PurposeThis document provides general guidelines and specific requirements for installing and configuring the A4-series Ethernet switches for The MESH control network and the I/A Series® control network. Topics include:

100Base-FX 100 Mb fiber optic Fast Ethernet

1000Base-LX IEEE 802.3z specification for Gigabit Ethernet over two strands of 50/125 or 62.5/125 micron core MMF or 9/125 micron core SMF fiber cable using long wavelength optical transmission.

1000Base-SX IEEE 802.3z specification for Gigabit Ethernet over two strands of 50/125 or 62.5/125 micron core MMF fiber cable using short wavelength optical transmission.

1000Base-T IEEE 802.3ab specification for Gigabit Ethernet using CAT5 copper Ethernet cable.

1000Base-BX IEEE 802.3ab specification for Gigabit Ethernet over a single strand of 9/125 micron core SMF fiber cable. The communication over a single strand of fiber is achieved by separating the transmission wavelength of the two devices - transmitted data and received data are broadcasted and received other separate wavelengths.

1000Base-ZX IEEE 802.3ab specification for Gigabit Ethernet over a single strand of 9/125 micron core SMF fiber cable using 1,550 nm wavelength to achieve distances of at least 70 km (43.5 mi).

ANSI American National Standards Institute

Auto-Negotiation Signalling method allowing each node to select its optimum operational mode (e.g., speed and duplex mode) based on the capabilities of the node to which it is connected.

Backbone Another term for bus - refers to the main link that connects network nodes. The term is often used to describe the main network connections composing the network.

Beacon The packet type and packet on the network upon which the port disabling is enacted.

Bi-directional GBIC (MGBIC)

The Bi-directional Gigabit Interface Converters are deployed as a pair. One of the SFP Mini-GBICs is placed at one end of a single strand of sin-gle mode fiber (terminated with an LC UPC1 connector) and the second at the other end of the same fiber, achieving bi-directional transmission on a single fiber. These Mini-GBICs support the Digital Optical Monitoring (DOM) extensions to the SFP standard.

BPP Beacon Priority Policy - A role/service that allows for the Beacon packet to have the highest priority when propagating though the network. This ensures the Beacon packet will be transmitted back to the PBQ in a flooded switch.

BootP Bootstrap Protocol

Bridge Priority Value

The range of priority values used to determine which device is selected as the Spanning Tree root. This value can range from 0- 65535 for bridge priority mode 802.1d (decrement by 1) or from 0-61440 for bridge priority mode 802.1t (decrement by 4096).

CAT5 Category 5 Twisted Pair Cable - such as 10Base-T, 100Base-TX and 1000Base-T.

CBP (Circuit Breaker Policy) a role/service that disables a port when a Beacon packet is received from an edge switch or from the tier below.

Circuit Breaker A policy rule that will disable a port that receives an incoming packet of an outgoing Beacon packet “Loop”.

Circuit Breaker PBQ/SBQ (CBPBQ/CBSBQ)

This is used to refer to policy rule that will disable an uplink (ISL) port that interfaces two root switches that receives an incoming packet of an outgoing Beacon packet “Loop”. This function is a subset of the Circuit Breaker.

CLI Command Line Interface

Core Switch Refers to the main body of switches that provide the network with its backbone connections. A core switch can also be considered an “edge switch” in reference to the root; however the outer most edge switches within the network are normally not considered to be core switches.

CoS Class of Service is based on the IEEE 802.1D (802.1p) standard specifica-tion, and allows you to define eight priorities (0-7, with 7 granted highest priority). CoS allows you to assign data to higher priority through the device by delaying less critical traffic during periods of congestion. The higher priority traffic through the device is serviced first before lower pri-ority traffic. The Class of Service capability of the device is implemented by a priority queueing mechanism.

Refers to a condition where data traverses a redundant path with no termination point.

