Music Video analysis-Bruno Mars, Just the way you are

Bruno Mars is one of the latest and most successful pop artist. His debut single Just The Way you are stunned the United Kingdom, with his powerful lyrics and brilliant music video and musical ability.

The song is simple and extremely straight forward to listen to. It is a beautiful pop song that can easily attract vast amounts of numbers of listeners. Bruno’s lyrics express his feelings and physical feature of his beloved. This gives out positive image and feeling to the song.

“She’s so beautiful and I tell her everyday”.

The song gives the impression that he is rejoicing in his own right and manner. It also portrays his style, genre and his interpretation to music. His song gives us an idea that he is singing from previous experience and has proper heart feelings. The two characters are seen as two star crossed lovers. Who cannot take their eyes of each other, especially Bruno Mars himself. The music video shows an unravelling tape string, this is a method of connecting himself to music and expressing his feelings towards his beloved. However the tape string also helps the video in a very descriptive manner and as a useful visual aid. It also works as a visually a way of connecting to music and thus emphasising the lyrics. Throughout the video we get to see the unravelling tape turn into useful props that are used in the video.

The mise en scene of this video is set in a loft/ apartment , where his girlfriend is listening to an old fashioned tape player, of Bruno Mars’ song which gives the viewer a sense of irony towards the song and informs the viewers that we are about to watch his video unravel. ‘Just the way you are’ already gives us an insight that a man that is hopelessly in love. This can easily inspire a teenage audience to take not of what Bruno Mars is putting across to the audience. The music video is very relaxed and very easy to watch and it can attract a very large target audience.

Music Video analysis-Enrique Iglesias, Heartbeat

Enrique Iglesias's video represents the Typical Boy meets Girl music video; however it is portrayed with a sense of distance and awareness. The video shows the desires that can not be fulfilled. The fatal attraction between each of the character is expressed in a very sensual manner, we know this thanks to the main chorus of the song ‘I can feel your heartbeat’ . The mise en scene of this video is very sombre. The opening scene is a shot of Enrique in a sombre and sinister scene but having the use of a torch/flame beaming off his heart and also continuously pulsing, giving the impression of a heartbeat along with the beat of the music. This links in nicely to the name of the song. ‘HEARTBEAT’

We also see Nicole’s has also got a (the female artist that Enrique is singing with) torch like beam, however we see it from her back, this is the very first shot of her in the music video. The female artist is represented as being just as venerable as Enrique.

The second scene is set in a mirror looking both. This could means that it could represent looking back on yourself, looking at something or someone from a different perspective or reflecting on memories of their first encounter.

The tensions between both singers almost seem crossed wired, like they have the wrong impression about each other. As they both think that they are taken by other people, but they aren’t.

We sympathise Enrique as he is broken hearted. As he is sincerely expresses his feelings in his lyrics.‘Stop stealing my heart away’

The loneliness of each other in the video makes the viewer wonder whether they will come together in the sombre scenes.

Music Video analysis-The Wanted- All time low

The Wanted ‘s debut sing All Time Low starts by giving off an impression that they are a new, young, good looking boy band. This automatically attracts the attention o many potential new fans. The music video is set in a destroyed warehouse, with a huge amounts of bricks and mortar . This location might have been chosen in order to portray there newness and lack of experience in the music industry, thus showing lack of experience.

Each of the 5 characters appears individually out of a thick cloud of dust and round a corners.Immediately The Wanted come across as a new young male group as this is their first released single. All 5 band members are dressed similarly (roughed and grey-ishcolour scheme), which expresses the main theme of the video but also represents them as a group. The video already create a form of curiosity to viewers as it makes question there identity. The Wanted are all the same age range. Ranging from 19-22 years old. This is the right age group that would attract a large female target audience.

Gradually all the 5 band members come together as a group and perform the main chorus together.

The video’s colour scheme is set alive by flares ands continuous red explosions. This new colour scheme dramatically outshines the grey and sombre look of the abandoned and run down warehouse.

CD Cover Analysis-Ke$ha

Artist’s name. Also Showing her own trademark $.

Album cover has given itself a rouged appeal

Could harshness of her cdfront cover be a clue to what her music is like, or could it be the complete opposite?

Could this be portraying her personality as well as her music taste.

