About Me• Maria Reed• Graduated from Tigard High School• Oregon State University• 15 + years in the Tigard-Tualatin School

District teaching PE k-8, 1st, 2nd, 5th and 6th grades• Last year I taught 1st Grade Reading part-

time.• Married to John with 2 children

• Sam 16 and Olivia 12

December• Valentines Day………..February 13th• Birthdays: If you would like to celebrate your child’s birthday at

school, we suggest pencils, stickers, or a wrapped new or gently used book in an effort to move away from sugary treats on a regular basis.

• Birthdays are announced every day on the morning announcements.

Differentiated Instruction• Differentiated instruction is modifying our

teaching to meet the needs of all students.• Daily 5 reading• Daily 3 math

In math, opened ended questions and parallel tasks are used as strategies to challenge the different learning levels and styles of the students.

becomes!• Practice reading every night for 15-20 minutes• Visit our classroom website to practice addition and subtraction facts.

Goals For Achievment• Accurately read 47-81 words per. minute

with comprehension.• Complete 60-80 addition and subtraction

problems (to 10) in 5 minutes.• Write a personal narrative, informational

paper, and opinion paper with a minimum of 5 sentences.

Homework• Monday through Thursday• Read 15-20 minutes per night.• Practice spelling on your own every night.• Math homework to be completed and returned daily.• Purple Folder goes home and comes back every day.

Just Right Books• “I PICK” Books• The goal is to be reading books with 99%

accuracy.• However, many students are not reading yet,

so it is important that they choose books that interest them.• Let them picture read to you, and then echo

read what you read to them.

• We use the Daily 3 to differentiate your child’s instruction.

Notification• Send a note to school on the days your child will be traveling

home in a different way.• If it is a change during the day, call the office 503-431-4200,

• Attendance is vital to your child’s success, however if they are throwing up or with a fever, please keep them at home.

Time to Teach• We teach specific behavior expectations for our class and the

school.• Once taught, “refocuses,” are given after one prompt if the

undesired behavior continues.• 2 refocuses in one week= phone call from me.• 3 refocuses in one week=phone call from me and the child

staying for expectation class on the following Monday.• Parent transportation required.

Zzzzz…• Sleep: In bed by 8:00!

• Children need 9-11 hours of sleep each night to perform their best.

• Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It wakes their brain up and gives them the fuel needed to stay focused
