1.OverviewThis course provides an overview of metabolic engineering, focusing on both experimental techniques andcomputationaltoolsforperformingmetabolicengineering.StudentswilllearnaboutbasicexperimentaltechniquessuchasDNAcloning,PCRandcurrentmethodsforperformingcellularmodi�icationsandwilllearnaboutmetabolicbalanceandmetabolic�luxanalysis.

It is enlightening to note that the coursewill cover the speci�ic topics of relevance includingmetabolic engineering and genomicengineeringusingCRISPR,genomicengineeringusingCRISPR,metabolicpathwaysoverview,materialbalanceanddataconsistency,regulationofmetabolicpathways,controlofenzymelevels,andmethodsformeasuringmetabolic�luxesusingisotopeslabeling,andmetaboliccontrolanalysis.Thecoursecontentswillenrichtheknowledgeoftheparticipantsaboutthelatesttrendsininmetabolicengineering.

IamhappytosharethatCentralUniversityofHaryanaisaforerunnerinorganizingtheprogrammesunderGlobalInitiativeofAcademicNetworks(GIAN)schemeofMinistryofHumanResourceDevelopment.Inlastthreeyears,theUniversityorganized14GIANprogrammestotapthetalentpoolofinternationalacademicians,scientistsandentrepreneurs,andtopromotethecultureofcollaborativelearningthatfacilitatessharingofthebestpracticesandideas.Alltheprogrammeswitnessedhugeparticipationofthestudentsandscholarsfromacrossthecountry,whichspeaksvolumesoftherelevanceofthethemeandqualityofresourcepersonsinvitedfromprestigiousinstitutionsoftheworld.

ProfessorMattheosKoffas,receivedhisB.SdegreeinChemicalEngineeringfromtheNationalTechnicalUniversityinAthens,Greecein1994.HethenjoinedthegraduateprogramoftheDepartmentofChemicalEngineeringatMITwhereheworkedonimprovingaminoacidbiosynthesisfromCorynebacteriumglutamicum.AftercompletinghisPhDin2000,hejoined DuPontıś Central Research and Development as a research scientist where he worked on engineering thecarotenoidbiosynthesisofanobligatemethanotroph. InAugustof2002he joinedthe facultyof theDepartmentofChemical and Biological Engineering at SUNY Buffalo as a tenure-track Assistant Professor and was promoted
