Historical ProfileThe Dipolog Medical Center College Foundation, Inc. (DMCCFI) is the first and only Commission on

Higher Education (CHED) – accredited paramedical institution of the province of Zamboanga del Norte. It is situated at suburban Dipolog City and occupies 22,500 square meters of land area. Its sprawling expanse contains four main buildings, a computer

laboratory, and a Nursing Arts laboratory, with separate structures for the library and cafeteria.

DMCCFI began as an expansion program of Dipolog Medical Center Inc., a stock corporation that started operating on August 1, 1974 as a fifteen-bed general hospital located at Sta. Filomena, Dipolog City. Dipolog Medical Center (DMC) is a realization of the ideas of fifteen Dipolognon medical practitioners and Msgr. Felix Zafra, former archbishop of Dipolog. They pooled their expertise and resources together to establish a high-quality hospital facility in the city. It took more than two years for the institution to a open a course of midwifery, which began operating in 1977. The school was then called Dipolog Medical Center School of Midwifery.

After several years of service to the community, the management of DMC felt the need for exposing more young men and women of the cities of Dipolog and Dapitan and the neighboring municipalities to medical training and the medical profession. Through the efforts of Chairman of the Board Atty. Albert Concha and Hospital Director Dr. Stephen Yap, the new revised Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) curriculum was opened. The permit by the Bureau of Higher Education, DECS, was granted in April 30, 1991, and the school began its first year level of BSN in a full-swing operation.

In the same year, the name of the school was changed to Dipolog Medical Center College of Health Sciences. In its continuing aim for excellence and growth, the management initiated their application to the Department of Education for permits to open other Health Sciences courses. In 1994, the Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy (BSPT) began its first year level, and in 1996, the Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology (BSMT) and the Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Technology (BSRT) also opened for enrollment.

In 1998, the Dipolog Medical Center College of Health Sciences became the Dipolog Medical Center College Foundation, Inc. It opened its Masters program with the course in Masters in Public Administration, and two more bachelor degree programs, the Bachelor of Science in Criminology and Bachelor of Science in Computer Science.

In 2000, the DMC Science High School, Bachelor of Science in Commerce, Bachelor of Secondary Education, Bachelor of Elementary Education, Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, and Bachelor of Civil Engineering were opened.

In 2003, in consortium with Negros Oriental State University (NORSU), the school opened its Doctor of Management, Doctor of Education, and Master of Arts in Educational Management courses.

By 2005, DMC Science High School together with the La Salle Schools Supervision Office (LASSO) signed a consultancy agreement that places the DMS-SHS under the Consultancy Status for a period of one year with LASSO recommending effective and advance of the High School until such time that the school will be ready for subsequent Supervisory Level.

In the year 2008, Bachelor of Science in Hotel and Restaurant Management was opened. The Commission on Higher Education had high praises for the excellent facilities like the Front Office, Bar, Hot and Cold Kitchen of the department. At present, the new HRM building will soon rise. The builders are working day and night to finish the mini hotel and restaurant within the next school year.

This coming school year 2010-2011, we shall witness the opening of the College of Law.

On the other hand, DMCCFI began its recruitment and staffing agency-the Staff Builders, which assists nurses and physical therapists for employment in the United States.

DMCCFI has also been granted by USAID an extension to its hospital facility through the JPAIGO. Presently, the college has been granted Applicant Status by PAASCU. Likewise, the college is also pursuing its status for the Institutional Monitoring and Evaluation for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (IQuaME).

Dipolog Medical Center College Foundation, Inc. is now a solid, successful landmark of Zamboanga del Norte. Its commitment to excellence is constant and unwavering, Through the years, it has earned the respect of the academic community, the loyalty of its employees and students, and the trust of the people and community it continues to serve.

“DMC Graduates: Torch-bearers of Competence and Service” is this year’s theme. As you journeyed through college, you were molded and trained to be competent young ones through quality education offered by this institution. You were also taught of how to help others through services. You are a torch-bearer, you are capable, you are a DMCian. Lift that torch for everybody to see!
