FOR EVERY SITUATION

Page 2: Abortion isnt the right choice

Statistics about unplanned pregnancy

• In 2008, there were 54 unintended pregnancies for every 1,000 women aged 15–44. In other words, about 5% of reproductive-age women have an unintended pregnancy each year

• Unintended pregnancy rates are highest among poor and low-income women, women aged 18–24, cohabiting women and minority women

• At least 37% of pregnancies in every U.S. state are unintended. In 31 states and the District of Columbia, more than half of pregnancies are unintended

• In 2008, 40% of unintended pregnancies (excluding miscarriages) ended in abortion and 60% ended in birth. This was a shift from 2001, when 47% ended in abortion and 53% ended in a birth.

Abortion Statistics in USA• Abortion means the deliberate termination of a human pregnancy,

most often performed during the first 28 weeks of pregnancy• Nearly half of all pregnancies among American women are

unintended, and four in 10 of these end in abortion• Overall, the abortion rate decreased 8% between 2000 and 2008,

but abortion increased 18% among poor women, while decreasing 28% among higher-income women

• Compared with higher-income women, poor and low-income women are less likely to end an unintended pregnancy by abortion. Consequently, poor women have a relatively high unintended birth rate• In 2008, 40% of unintended pregnancies (excluding miscarriages) ended in abortion and 60% ended in birth. This was a shift from 2001, when 47% ended in abortion and 53% ended in a birth.

Page 4: Abortion isnt the right choice

My thesis statement• Should Minnesota legislature restrict abortion so that they can only be given if conception involved rape, incest, and/or life threatening to either the fetus or woman who is pregnant, because abortion is immoral, the baby is a personal responsibility, and a higher risk of becoming sterile? Or should the Minnesota Legislature continue to allow abortion after a certain amount of weeks no matter how the fetus was conceived, because of women rights, and it’s challenging to prove rape and/or incest?

Page 5: Abortion isnt the right choice

My opinion on abortion• I believe that there should be more restrictions on abortion, especially in Minnesota, so that they can only be given if conception involved rape, incest, and/or life threatening to either the fetus or woman who is pregnant, because abortion is immoral, the baby is a personal responsibility, and a higher risk of becoming sterile

• Though I couldn’t prove my thesis my opinion still remains the same

•Women should have the right to abortion if conception involved rape incest and/or is life threatening

• I personally wouldn’t like to be in one of those predicaments though I wouldn’t abort my child; I understand why someone else would

Page 6: Abortion isnt the right choice

Abortion Statistics in Minnesota• In Minnesota, 101,300 of the 1,052,247 women of reproductive age became pregnant in 2008. 72% of these pregnancies resulted in live births and 13% in induced abortions• In 2008, there were 14 abortion providers in Minnesota. This represents a 27% increase from 2005, when there were 11 abortion providers

Two different perspectives

• Means opposing abortion and euthanasia• People who are pro-life are

against women aborting due to the killing of the baby• Believe abortion is

technically murder of a unborn child

• Means advocating legalized abortion• Believe it is in the women

rights to have abortion• Roe vs. Wade

Pro-life Pro-choice

Did you know?•  The baby’s heart begins to beat 18 days after conception• 21 days, pumps own blood through separate closed circulatory

system with own blood type.• 28 days, eye, ear and respiratory system begin to form• 20 weeks, has hair on head, weighs one pound, 12 inches long• 16 weeks, genital organs clearly differentiated, grasps with

hands, swims, kicks, turns, somersaults, (still not felt by the mother)• At the time women abort their child, they are basically killing a

tiny human being

There are other options.

Page 9: Abortion isnt the right choice

Alternate Option #1 :Parenting• Means; The rearing of a child or children, especially the care, love,

and guidance given by a parent

• Take responsibility of your actions

• To be a parent is very expensive ,because the child or children have many needs and wants

• Having a decent-paying and steady job is helpful

• There are programs to helps parents in need care for their child or children

• Raising a child on your own is difficult and common ,and possible with the right mindset

• A bond between a child and parent(s) (adopted or biological) is very unique

Page 12: Abortion isnt the right choice

Alternate Option #2: Adoption• Means; the action or fact of adopting or being adopted. For

example, "she gave up her children for adoption”.• Adoption helps

give others the

opportunity to

have a family• One of the best

choices because of

closed and open

Adoptions• Closed adoption is the process by where an infant is

adopted by another family, and the record of the biological parent is kept sealed. Biological parent can have no contact with said infant or child

Page 13: Abortion isnt the right choice

Adoption continued…• Open adoption is a form of adoption in which the biological and adoptive families have access to varying degrees of each other's personal information and have an option of contact• Adoption helps give back to the community and helps

others who cant have children an/or just want to adopt children in need

• If you cant afford or don’t want your child, let someone who can and wants your child