Faded colour scheme as a background makes Ke$ha’s face and especially her choice of lipstick colour stands out dramatically. This could link in nicely with Ke$ha’s musical influence. Debut album name

Glittery themed, which makes the CD seem very appealing to a young target audience.

Matching gold lipstick links in with the artist’s name as they are both in gold.

We immediately know that this is the artist on the front cover of the CD Artist is on the front cover

Her appearance reflects her personality.

Directly looking into the camera, addressing the audience

Already gives an insight to what the music genre is

CD Cover Analysis-50 CENT

His hands on his head can portray different kinds of emotions, such as: distress, anger or worry. These emotions could hopefully be portrayed through his song tracks

His tattoo indicates his respect and dedication towards his ‘crew’ G-UNIT. This might be who he belongs to.

Rough and damaged skin, shows a damaged and tormented past, this links back to his emotions shown on the front cover shot.

This portrays his genre of music (hip hop/ rap) Album name in a bold clear font

Crown indicates that he is ‘king’

Topless indicates that he has been stripped bear.

His identity and also indicates his genre of music and shows typical ‘bling’.

Black and white indicates his link to his race and mood/ feelings.

Direct eye contact, eyes also portraying fear/anger.

The artist is on the front cover

CD Cover Analysis-Mumford and Son

Mumford & Son are being portrayed as a new band by being in a shop window.

This gives us the idea that they are a new music group. But this idea is portrayed through a shop window, such as displaying new collections to the general public.

The forms and conventions shown are abnormal

Band name and album name laid along the pavement. The album name is perfectly centred on the pavement of the shop window , which centres the album cover nicely

The colour of the building gives it a fresh new look, which gives off the idea that they are a new and fresh music group.

We are left wondering why the white façade building does not have a shop name

All band members are featured on the front cover of there debut album

Each band member has an instrument, which immediately shows the potential buyer what kind of music they play

They give off a nice fresh and ‘what you see is what you get’ impression

The shops on this street gives us the impression that it isn't a typical high street . It gives more of an antique feel or even a vintage shop.

OUR THEME AND INTERPRITATION

Song – ‘Take it off’ by Ke$ha

From the use of annotating the song lyrics, we came up with a theme that we shall incorporate into our music video .

“Being young, yourself despite what you wear or who you are.”

Page 11: A2 Media, Pre-Production, Bella Le Blanc

Pre- Production- analysing lyrics

When the dark

Of the night comes around.

That's the time,

That the animal comes

alive.

Looking for

Something wild.

And now we lookin' like

pimps

In my gold Trans-Am.

Got a water bottle full of

whiskey

In my handbag.

Got my drunk text on

I'll regret it in the mornin'

But tonight

I don't give a

I don't give a

I don't give a

Refrain :There's a place

downtown,

Where the freaks all come

around.

It's a hole in the wall.

It's a dirty free for all.

And they turn me on.

When they Take It Off.

When they Take It Off.

Everybody Take It Off.

There's a place I know

If you're looking for a show.

Where they go hardcore

And there's glitter on the

floor.

And they turn me on.

When they Take It Off.

When they Take It Off.

Everybody Take It Off.

Lose your mind.

Lose it now.

Lose your clothes

In the crowd.

We're delirious.

Tear it down

'Til the sun comes back around.

N-now we're getting so smashed.

Knocking over trash cans.

Eurbody breakin' bottles

It's a filthy hot mess.

Gonna get faded

I'm not the designated

Driver so

I don't give a

I don't give a

I don't give a

There's a place downtown,

Where the freaks all come

around.

It's a hole in the wall.

It's a dirty free for all.

And they turn me on.

When they Take It Off.

When they Take It Off.

Everybody Take It Off.

Where they go hardcore

And there's glitter on the floor.

And they turn me on.

When they Take It Off.

Oh, Oh, Oh!

The characters are

being represented

as animals. Due to it

being at night they

could be portrayed

as ‘werewolves’

The whiskey is

representing a

typical ‘rave’ of

which teenagers

would drink spirits

at.

‘Take it off’ is being

expressed on how

the characters

should take off their

cover of who they

think they are and

become themselves

and be proud of it.

Glitter on the floor

indicates the rave

through the use of

colour and fun.

‘Hardcore’

Loose your clothes

refers back to the

chorus of ‘take it off’

Delirious could be

conveying the

atmosphere of a

hardcore rave.