Edge Switch Refers to an outer switch in a network topology that is linked to the pri-mary root or backup root bridge switch directly in one to two tier configurations, and indirectly in three to four tier configurations.

ESD Electrostatic Discharge

Fast Ethernet (FE) Set of Ethernet standards that carry traffic at the nominal rate of 100 Mbit per second.

FCS Frame Check Sequence

FTM Frame Transfer Matrix

Full Duplex Transmission method that allows two network devices to transmit and receive concurrently, effectively doubling the bandwidth of that link.

GARP Generic Attribute Registration Protocol

GBIC Gigabit Interface Converter

GVRP GARP VLAN Registration Protocol

1. Introduction

This chapter provides an introduction to the A4-series Ethernet switches and their equipment used in The MESH control network and the I/A Series control network.

NOTEFor details about the concepts, architecture and cabling for The MESH, refer to The MESH Control Network Architecture Guide (B0700AZ).For details about the concepts, architecture and cabling for the I/A Series control network for workstations with I/A Series software, Version 7.x, refer to Control Network User’s Guide (B0400DV).

A4-Series Ethernet SwitchesThe following A4-series Ethernet switches have been tested and qualified by Invensys for use with The MESH and other I/A Series products:

♦ 24-Port Copper managed switch (P0973JM) with two fixed 10/100/1000 copper uplinks (ISL) and optionally, two 1 Gb fiber/copper uplinks (ISL)

♦ 24-Port Fiber managed switch (P0973JN) with two fixed 10/100/1000 copper uplinks (ISL) and optionally, two 1 Gb fiber/copper uplinks (ISL)

♦ 8-Port Copper / 8-Port Fiber managed switch (P0973JP) with two fixed 10/100/1000 copper uplink (ISL) ports and optionally, two 1 Gb fiber/copper uplinks (ISL)

These switches are optimal for use in the:

♦ linear, ring and star topologies for small or medium-sized networks, as discussed in the introduction of The MESH Control Network Architecture Guide (B0700AZ).

♦ star topology described in “Network Topology” in Control Network User’s Guide (B0400DV).

The switch descriptions are followed by information on their visual indicators on the front of each switch, and the uplink (ISL) modules and cabling requirements available for their uplink (ISL) ports.

The 24-Port Copper managed switch (P0973JM) provides twenty-four 100Base-TX ports with RJ-45 connectors, two fixed 10/100/1000 stacking / uplink (ISL) ports and two 1000Base-X uplink (ISL) Gigabit (SFP1) ports. The two 1000Base-X uplink (ISL) Gigabit (SFP) ports can be populated with MGBIC uplink (ISL) connector modules (P0972WT, P0972WU, P0972YQ, P0972YL, P0973JD or P0973FT).

The switch allows high-performance, full-featured layer-2 Ethernet switching in small to medium-sized network applications, as well as high-performance direct end-station connectivity.

NOTEThe reset button located on the front panel of an A4-series device is used to reset administratively set passwords only, pushing the reset button will not cause the unit to reboot. For information on how to do this, refer to the SecureStack A2 Installa-tion Guide shipped with your switch.

The 24-Port Copper managed switch features:

♦ 24-ports of 100Base-TX

♦ Two fixed RJ-45 10/100/1000 stacking ports, configurable as uplink (ISL) ports

♦ Two 1000Base-X uplink Gigabit (SFP) ports

♦ Full duplex operation

♦ Monitoring and configuration tasks via local console port, or any SNMP/RMON based management application.

♦ Port mirroring technology and diagnostics that allows local network traffic to be redi-rected to an external probe for detailed analysis

♦ Compliance with industry standards, including IEEE 802.3u Fast Ethernet and 802.1w Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol (RSTP)

♦ Optional redundant power supply

♦ Shelf, desk, or 19-inch rack mounting.

