It is recommended that you use your textbook for this assignment. 1. Common Law - much of the common law is used today. Common law governs all areas not covered specifically by statutory or constitutional law. 2. Jurisdiction – is an area in which a court or courts have the power to apply the law. 3. Precedent - is a decision that furnished an example or authority for deciding subsequent cases involving similar legal principles or facts. 4. Statute- is an American law that is passed by Congress and by state legislatures. Statutes are enacted by legislative bodies at any level of government. 5. Remedy- the means given to a party to enforce a right or to compensate for the violation of a right. Be sure to use reliable sources to look up these terms.
