Am I eligible to apply for the Aboriginal Cadetship Program?

To be eligible to apply, you must:

• be studying a Bachelor degree in a Social Work, Psychology (4 year) or other relevant humanservicesfield;

• bestudyingfulltimeatauniversitylocatedwithinWesternAustralia;

• identifyasanAustralianAboriginalperson;and

• be accepted as such by the community in which you live, or have lived.

Our mission is to protect and care for children, and support people at risk of crisis. Our major focus is on meeting the needs of

vulnerable children and families.

What are the benefits of joining the Program?

• Study allowance of $600 per fortnight (pre-tax) during your 40 week period of study.

• A 12 week supervised paid work experience placement per year.

• $500 per semester towards books and equipment.

• Learning and development opportunities.

• Possibility of part time work during the university semester.

• Discover specialised career pathways with the Department.

You will be supported by a whole team of staff within the Department who will provide guidance, advice and encouragement throughout the Program.

Are my course fees paid for under the Program?

No, course fees are not included. Please speak to your University about other sources offinancialassistance.

You can start preparing by:

• Updating your resume.

• Getting together examples of your skills, knowledge and experience.

• Gatheringcopiesofyourtranscriptsofresultsandconfirmationoffulltimeenrolment.

• ObtainingaCertificateofAboriginaldescent.

What is the process after I submit my application?

1. Applicants are shortlisted and invited to attend an interview.

2. Don’t stress about the interview! Remember you can also ask us questions.

3. Refereesarecontactedandthefinalselectionsaremade.

4. All applicants will receive the outcome in writing.

5. New cadets will start in December 2016!