Redundant Power Supply CapabilityThe A4-series (P0973JM/P0973JN/P0973JP) switches have the capability to support power sup-ply redundancy when connected to an optional external Redundant Power Supply Module (RPSM) (P0973BP). If the internal power supply fails, the RPSM assumes the entire load of the switch without interrupting network traffic. The switch's internal power supply and RPSM each have their own ac power connection, which enables the connection of each power supply to a dif-ferent ac power circuit for additional ac power source redundancy.

The A4-series switches’ additional access plates as shown in Figure 1-4 are non-functional and cannot support redundant internal power supplies. Adding an additional internal power supply disrupts the internal thermal characteristics, and decreases the overall thermal specification (0 to +50°C (32°F to 122°F)) of the switch. This capability cannot be supported on the A4-series switch.

A4-series Ethernet Managed Switch Visual IndicatorsIndicators on the front of the switch indicate: CPU, RPS, and MGR. The CPU indicator, indi-cates the health of the control processor. The RPS indicates the status of the redundant power supply. The MGR indicator, when lit indicates the switch is in Managed mode, when off indi-cates the unit is a member of a stack (See Caution below). Indicators for each port and uplink (ISL) indicate: port enabled and link activity, data collisions and diagnostic failure. Refer to “LANVIEW® Diagnostic LEDs” on page 26 for a full description of these LEDs.

CAUTION!A4-series stacking ports must be configured as uplink (ISL) ports prior to connect-ing them to other switches. If an A4-series switch’s stacking port is connected prior to their configuration the switch will boot-up in a stacking mode, which is not allowed in The MESH control network due to sub-second failover requirements.

The two stacking/uplink (ISL) ports accept a RJ-45 Category 5 copper cable (1000Base-T). Dual ports allow both upstream and downstream switches to be connected using the high speed Giga-bit Ethernet protocol over CAT5 copper cable when configured as an uplink (ISL) port.

The two 1000Base-X uplink (ISL) Gigabit (SFP) ports can be populated with Mini-GBIC mod-ules as shown in Figure 1-6. Dual ports allow both upstream and downstream switches to be con-nected using the high speed Gigabit Ethernet protocol over CAT5 copper cable or Fiber Optic cables utilizing a variety of Mini-GBIC modules for connectivity. Refer to Table 1-1.

The 1000Base-BX Fiber uplink (ISL) Mini-GBIC modules with Simplex LC connectors (P0973JB and P0973JC) are shown in Figure 1-7. 1000Base-BX is a version of Fast Ethernet over a single strand of optical fiber (unlike 1000Base-LX, which uses a pair of fibers). Simplex single-mode fiber is used, along with a special multiplexer (Mini-GBIC) which splits the signal into transmit and receive wavelengths. The two wavelengths used for transmit and receive are either 1310 nm or 1490 nm. The Mini-GBIC modules on each side of the fiber are not the same device, as the one transmitting P0973JC Mini-GBIC module “downstream” (from the core of the net-work to the edge) uses the 1490 nm wavelength, and the “edge” transmitting P0973JB Mini-GBIC module “upstream” uses the 1310 nm wavelength with a distances up to 10 km (6.2 mi).

Redundant Power Supply System Chassis (RPSC) Overview (P0973BM/BN)The Redundant Power Supply Chassis (RPSC) provides a simple and economical solution for providing a backup power source for up to eight Ethernet switch devices. When a Redundant Power Supply Module (RPSM) (P0973BP) is connected to a switch, the RPSM continuously monitors the internal power supply of the switch. If a power interruption is detected, the RPSM is automatically triggered to provide power for the switch, preventing an interruption in network traffic.

The end result is a more reliable network infrastructure, protecting the network from a single source of failure from a network device power supply.

Depending on your system requirements, the RPSC can consist of the following components to support up to eight switch devices:

♦ One RPSC chassis (P0973BM)

♦ Up to eight RPSMs (P0973BP)

♦ Up to eight ac power cords (one cord per RPSM)

♦ Up to eight PSM cables (one per RPSM)

NOTEThe chassis is shipped with one RPSM (P0973BP). Additional RPSMs are ordered separately. Each RPSM is shipped with an interconnecting PSM cable and an ac power cord.

