Schulz Receives AARP Oklahoma2012 L egislative L eadership Award

AARP Oklahoma recent-ly recognized Senator MikeSchulz with an award for hisefforts on behalf of older Okla-homans during the 2012 Legis-lative Session.

AARP Oklahoma presentedSchulz with the 2012 Legisla-tive Leadership Award in theSenator's Oklahoma City of-fice following the group's an-nua legislative breakfast at theCapitol.AARP officials selectedSchulz for the award for hiswork on numerous bills thatwere crucial to the health, safety and welbeng of Okla-homa seniors during the 2012session.

Schulz has long been a sup-porter of increased protectionsfor Oklahomas most fral andvulnerable citizens. Last year,as Maority Floor Leader, hewas instrumental in bring-ing severa, crucia long-term

care bills supported byAARP Oklahoma to asuccessful vote in theSenate. One of these mea-sures, House Bill 2582,was heard in the wan-ing hours of sessionand would not havereceved a final votewere it not for SenatorSchulz's efforts to se-cure final passage. That measure, ul-timately signed intolaw by Gov. MaryFallin, requires thatfuture long-termcareemployees undergo anationwide, fingerprint-

based background check be-fore beng granted direct ac-cess to residents of Oklahomalong-term care facilities.

"Senator Schulz understandsthe needs of Oklahoma se-nors, and he works hard to en-sure those needs are met," sadAARP Oklahoma State Presi-dent Marjorie Lyons. "We aregrateful for his consistent andbold leadership on the issuesthat matter most to older Okla-homans and ther famlies."Six of Senator Schulz'sconstituents, al of whomaremembers of the AARP Okla-homa Custer County Chapter, were on hand for the awardpresentation.

"It is an honor to be recog-nized by AARP Oklahoma,"said Schulz, R-Altus. "I 'mgrateful for ther efforts on be-haf of the aging population inmy district and the state"
