My dad is important to me because he is a joiner and he is always there for me when I need anything fixed….He is
understanding and very caring….I sometimes get
along with my dad but not all the time. I really don’t know what I would do without him.
Abby Harvey S1The reason Park Bom is important to me is because she is an amazing singer and contributor to her group 2NE1. Park Bom
has been through a lot in her 30 years of life but she has always come back stronger than before and that is why I
admire her.

I chose my Grandad to draw in this project
because he puts time and effort to look after
Molly, my dog, and every day my Grandad takes my dog on a walk
up the Law or to the Ferry and he is eighty
years old….My Grandad is so funny because he
makes these weird jokes that don’t even make sense that makes us laugh….Overall my
Grandad is a great man. I hope I will be like this
when I am his age.
Antonina Kulmasova S6My aunt is a hairdresser
Ashley Hutchison S1I drew my Grandad like
this because he is wearing his Hearts
jumper that he always wears because that is his favourite team. I chose to draw him because he is
the reason I watch football now, he also took
me to my first ever football game (it was a
Hearts game)….My Grandad is important to me because he taught
me a lot of different things and we always
have a really funny time when we are with each
other.
Valerie Thornton S1I created this picture of
my mum because she is such an inspiring
person to me….This is what my mum looks like now and the writing in the back represents
what my mum does for me….I know that we
should appreciate our mums a lot more than
we do already. We never really do
understand what you would do without your mum, yes, dads are there but your mum should be the most
important person to you and it should stay that
way.

This is a drawing of my mum when she was 5 and I remember coming home from school, at the same
age, asking why there was a photo of me on the
mantlepiece. It was this photo of her. The reason I
thought that was me is because we look very
similar.I love my mother so much and she has been there through thick and thin.
Rachel McCabe S6In this artwork I opted to paint me and my friend Shona….What I
like about our relationship is the fact we rarely fight or argue because we are both chilled and always ourselves with each
other.
Glen Duncan S1My mum is important to me because she is a nurse that looks after ill babies. I think this is good because it is a hard job to look after sick babies and also look after very nervous mums and dads, this is important to
me because I know that my mum is at work saving little
children’s lives…It is also great to see some of the children that are now my age that my mum looked
after and they are also very grateful of what my mum
has done for them….This is great to see because it
makes me think that my mum isn’t just my hero but
she is also many other children’s hero as well.

This is a picture of my Nana who is important to me
because she was always there for me no matter what
happened and she was always looking on the bright side!
She died last month.
Matthew Norrie This is my Dad after coming home from the nightshift where he works his
socks off to keep my family alive. I have chosen my Dad because not only is he never too tired to help me
with things, feed me, treat me and be an awesome Dad, I thought it would be funny to draw him while sleeping which would reveal a few
imperfections which makes him my Dad.
Asana Jagelo S2Throughout my life my brother Renat has been a positive influence and
an important resource….Sometimes
we have really big fights but he would always
come and apologise first even if he didn’t start this…But often I get
really angry at my little brother, say nasty stuff and that I hate him but I know and he knows that I really love him and he
is the most important/special person in the whole wide world.
I am proud to call him my brother.

There’s a wise saying that if you have met one person with autism, you’ve met one person with
autism. It is a condition that varies from person to person. I find it dispiriting when people think that my older brother Aidan, who has severe autism, is
suddenly going to start painting cherubs on the ceiling or designing a new gadget for Apple. Aidan
has a real struggle communicating and understanding the world around him. My brother
can’t talk, but he talks with his eyes. He leans down to look at me and moves his head from side to side, a huge, delighted, loving grin lighting up
his open, sunny face.
Our relationship hasn’t always been easy. For many years he would not make eye-contact with me, but now he tries so hard, and there is such
warmth in his sideways glances. I tried to show in my drawing the kindness and affection reflected in
his eyes when he looks at me.
My brother is a truly worthwhile person, and it bruises my heart and makes me feel protective
when people shy away from his cheerful yells, not seeing the goodness in his soul. Aidan asks for
nothing, and gives back completely genuine and honest love. He can out-bounce any athlete on the trampoline, and land like a butterfly. He
won’t do anything the way you’d expect. You have to think outside the box to make him happy, not
put him in one.