For mounting purposes only, the RPSM (P0973BP) must be used with the RPSC (P0973BM/BN). These chassis do not have ac power connections or electronics.

The RPSM (P0973BP) provides the following:

The P0973BN power supply chassis accommodates 2 RPSs (P0973BP) which can support up to two A4-series and/or C-series switches. The P0973BM power supply chassis accommodates up to eight RPSs (P0973BP) which can support up to eight A4-series and/or C-series switches.

Both units are desktop, shelf, or 19-inch rack mounting.

The specifications for the redundant power supply are provided in Table 1-2:

Media ConverterThe media converter provides a way to connect devices that use 100 Mbit CAT5-STP copper cable (RJ-45 connectors) to a device that uses 100FX multimode fiber optic cable. The media converter allows connection between copper and fiber devices. A media converter allows you to connect a workstation or a controller to an Ethernet switch that is not equipped with fiber optic ports, while gaining the benefits of extended range isolated fiber optic transmission.

Refer to Media Converter Installation and Configuration Guide for Control Networks (B0700CP) for all information on the media converter types available for use with these switches.

Ethernet EquipmentTable 1-3 lists the Invensys part number, vendor name and vendor’s internet address for each qualified Ethernet switch and extender.

2. Site Planning

This chapter describes the steps that should be taken and the options that should be considered when planning the inclusion of the A4-series Ethernet managed switches in The MESH control network and I/A Series control network.

The design of each MESH control network or I/A Series control network is different, and depends on the needs and requirements of the individual site. The following paragraphs provide the information necessary to help network designers to plan the control network that meets the needs of their specific site.

Refer to The MESH Control Network Architecture Guide (B0700AZ) or the Control Network User’s Guide (B0400DV) for details about overall site planning.

A4-Series Ethernet Managed Switch Features and Capabilities

The following sections describe the features and capabilities of the A4-series Ethernet managed switches that are offered by Invensys for use in The MESH control network and the I/A Series control network. Use this information to aid in the selection of equipment to implement the net-work design plan.

For installation, you can mount these switches on a flat table, shelf surface, or a grounded 48.3 cm (19 in wide) equipment rack. Install the switch in a dry area with adequate air circula-tion. Avoid placing the switch in direct sunlight or near other heat sources, such as hot-air vents.

NOTEDo not restrict airflow by covering or obstructing air inlets or internal air fan exits on any side of the switch.

24-Port Copper SwitchThe 24-Port Copper switch (P0973JM) (refer to “24-Port Copper Managed Switch (P0973JM)” on page 2) provides twenty-four 10Base-T/100Base-TX RJ-45 ports. The switch automatically selects the operational speed of its RJ-45 ports, and negotiates the connection with the attached device. It has auto MDI/MDI-X selection.

This switch is equipped with two fixed 10/100/1000Base-T stacking / uplink (ISL) ports with RJ-45 connectors and two 1000Base-X uplink (ISL) Gigabit (SFP) ports. The two 1000Base-X uplink (ISL) Gigabit (SFP) ports can be populated with Mini-GBIC uplink (ISL) connector modules (P0972WT, P0972WU, P0972YQ, P0972YL, P0973JD, or P0973FT). Refer to Table 1-1 on page 8 for details on the connector modules.

The two 1000Base-X uplink (ISL) Gigabit (SFP) ports can be populated with Mini-GBIC uplink (ISL) connector modules (P0972WT, P0972WU, P0972YQ, P0972YL, P0973JD, or P0973FT). Refer to Table 1-1 on page 8 for details on the connector modules.

