Elevance HFS® Solvents Form Stable Water-borne Microemulsions
Dynamic light scattering of an Elevance HFS® microemulsion (0.5 gpt) revealed small uniform solvent droplets with an average particle diameter of 119 nm and a polydispersity index of 0.122 (Figure 1). Small particle sizes can improve reservoir capillary delivery, demulsification and solvency. Figure 1 confirms the water white appearance of a typical Elevance HFS® microemulsion. The Elevance logo on the back of the bottle is clearly visible, consistent with submicron particles of solvent on average dispersed in water.
Application — Cement Spacer and Wellbore Cleanout Spacer
Elevance HFS® Flushes and Cleans Oil-Based Drilling Muds Better.
Elevance HFS® containing mud cleaner removed more oil-based drilling mud better than d-Limonene. Pre-weighed metal foil test strips were submerged in oil-based drilling mud for 5 seconds, then weighed again. The mud coated foil was submerged in 4 ml cleaning fluid (10% vol Elevance HFS® microemulsion in water) while connected to an overhead stirrer for 2 minutes. The microemulsion in this study was prepared by mixing 24% HFS, 60% BIO-SOFT® 91–6, and 16% Dowanol™ DPM. The foil was air dried for 2 minutes, then weighed. The procedure was performed at room temperature.

LEVERAGE THE SUPERIOR CLEANING PERFORMANCE OF ELEVANCE HFS® TO BUILD YOUR BUSINESS.
A microemulsion containing Elevance HFS® 1012 and one containing d-Limonene was designed for a cement spacer application tested for oil-based mud removal. The mud was coated onto a viscometer and was run at different RPMs to compare cleaning performance. The Elevance HFS® 1012 microemulsion cleaned 2X better than the d-Limonene microemulsion at various speeds.
