Okay, I will admit, there are lots of PKs who completely change directions, or those that live close-to perfect lives and seem to do every single thing correctly; you know those people, but we’re not all like that. I wear all black sometimes. No, I’m not rebelling against my parents; I just like the color black. And sure, I don’t cuss a lot, or do a lot of things the world views as bad, but that’s not because I’m a goody-two-shoes; that’s because I’m a Christ follower. People making these assumptions of me would be like me assuming a Chick-fil-A worker’s kid has to either be a huge hamburger enthusiast, or a devout chicken eater. Sounds stupid, right? That’s what people do to pastor’s kids. People give us higher than high standards and a lot of the time that’s the reason for the rebels. Once you’re labeled ‘pastor’s kid’ that suddenly becomes your identity, as if all decisions you make are because of a parent’s occupation. I don’t want people to see my actions and say, “Oh that’s because she’s a pastor’s child.” I want people to see my actions and say, “Oh that’s because she’s God’s child.”

11/3/14 Pastor’s Kids

Pastor’s kids… Rebels? Goody-two shoes? Know-it-alls? I’m a pastor’s kid. I have heard all of

these stereotypes more than once in my lifetime. Okay, I will admit, there are lots of PKs who

completely change directions, or those that live close-to perfect lives and seem to do every single

thing correctly; you know those people, but we’re not all like that.

I wear all black sometimes. No, I’m not rebelling against my parents; I just like the color black.

And sure, I don’t cuss a lot, or do a lot of things the world views as bad, but that’s not because

I’m a goody-two-shoes; that’s because I’m a Christ follower. People making these assumptions

of me would be like me assuming a Chick-fil-A worker’s kid has to either be a huge hamburger

enthusiast, or a devout chicken eater. Sounds stupid, right? That’s what people do to pastor’s

kids. People give us higher than high standards and a lot of the time that’s the reason for the

rebels. Once you’re labeled ‘pastor’s kid’ that suddenly becomes your identity, as if all decisions

you make are because of a parent’s occupation.

I don’t want people to see my actions and say, “Oh that’s because she’s a pastor’s child.” I

want people to see my actions and say, “Oh that’s because she’s God’s child.”