8-Port Copper / 8-Port Fiber SwitchThe 8-Port Copper / 8-Port Fiber switch (P0973JP) (refer to “8-Port Copper / 8-Port Fiber Man-aged Switch (P0973JP)” on page 4) provides eight 10Base-T/100Base-TX RJ-45 ports and eight 100Base-FX ports with MT-RJ connectors. The switch uses 100 Mbit speed and negotiates the link connection with the attached device.

This switch is equipped with two fixed 10/100/1000Base-T stacking / uplink (ISL) ports with RJ-45 connectors and two 1000Base-X uplink (ISL) Gigabit (SFP) ports. The two 1000Base-X uplink (ISL) Gigabit (SFP) ports can be populated with Mini-GBIC uplink (ISL) connector modules (P0972WT, P0972WU, P0972YQ, P0972YL, P0973JD, or P0973FT). Refer to Table 1-1 on page 8 for details on the connector modules.

Site Installation Guidelines

A4-Series Switch GuidelinesThe following guidelines must be observed when a site is selected for the A4-series (P0973JM/P0973JN/P0973JP) switches. If the guidelines are not followed, unsatisfactory net-work performance may result.

♦ To ensure proper ventilation and prevent overheating, leave a minimum clearance space of 5.1 cm (2.0 in) at the left, right, and rear of the switch. Do not connect the switch to the ac power source until instructed to do so later in the installation process.

♦ Ambient temperature at the installation site must be maintained between 0° and 50°C (32° to 122°F). Temperature changes must be maintained within 10°C (18°F) per hour.

Redundant Power Supply Chassis (RPSC) Guidelines (P0973BM/BN)The following guidelines must be observed when a site is selected for the Redundant Power Sup-ply Chassis (P0973BM/BN). If the guidelines are not followed, unsatisfactory network perfor-mance may result.

The installation site must be within reach of the network cabling and meet the requirements listed below:

♦ Chassis placement close enough to connect the 2 m (6.6 ft) PSM cables from the RPSMs to the ac power source.

♦ Up to eight three-pronged power receptacles capable of delivering the current and voltage specified below. Up to eight ac outlets on independently fused circuits must be within 1.82 m (6 ft) from the installation site. If there is an ac power source failure, this will prevent the powering down of RPSMs due to a single source power failure.

3. Installation

This chapter describes the steps necessary to install the A4-series Ethernet managed switches as part of The MESH control network and the I/A Series control network.

Installation of the Ethernet switches in their appropriate control network consists of locating the individual components and then making connections between them using fiber optic or copper cable.

Installing A4-Series Ethernet Managed SwitchesThe A4-series Ethernet switches are designed to be placed on a flat, level surface. Alternatively, the switches may be mounted in a rack using the supplied mounting brackets. Make sure that the environment in which the switch is located meets the switch’s environmental operating specifica-tions, especially heat and humidity. Refer to the documentation included with the switch for detailed installation instructions and operating specifications.

Installing Optional Mini-GBIC ModulesOptional Mini-GBIC modules are available for all three of the A4-series Ethernet managed switches. They should be installed before the switch is connected to its appropriate control net-work.

Refer to the documentation included with the uplink (ISL) modules and the switch for instruc-tions on installing the modules.

CAUTION!If a Mini-GBIC module is to be added or removed from the switch hardware con-figuration, a complete software reconfiguration of the switch is necessary after it is installed or removed.

Installing Optional Redundant Power SuppliesOptional redundant power supplies are available for all three of the A4-series Ethernet managed switches. Redundant power supplies should be installed before the switch is connected to its appropriate control network.

Refer to the documentation included with the switch for instructions on installing redundant power supplies.

Configuring the SwitchesAll managed switches require configuration before they are added to their appropriate control network. The dual stacking ports must be reconfigured as uplink (ISL) ports for the first-time installation or re-initialization of a switch.

LANVIEW® Diagnostic LEDsLANVIEW® diagnostic LEDs serve as an important troubleshooting aid by providing an easy way to observe the status of individual ports and overall network operations.

