Spotlight: Breakaway Techniques TrainingThis course explores the law regarding physical intervention and teaches staff disengagement and defence techniques for varying risk levels.

In-House Certification 6 hours Group

This one day course explores the law regarding physical intervention, the concept of reasonable force, and duty of care. Delegates will consider:

The causes of aggression, Flashpoints and stressors, Policies, controls and procedures.When physical intervention should and should not be used , Signs of escalation and de-escalation techniques, Responses

to aggressive behaviour, Recording and reporting incidents. The course teaches sta� practical disengagement and defence techniques for varying risk levels.

The techniques are currently being taught to various personnel working within the NHS, residential & nursing homes, schools, retail establishments, and other organisations.

Attendees will be able to: Understand ‘reasonable force’ Recognise the benefits of non-physical techniques Understand the law relating to Self Defence and Physical Intervention Perform a dynamic risk assessment Identify the importance of recording and debriefing

Demonstrate e� ective disengagement techniques (including- wrist, hair, throat and clothing grabs ) Demonstrate e� ective defence techniques (including punches and kicks) Perform third party interventions to assist someone else

Spotlight: Breakaway & Restraint TechniquesThis course explores the four levels of managing aggression including physical and non-physical defence strategies tailored to your workplace setting.

In-House Certification 2 days Group

This is a two day course that explores the four levels of managing aggression from understanding the causes of and reducing challenging behaviour, de-escalating aggressive behaviour, physical and non-physical defensive strategies, guiding techniques and control & restraint /safer-holding techniques.

The course will be individually tailored to support either the child care setting, elderly/dementia care, learning disability sector, mental health or drugs and alcohol abuse or which ever combination the workplace requires.

Over the two days the course explores the causes of challenging behaviour within the

required setting and pro-active strategies for reducing behaviours, de-escalation strategies for managing a situation once it has escalated, dynamic risk assessment principles to help sta� recognise the appropriate course of action and then the law regarding physical intervention.

It then teaches sta� physical techniques including disengagement, defence techniques, basic guiding and holding/restraint techniques for varying risk levels and situations. These techniques are currently being taught to various personnel working within the NHS, residential & nursing homes, schools, foster care and other organisations.