Take it off is always

emphasised in the

song and reminds the

viewers of the hidden

but a strong meaning

in the song.

This drawing which was created by Gracie Miller is a

long , opening shot, it is clearly showing the mise en

scene of the video. The sunset is indicating the arrival

of the night and there is long grass which characters

are walking and crawling out of, this is representing the

wildness in the video.

2.

This shot which was created by Bella Le Blanc, is

conveying the speed in which the night-time comes

around. It is also a long shot which is showing the

opening where Ke$ha will be zoomed in on in the

next shot. The three characters are beginning to

come alive followed by many more characters later

on.

3.This third shot was created by Bella Le Blanc and it is

a medium/long shot. It clearly identifies the main artist

this being Ke$ha, she is portrayed to be a very pretty

and blonde girl, whilst all around her are other

characters hiding beneath the shrubbery ready to

dance. There is a mixture of girls and boys in this shot

and the by this time the ‘rave’ is beginning to really

come alive.

This image was designed by Gracie

Miller, it involves a close up of Ke$ha’s

face, she is lip sinking to the chorus

‘Take it off’ as you can see in the

bubble. The background is

representing the ‘dark of the night’.

This image created by Bella Le Blanc is a follow through

from the previous image. The refrain in the song repeats

‘Take It off’ so therefore we are going to alter the shot

from a close up to a long shot each time these words are

sung. This should hopefully look effective from the

audiences perspective due to the varied shot types and

how they are presented.

5.

In this image created by Gracie Miller it is

showing the last verse being lip sung in the

refrain. This is a long shot of the main

character and differs from the other 2 previous

shots.

the end of a hectic night, some of them are passed out

through alcohol and others are just relaxing.

11.

This is a low angle shot designed by Bella Le

Blanc showing some alcohol which would have

been drunk at the party. It is clear that this is a

vital part of the party through drink being a

typical convention at a teenage party.

This image designed by Gracie miller is

explaining how the characters have

vanished to create suspense for the

audience. This long shot is showing the

mise-en scene on the shot.

Page 19: A2 Media, Pre-Production, Bella Le Blanc

Pre-Production: Music Video Treatment

Music Video TreatmentBella Le BlancSong: ‘Take it off’Artist: Ke$ha

ConceptThe artist we are working with is Ke$ha. Ke$ha is known as one of new young pop singer, rapper and songwriter, and only just being at the age of 18 years old, Ke$ha has stormed the pop industry with her individuality and interpretation of music. Ke$ha was signed to Dr. Luke’s record label and publishing company. As a result to this we have chosen to produce a music video, a cover fir its release and a magazine advertisement; this will be promoting the artist and a interest people to watch the video of ‘Take it Off’.

Narrative and Performance Style The story of the song depicts Kesha’s method of portraying music through her individuality. The 18-year-old shows throughout her music video that she wants to be independent, free spirited and just wants to ‘live life to the full’. We can see this being conveyed by what Kesha is wearing (hot pants and has styled wild hair). The debut album name is called ‘ANIMAL’. Therefore in the video and song lyrics she represents her characters as animals and behaves like animals. The video nicely links in with the lyrics of the song , which helps the viewer get a good and genuine perspective of Kesha and her music. The use of camera shots throughout the video it seem more of performance style, instead of a narrative. The camera shot that is mostly used is a ‘hand-held’ shot. It makes the viewer of the video seem that they can really see what is happening in the video and give them the impression that they are in the video as well. We get no sense of a plot in the music video, more like a rave. The rave that we encounter is a typical teenage/dance/wild. There is a vast amount of scene cutting, which makes the video seem quick, upbeat and exciting. We see this scene cutting during the beginning of the video where we get different quick snapshots of the surroundings, of a round-down motel in the middle of the dessert. We also see the use of scene cutting again when it is night-time and there is a burst of powder paint, which everyone gets covered in and goes wild. Overall the perspective of this performance is mainly shown by the use of camera shots, especially close up’s of Kesha singing her lyrics. But there is a narrative being shown in the video, it shows what a rave consists of and what the possible impact become. •The beginning of the video shows quick snap shots of the music videos location, which is a run down motel, situated somewhere hot and in the dessert •The begging and the tempo of the sing start to increase and this is where we know that the rave is about to take place •Kesha gets off her motorbike (wearing her typical rave outfit) then as the tempo keeps increasing a number of teenagers are following her, giving the impression that she is the leader of the pack of ‘animals’. •The characters begin to dance later on in the video, and there are starting to act wild like animals. •The massive colour explosion, and we can see the characters reaction show their fascination, like they have never seen something like this before.•The song ends when with a close up of Kesha’s face looking pleased of what she has done throughout the music video.