Using LANVIEWThese switches support the switch’s built-in LANVIEW LED visual diagnostic and status moni-toring system. The LANVIEW LEDs on the A4-series switches are located in similar locations as shown in Figure 3-1. These LEDs allow you to quickly observe network status for diagnosing switch and network problems, as described in Table 3-1.

4. Switch Configuration

This chapter describes the steps necessary to configure the A4-series Ethernet managed switches as part of The MESH control network and the I/A Series control network.

Configuring Ethernet SwitchesThere are two methods available to configure A4-series Ethernet managed switches:

♦ The MESH Network Switch Configurator Application Software, and

♦ Command Line Interface (CLI).

The MESH Network Switch Configurator Application Software (SCAS)The MESH Network Switch Configurator Application Software (SCAS) for the I/A Series system control network was created for Invensys customers as a configuration tool for qualified Ethernet switches. It reduces the repetitive Command Line Interface (CLI) command entries which are required to configure The MESH control network switches, by allowing users to customize con-figuration files that define a set of CLI commands downloadable via the serial port. SCAS is designed and tested for operation with the A4-series Ethernet managed switches and their uplink (ISL) modules.

Refer to The MESH Control Network Operation, and Switch Installation and Configuration Guide (B0700CA) document for information on how to use SCAS.

CAUTION!The A4-series switch should be configured using SCAS, revision 3.4.1 or greater. This revision can be found at the Global Customer Support Center web site, listed below.

Command Line Interface (CLI) EntriesThis section provides instructions and specific CLI entries that must be typed and entered into the switches for proper operation in their appropriate control network.

Logging InBy default, the A4-series switch is configured with three user login accounts:

♦ ro for Read-Only access

♦ rw for Read-Write access

♦ admin for superuser access to all modifiable parameters.

The default password is set to a blank string. For information on changing these default settings, refer to The MESH Control Network Operation, and Switch Installation and Configuration Guide (B0700CA, Rev. H or later) document, in the section “Changing Switch Password and Settings.”

Configuration RequirementsAll managed switches require configuration before they are added to their appropriate control network.

CAUTION!Switches should be configured off line before they are connected to The MESH control network.The A4-series Ethernet managed switches have their two fixed RJ-45 stack-ing/uplink (ISL) ports configured in stacking mode when shipped. You must con-figure them in uplink (ISL) mode before connecting any uplink cables to them.

Configuration of managed switches is accomplished by connecting a terminal (or a computer run-ning terminal emulation software) to the serial console port on the switch and using the switch’s resident management software to set the parameters. Refer to “Connecting Ethernet Switch to the PC” on page 33. For customized switch configurations, refer to the documentation included with the switch for command line entry instructions on configuring a specific switch model.

To avoid the possibility of address conflicts, IP addresses for managed switches are automatically assigned by the system configurator (SysDef or IACC). Once the configurator has selected the IP addresses, each switch must be configured with its IP address (refer to “The MESH Control Net-work Addresses” in The MESH Control Network Architecture Guide (B0700AZ), or the Note on selecting an IP address on page 45 for an I/A Series control network, as appropriate).

For information on using the system configurator, refer to:

♦ I/A Series System Definition: A Step-by-Step Procedure (B0193WQ) or

♦ I/A Series Configuration Component (IACC) User’s Guide (B0400BP).

While using SysDef, record the address of the station monitoring the switch. There is a switch parameter named TRAP under the SNMP Configuration menu that you should set based on this IP address.

CAUTION!Do not mirror active ports to other used ports. Doing so results in an excessive increase in the traffic levels routed by the switches.

NOTEWhen adding a switch or blade to the network, clear the NVRAM, or return the switch to the Factory Default Configuration to obtain default settings before con-figuring the switch.

NOTEUplink (ISL) ports should be installed and configured first. Otherwise, configured information may be lost when the uplink ports are installed.

