The Haywood County Rescue Squad was called in to rescue a 44-year-old man who fell into a river off of Highway 54 North.

James Pool, 44, was walking on the side of the South Fork Forked Deer River when he fell into the deep bank of the river.

Pool wasn’t too deep into the river, or that far away from land, but a dislocated hip kept the 44-year-old unable to move.

Pool’s father said, that authorities were called after someone passing by the river heard Pool’s pleas for

help.Pool had been

trapped in the bank for approximately two and a half hours before authorities were called in to help.

The Haywood County Rescue Squad obtained Pool by traveling on the river with a boat.

Pool was lifted off the bank, placed in an ambulance, and taken to Haywood Park Community Hospital.

A u t h o r i t i e s stated that Pool had received hip surgery approximately four or five months ago.

The Haywood County Rescue Squad work to lift James Pool into their boat while rescuing him.
