his crew of top-flight musician come to GLM with a new name and a new look – but the same rock solid grooves and engaging chemistry that have made them a highly sought-after ensemble for parties of all shapes and sizes.
As led by vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Matt Lewis, a mainstay on the Chicago music scene for over 15 years, THE UNION places a premium on the same qualities that have been the hallmarks of every GLM ensemble: authentic and inventive musical arrangements, world-class vocalists who connect with each audience, and a seamless performance style that sets the perfect mood for every event and reflects the unique vibe each client desires.

Vocalist, multi-Instrumentalist, & arts educator Matt Lewis has led a life driven by his passion for sharing music with others.
As a three time Jazz Ambassador for the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Matt has toured extensively throughout Africa and South East Asia. As a cultural ambassador touring on behalf of the Kennedy Center and U.S. Department of State, he was responsible for presenting concerts to the general public and for broadcast, conducting workshops for university students, and communicating with representatives from print, radio, and television media outlets.
From 2004 through 2006 Matt sang lead vocals and played trumpet with the Lt. Dan Band, led by actor/bassist Gary Sinise. The band toured Europe, Asia and traveled across the U.S, performing for audiences that routinely numbered in the thousands. This experience included a performance for the National Memorial Day Concert on the steps of the U.S. Capitol, with a live audience of 40,000 and a TV audience of over 2 million.
Matt is well known on the local Chicago music scene. He performs at jazz venues throughout the year, both as a headliner and in collaboration with other Chicago musicians. He can be seen performing every Thursday night at the world famous Green Mill Jazz Club with the Alan Gresik Swing Shift Orchestra, a band recently selected to perform at the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts.
Since 2000, Matt has been a resident teaching artist for Ravinia Festival’s Music Discovery Program, an innovative partnership that pairs performing artists with Chicago Public School teachers to enhance their classroom curriculum through music. In addition to improving the technical skills of young musicians, Matt is passionate about working with students to create original compositions based on their lyrics and musical concepts.
As a bandleader and vocalist, Matt has become a trusted and respected fixture in the Chicago special events industry over the last 15 years. Working with world-class musicians fluent in multiple styles, and drawing on his expertise in event planning to help his clients reflect their own tastes and desires, Matt has a stellar track record of bringing the perfect musical touch to parties at venues across Chicago, including Chicago History Museum, The Palmer House, The Field Museum, Cafe Brauer, and The Drake Hotel.
Matt is currently in the midst of producing his debut album featuring many of his original compositions, with a release date planned for early 2011.