This chapter provides generic configuration information that applies to all Ethernet switches and specific procedures for the switches that have been tested and qualified by Invensys for use with I/A Series systems. The configuration information is presented as follows:

Connecting Ethernet Switch to the PCThe Network Administrator computer (laptop recommended) needs to be connected to the switch’s CLI port (for example, serial port) through the computer’s COM port using cable P0973EY.

Figure 4-2 shows the connection from a PC to the Ethernet switches.

The A4-series switches use P0973EY, a 9-pin D connector on their CLI port to connect to the9-pin D connector on the PC (see Table 4-1).

Edge SwitchesAn edge switch is a switch which will not be configured as a root or backup bridge. The edge switch usually interfaces I/A Series system devices (Control Processors, FCMs, and so forth) to the root switches. Multiple root switches can be configured to take over as roots by adjusting the Bridge Priority Value. However, normally only two roots exist, primary and backup root switch, all other switches are defined as edge switches.

Auto-negotiation mode with no flow control, Fiber ports

For fiber ports, set to 100 Base Full Duplex mode with no flow control.

Flow control Disable full and half-duplex flow control (IEEE 802.3x) on all the switch ports

Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol (RSTP)

Resetting PasswordThe switch’s Command Line Interface (CLI) locks out after three incorrect password attempts and remains locked out for 15 minutes. The Reset Password switch remains non-functional for those 15 minutes.

NOTEPower must be applied to the unit before the 15 minute lockout can expire.

If you forget the switch’s login password, use the Reset Password switch as described in the fol-lowing procedure.

To reset the A4-series switch password, refer to Figure 4-3 and proceed as follows:

1. Press and hold the Reset Password switch while the switch is operational. This change of the login password to the default password will be indicated via CLI only.

2. Login to the device management (see “Logging In” on page 32). Now, you can login to the switch via the console port and assign a new password. For information on changing the password settings, refer to The MESH Control Network Operation, and Switch Installation and Configuration Guide (B0700CA, Rev. H or later) document, in the section “Changing Switch Password and Settings.”

Appendix B. Configuring A4-Series Switches for I/A Series Software Version 7.x

This appendix discusses the manner for configuring A4-series switches for use in an I/A Series control network connected to workstations running I/A Series software, Version 7.x.

For more information on the I/A Series control network, refer to Control Network User’s Guide (B0400DV).

The A4-series switches (P0973JM, P0973JN, P0973JP) must be booted with a supported version of I/A Series qualified and compatible firmware. (Refer to the Appendix “Qualified Switch Firm-ware Compatibilities Matrix” in The MESH Control Network Operation, and Switch Installation and Configuration Guide (B0700CA) for supported versions.)

To configure these switches, it is recommended that you refer to The MESH Control Network Operation, and Switch Installation and Configuration Guide (B0700CA) and use the latest Switch Configurator Application Software to configure this switch.

Software Configuration for I/A Series Software Version 7.x

To configure A4-series switches (P0973JN, P0973JM, and P0973JP) for use with workstations running I/A Series software, Version 7.x, proceed as follows:

1. Connect the workstation to the switch.

a. Connect the console cable to the serial port on a workstation (COM1 or COM2).

b. Connect the other end of the cable to the COM port on the switch.

c. On an XP/NT/2000 workstation: click Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> Communications -> HyperTerminal.

d. In the name box, type: INVENSYS SWITCHES. Click OK.

e. Select the appropriate serial port to which the switch is connected (COM1 or COM2).

f. The COM1/COM2 properties dialog opens, the settings should be:

♦ Bits Per Second: 9600

♦ Data Bits: 8

♦ Parity: None

♦ Stop Bits: 1

g. Click OK.

NOTEWhen using HyperTerminal® software with the Microsoft Windows 2000® oper-ating system, ensure that you have Windows 2000 Service Pack 2 or later installed. Windows 2000 Service Pack 2 fixes the problem of arrow keys not functioning in HyperTerminal's VT100 emulation. See www.microsoft.com for information on Windows 2000 service packs.