I decided to draw my Auntie Alizanne because she is one of the relatives I cherish the most. I’ve only seen her a
few times in my life but I still love and think of her. I do not see her as often as I
would like to because she lives in Johannesburg, South
Africa.
Kyle Forrester S3My mum is special to me because
she is my mum. She was always there for me and even though she isn’t here anymore, doesn’t mean
she will be forgotten. My mum was the most important person in my life
and she always wanted to help people when they felt upset and
hated to see people sad. She was always there for me and my brother and now if feels empty without my
mum but thanks to her she has made a huge impact on my life and I
will never forget her nor anyone else will. Even though it always
brings a tear to my eye when I think of her I will never forget the good times we had together neither will her friends our family or anyone
else who got to meet her. She was the best woman I have ever known
and for that reason alone she is special to me.

I chose to paint my twin brother Andrew as being a
twin is a rather rare thing but my relationship to Andrew is the closest one I have as we have always been with one
another….As much as we can argue with one another and get on each other’s nerves I
could not imagine my life without him.
Caelan Smith S3This is a portrait of my dad….he has always been
there for me over the phone or standing right in
front of me. He works offshore….so sometimes it
can be hard to keep in touch but he always
makes up for his job when he comes home….the best
thing about him coming home from a 3 week trip to the rigs is just getting to see his face when he
sees my mum, my brother and me. I chose my dad because I love him and
nothing will ever change that, through the good and
the bad times he will be who he is and I quite like it
like that.
Jay Maltman 1CThis is a drawing of my sister Darcey. She is 10 years old and very unique. She is an amazing sister with so many
talents and virtues. She is creative and she loves drawing. She has an
inventive mind that she uses to make cool models out of things that would
normally be thrown away. She is thoughtful and caring towards others
and a brilliant friend. She is funny and she makes me laugh. She is generous and sharing with the things she has. She always smiles and thinks outside
the box. She is inspirational to me and to others because of all the things she
does. She is a beautiful girl and I wouldn’t want her to change. Overall I couldn’t imagine life without her and she makes me proud to be her big
brother. She is the best sister I could ask for with all her talents. She isn’t
like anyone else I know. She is special in her own way and that’s why I love
her.
Hassan Meah S3The drawing I have produced is a portrait of my cousin….The reason I
chose to draw him is because he means
something to me. He is a person who is really easy to talk to about anything really….I feel my cousin really takes time out to spend time with us. He
also spends money on us like buying gifts or maybe taking us somewhere….I really love my cousin’s company and so does everyone else. In the future I hope he could
move back to Dundee as he would be here all the
time.
Hannah MacKay S1This is my mum, she is special
to me because she is very musical (like me)….My mum is also very funny and makes me laugh when I’ve had a bad day or tells jokes to the whole family….She gives me good advice and encourages me
when I need help or am struggling with
something….I’m glad my mum is who she is and that
she helped me become who I am and that without her I
wouldn’t be as musical as I am today!

Eve Crowe S6My Gran has been my inspiration my whole life, she’s strong, caring, independent and everything else I want to be myself. When I was a child she was always the one who encouraged me in my art, even when my older cousins were better by a mile. She supplied me with endless packs of pens,
paints and paper, cleaned up my ‘creative messes’ and smiled through hours of dance shows. Her love for helping people is what
has inspired me most, she wouldn’t hesitate for a moment if you asked her to correct an English essay, give advice on
drawing or to just be there. Her soft caring nature is what draws people to her, she sees the good in everything and
everyone. While most people of her generation are judgmental of the
teenagers of today, she has never once doubted the choices me, my sister and my
cousins have made, if anything she has supported us, through uni drop-outs, young
marriages, questionable boyfriend choices…she tells us that it’s important to
embrace the difference in people, the world would be a boring place if we were
all the same.
