Residents – Expand your surgical skills for knee and shoulder arthroscopy! Build the hands-on skills necessary to become proficient at knee and shoulder arthroscopy procedures in this brand-new course designed exclusively for orthopaedic residents! Work shoulder-to-shoulder with experienced faculty. Complete diagnostic knee and shoulder arthroscopy procedures during the skills labs, and begin honing your skills for more intricate procedures, including partial meniscectomy, meniscus repair, subacromial decompression, and labral repair surgery. From beginning to end, this intensive course challenges you and pushes your skill set as you work toward mastering these procedures, and avoiding potential pitfalls.
Course highlights include:• Each pair of residents will have their own knee and shoulder specimen to work on
throughout the course, providing ample opportunity to practice surgical skills in a focused environment with experienced orthopaedic educators by your side
• Learn by doing! Spend more than half of your time in hands-on labs practicing and perfecting arthroscopic surgical techniques in this unique skills course strictly for orthopaedic residents
Who should take this course? This course is open to orthopaedic residents and post-residency fellows. The course is not open to other AAOS member categories or nonmembers.
This course is designed to give you the knowledge and skills to:• Direct the set up of the operating room for arthroscopic procedures involving the
knee and the shoulder• Create portals in the knee and shoulder for arthroscopic procedures• Develop triangulation skills necessary for arthroscopic procedures• Complete the diagnostic knee and shoulder procedures in the correct sequence• Apply skills gained to undertake partial meniscectomy, meniscus repair, subacromial
decompression and biceps tenotomy procedures• Gain exposure to advanced surgical procedures including ACL reconstruction, rotator
cuff repair and labral repair
How far will your skills advance in this course? Test yourself and find out! Before participating in a surgical skills lab, complete the ‘Performance Checklist’ to evaluate your confidence at each stage of the procedure. Evaluate yourself again after the lab to find out exactly how far you have progressed. This distinctive AAOS CME offering creates the opportunity to reflect upon and pursue your desired performance level. Participation is voluntary and results are confidential.
