A Student’s Survival Guide to Computers

and the Internet Abneet RandhawaBlock: 2 I.T 9 GirlsNovember 7, 2013

Practising safe computing while using the internet has several benefits such as keeping passwords, personal information, and one-self safe. Everyone must practice safe computing before getting behind a computer or laptop. This is because of the numerous risk factors such as cyber bullying and much more. First of all, by practising computing people learn how to create, and maintain a proper password. They learn useful tips such as making passwords long enough, using all the characters and not just letters/numbers, and not using the same password for more than one site. Furthermore, people learn to keep their personal information to themselves. For example, they will realize that they should never give out their personal information such as their name, age, address, phone number, and social security number to strangers or fraud websites. Lastly, keeping one-self safe is the key to safety. Everyone should avoid chatting online with strangers. This is because it can lead to other problems such as online harassment, cyber-bullying, and receiving sexually explicit images. Therefore, understanding and getting involved in safe computing, is very important for everyone. All in all, everyone needs to stay keen about the risks of using the internet, and staying safe online.

Not good ergonomics…• Workers don’t feel like coming to work• Some employees need to sit for long periods of time, and if they aren't sitting comfortably then they won’t get any work done• Decrease in efficiency• More pain and sorrow body parts• Takes more time to do the same amount of work

However, when ergonomics is up to par…• Prevent injuries• Job satisfaction• Decrease of stress• Increase in productivity• Employees are more engaged in their work• Save time

Ergonomics Should Be Important to Everyone

Ergonomic or Not?

Ergonomic • Adjustable and

comfortable armrests• Lever to adjust seat height• Larger and bent-in backrest

to support lower back area• 5 bases at bottom for

stability• Wide back support (12-19

inches)• Ability to swivel

Not Ergonomic • No comfortable head rest• No back support• No cushioning on the lower back• No armrests for the arms to rest comfortably on

I would give this ergonomic chair a 9/10. This is because it has the perfect back, lower back, and armrest support. This chair also has a lever to raise and lower it according to the users height. Lastly, this leather chair is high enough to support the neck. The only reason why this chair didn’t get 10/10 was because it doesn’t have any leg support. Whereas, I would give this wooden chair a 3/10. This is because it doesn’t have any support; and it can cause joint pain. Furthermore, the posture of the chair is very weak, and it has no support for the neck.

Under Canadian Law, file sharing is legal but with a few restrictions. They are legal if a person asks for permission from the owner to use their work. However, it is illegal if a person breaks the copyright rules. This is when a person takes someone else’s work, and claims it to be theirs without giving credit to the owner.

In my opinion, file sharing should be illegal. This is because the people who first made sites, videos, music, or online information should get the credit for it. Other people just duplicate the files, and post them on their site. Music and games are very common. For example, a person might post “free” music on YouTube, and other people will listen to it for free. The official owner is not getting any credit, and no one will buy anything from iTunes.