Page 20: A2 Media, Pre-Production, Bella Le Blanc

Pre-Production: Music Video Treatment

LocationThe main idea and focus of this music video is to hopefully covey a typical teenage rave. This also emphasizes where the filming would take place. We hope to find a excellent location that we will use to indicate and portray a typical rave scene. Taking all of these ideas into consideration, Gracie Miller and I have decided to film it in my back garden. This is because the garden has tall grass and a large amount of space that can be used the film. The back garden also contains wildlife, trees and bushes. These aspects can be used as props in the video as the will greatly benefit the scenery and the potential quality of the filming. We have both agreed on this location as we strongly feel that it will deliver a good performance. It will also be a excellent location as it will capture the essence of a typical teenage rave. Colour ToneThe colour scheme of the video will be bright and vibrant. For this reason is that it will help to express the colour explosion, the clothing that will be worn and the neon face paint. The majority of the filming will be done at night time, where it will be dark, so the use of lighting will be highly necessary for the camera.Despite the fact of the video being filmed at nighttimes, we are using bright colour tones near the ending of the video. We are hopping to use powder paint and glitter and the end. This idea of the powder paint coincidently ties in also with the ending of Ke$ha music video. Hopefully the powder paint will be on the characters bodies and faces in order for them to stand out form the dark background. This will hopefully intrigue the potential viewers. We are hoping to stick with out theme colour and portray it in the advertisement of the CD cover and magazine advertisements, by adding more bright colours. This will hopefully create awareness and develop a trademark for our music video and, make it popular to the general public. The use of colours will help deliver the message across. The Artistic/Style and FormGracie Miller and I came up with a theme and music interpretation for our music video of ‘Take it off’. “being young and yourself despite what you wear or who you are”. We are using this theme by attempting to portray it through our music video. As a result we are not wanting to pursue the typical music conventions of Ke$ha. We would much rather portray ‘our’ Ke$ha to be much more sophisticated, neat and classy. Adjusting her appearance can easily do these key conventions: having much neater hair and for her make up to be well applied. However we would thoroughly like to stick to her conventions of her music video such as, sticking to the same kind of dress sense (costume) which will link it into our rave and the behaviour of animals. The mise en scene will help the music video symbolise its true meaning. It will help Ke$ha to be conveyed the way we intended to, which is a mixed personality, by the hopeful contrast in her clothing against her face. This is conveying the aspect that she is ‘torn between being herself’. example- her face and her clothes , short skirt and low cut tops. We will hopefully endorsing some of the modern conventions for a POP genre music video. Such as:•Colour shots of the powder paint•Aesthetics- the style will be modern yet to have a unique style and image, as it would be fairly representative of the genre of the behaviour of teenage girls today.•The performance factor of this music video will be the involvement of the characters/people dancing and their being an atmospheric feeling being created in the video through the light and location.•Lip sinking done throughout the main chorus, of take it off.Although these factors are seen to be conventional of an Pop video we will be challenging the ideology that Pop videos typically have through the use of colour, characters and Ke$ha through her being a well educated character, which will surprise viewers. We will attempt to represent happiness and a form of excitement, mainly through the use of colour. However the use of colour will be represented spontaneously, whilst at the beginning of the video there will be a typical lighting used to set the ‘assumed’ tone of the video. Therefore it will also present the party before it has begun.

