About Bihar
Bihar is India’s 13th largest state in terms of geographical size of 94,163 km2 (36,357 sq mi) and 3rd
largest state by mean of population. Its capital is Patna, in ancient history this place was famous by name
of Patliputra. The name Bihar was derived from the Sanskrit and Pali word, Vihara (Devanagari: विहार),
which means "abode". Bihar was separated from Bengal Presidency in 1912 by the Britishers on 22
March Bihar celebrate its formation day and it is known as Bihar Diwas or Bihar Day.

Bihar is bounded by Uttar Pradesh from west, in north from Nepal, east from West Bengal, and
by Jharkhand to the south which was part of Bihar till 15 November 2000. The main river of Bihar is
Ganga which made Bihar a agricultural state by its gift of fertile soils. 85% of total population of Bihar
lives in villages, in Bihar, there are many languages like Urdu, Maghi, Hindi however, Bhojpuri is the most
popular language.
Bihar has left great impression in history; it was a centre of power, learning and culture in ancient and
classical India. It has also given a 1st president of India Dr. Rajendra Prasad.