2. Log-in to the switch with a default user account.

a. When asked for your user name, type: admin. Press <Enter>.

b. When asked for your password, press <Enter>.

3. To provide better security to the switch, change the password and login functions:

NOTEThe password must be at least 8 characters long. In the following steps, ******** is the user defined password for this switch. Passwords are not displayed on the con-sole screen.

♦ A4 (su)-> set password admin

♦ Please enter new password: ********

♦ Please re-enter new password: ********♦ Password changed.

♦ A4 (su)-> set system login ro read-only disable

♦ A4 (su)-> set system login rw read-write disable

4. To clear the switch configuration:

NOTEThe following command should be performed before configuring the switch to ensure the switch is in a known state. This command resets the switch.

♦ A4 (su)-> clear config

5. At this point, the stacking ports must be configured as uplink (ISL) ports.

NOTEThe following command resets the switch.

♦ A4 (su)-> set switch stack-port ethernet

♦ A4 (su)-> Y

NOTEWhen an A4-series switch has the front panel uplink (ISL) ports configured in Ethernet mode, clear config will not change the uplink (ISL) ports to stacking mode. The clear config all command will set the uplink (ISL) ports to stacking mode.

6. Once the switch has booted, set up the IP address of the switch. Enter the IP address (151.128.79.nnn) that was assigned to the switch defined by the SysDef or IACC during the I/A Series system configuration.

NOTEWhen selecting the IP address, in order to avoid the possibility of address conflicts, IP addresses for managed switches should be assigned sequentially beginning with address 151.128.79.1 and continuing through 151.128.79.192.For example, the first configured switch should be assigned an address of 151.128.79.1, the second configured switch should be 151.128.79.2, and so forth. In the event that more than 192 addresses are needed, the block of addresses from 151.128.80.1 through 151.128.80.192 can be used for additional switches.

♦ A4 (su)-> set ip address 151.128.79.nnn mask 255.255.0.0

7. Set the switch’s ID. The name you assigned to the switch (for example, letterbug) dur-ing system configuration should be assigned to the switch (for example, SW0001).

♦ A4 (su)-> set system name “SW0001”

♦ A4 (su)-> set system location “Bldg N32-049”

♦ A4 (su)-> set system contact “Joe Smith ext. 555”

NOTEIf an uplink (ISL) GBIC port is added or removed from the switch hardware config-uration, the following steps (8-13) must be entered to ensure proper operation.

8. Set up port configuration, as follows.

For fiber and copper switches (P0973JN, P0973JM, and P0973JP):♦ A4 (su)-> set flowcontrol disable

♦ A4 (su)-> set port lacp port *.*.* disable

♦ A4 (su)-> set port negotiation ge.1.* enable

♦ A4 (su)-> set mac agetime 65000

In addition, for the copper switch (P0973JM):♦ A4 (su)-> set port negotiation fe.1.* disable

♦ A4 (su)-> set port duplex fe.*.* full

♦ A4 (su)-> set port speed fe.1.* 100

In addition, for the copper switch (P0973JP):♦ A4 (su)-> set port negotiation

♦ A4 (su)-> set spantree adminedge ge.1.* false

If the Fast Ethernet port is to be used as an uplink (ISL) port, disable the port admin-edge.

♦ A4 (su)-> set spantree adminedge fe.1.# false

# denotes the port to be used as an uplink (ISL) port.

Example 1:The following example disables adminedge on ports 1 through 4.

♦ A4 (su)-> set spantree adminedge fe.1.1-4 false

Example 2:The following example disables adminedge on ports 2 and 4.

10. Configure security for the switch.♦ A4 (su)-> set gvrp disable

CAUTION!Leaving unused Ethernet ports enabled is a high security risk. It is recommended that all unused Ethernet and uplink (ISL) ports be disabled.
