Literacy Test (OSSLT)▸The Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test is first written in

the second semester of your Grade 10 year▸To be successfully completed sometime during your high

school career

40 Hours of Community Service▸Begin collecting in the summer after you graduate grade 8

COURSE LOAD

All Grades 9 students are expected to carry

a full timetable

(4 courses per semester = 8 courses total)

+ Band and/or Vocal?

These are outside of our regular schedule

These courses are selected in addition to the 8 courses

- 1 full credit in Vocal (AMV2O1) – at lunch (starts in Grade 10)

- 1/2 credit in band (AMR1O5) – before school

PREREQUISITES

A prerequisite is a course that must be completed in order to be prepared for the next course (see course guide).

POLICIES/PROCEDURES

There are no prerequisites for any Grade 9 courses or Grade 10 elective courses

(although some have recommendations e.g. it is better to have grade 9 music before grade 10 music)

A great course for those students requiring additional organizational, time management and skill development when entering high school

Enrichment Programming

Extensions and enrichment opportunities are available throughout the year. Enriched courses are offered in Gr.10, 11 and 12.

ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE

ESL PROGRAMS

SUMMER SCHOOL

Planning on attending Summer School for a course?

DO NOT put it in the course selection.

Leave a note during registration in myBlueprint.

Students register in May for summer school.

Connect with their Grade 8 Guidance Lead

about the process.

If a student does not take the course, or fails, they

are responsible to contact their Secondary

Guidance Counsellor immediately!!!

THE REGISTRATION PROCESS

1. Complete Registration Package

- determine which registration package to complete (see SLIDE 7)

2. Register (Select & SUBMIT) your courses on myBlueprint

3. Print the sign-off verification form (from myBlueprint)

(must be signed by a parent/guardian)

OR Choose the parent email option

Students(parent/guardians) are to submit “Out of Area

Exemption Form” to A.B. Lucas by February 4 th, and will

be notified of acceptance by February 11th

FEEDER SCHOOL STUDENTS

Your elementary school will submit all materials to Lucas, but you must have your packages to your Grade 8 teachers by January 29th

NON-TVDSB STUDENT

Student is responsible to email completed student registration package to LUCAS

o Each grade 9 homeroom has two Grade 12 student leaders who

are peer mentors and role models to all students

These “Viking 1O1’s” are available to help our new grade 9 students in

the following areas:o Welcome them to Lucas with a phone call in June

o Help support the transition to secondary school

o Answer any questions and help foster connections with other

students, teachers and supports

o Encourage students to get involved in extra-curricular activities

and community activities

o Help guide and assist students with their coursework