Page 21: A2 Media, Pre-Production, Bella Le Blanc

Pre-Production: Music Video Treatment

The key looks in regards to our cover release for ‘Take it off ‘ is to have a long shot of Ke$ha. Behind Ke$ha will be a huge billboard like background of a colour explosion which will relate dramatically to the music video. Therefore it will raise awareness for the CD and for the music video. Ke$ha will be leaning against this billboard. Ke$ha clothing will be completely different in contrast to the music video. We hope to dress K in black but making her look sophisticated and pretty. Hopefully the colour burst behind K will make her stand out. Experimenting with different camera shots will be taken into consideration by taking shots of Ke$ha from front, left and right. This will help us analyse which angle would look better. The colour scheme of the colour explosion will always be represented in the different conventions. As it will always help symbolise a teenage rave, through shapes and patterns being created with colours in order to keep the target audience excited. We would also want to a logo of Ke$ha name. In regards to our magazine advertisement we would want a vast amount of characters all dressed in what the characters would want to be portrayed as, but sticking to our animal theme. The animal theme will look realistic through to the use of make up, hairstyle and face paints (e.g. neon face paint) . We want to stick to our original theme of glittery and colour but would want to make this magazine advertisement much more crazy and spontaneous, it is not solely focused on the Artist Ke$ha but rather the party atmosphere. In order to attract a potential target market it would be important to in corporate the right codes and conventions. So giving the advert a 5/5 star rating and quotes from leading music magazine would be essential with release dates and artist name. Making these two conventions very visible and outspoken will help the audience see and hopefully encourage them to purchase the product.

Mise en Scene

Clothing and makeupOur aim from this music video is for the viewers to realise that you don’t have to be someone your not in order to be popular or fake looking. This will hopefully through the artist Ke$ha to be dressed in contrast with all the other characters through us making her clothing black and white and minimal make up. However our main objective is to concentrate on the bright colours. This will be our main feature.Location /LightingThe mise en scene of this video is mainly through the location of the garden. The opening scene will be filmed at dusk and the video will be progressed throughout the night. (Whenever it gets dark) this will create the atmosphere of the video. Camera Shots The camera shots will set the mise en scene to be created and set effectively through the use of long, mid and close ups. The camera shots that we intend to use will set the mise en scene to be created and set effectively through the use of long mid, close ups and tracking shots. They will allow the opening scene to convey the location and the close up’s will portray the Ke$ha face e.g. simplistic hair and makeup/style. All of the above are creating an effective Mise en Scene due to when all of these concepts come together the video will become distinctive meaning and excitement for viewers to receive, in addition to this the camera shots will enable the viewers to really feel engaged in the video but we will also attempt to chance of interaction with the viewer. Technology Throughout the entire filming we are going to be using a camera and a tripod. This will be captured our footage, the camera will enable us to make it highly realistic and existing. Such as: increasing the colour saturation in order to make the video look more realistic. We can use this digital editing tool

Page 22: A2 Media, Pre-Production, Bella Le Blanc

Pre-Production: Music Video Treatment

thanks to the Digital manipulations software the Shiplake College provides for us, such as: Photoshop. Photoshop will be heavily used in this production. Firstly we will be using this Photoshop will help us edit our video to perfection, by cutting out scenes or adding in sections to the video and alternating effects. Such as: for Ke$ha close up of her face we are going to airbrush her skin in order to make it seem flawless and beautiful, we would also be able to adjust sections by cutting them if they are not appropriate. We are also going to incorporate what is above hopefully into our magazine advertisement and CD cover through his use of enhancing the colour and airbrush for certain characters. We will be able to experiment with different tools such as cropping, cut ad paste in order to obtain our desired effect.

Target AudienceOur intended target audience would mainly be aged from 12-18 years old. This means that we are hopping to accumulate many teenagers as our target audience. The reason why we have chosen to target this age group is because we can easily relate to teenagers and we can target them through the song and what the sing focuses its self on. Such as: dance and fun, just like a typical teenage party. We understand that it is a fair age range for our target audience through this being the most likely age in which people are most likely to party and experience what Ke$ha does. However we would mainly want to focus our music video on targeting teenage girls as our main feature of the target market. Through the use of having teenage girls as our intended market, it will help express our theme more clearly.

“Being young and yourself despite what you wear or who you are”Furthermore as a result teenage girls can thus relate well to Kesha’s song. Simply by her habits of being alive, out of control and a party animal who lives for the night. We thought that it wouldn’t be the right if we had attracted a younger or older audience. As, the variation in ages might make it hard to understand the latest forms and conventions.

In the course of this project we created a questionnaire in order to send it to our selected target audience to learn how each teenager is different and therefore we must take into consideration all different possibilities that will hopefully please all ranges as likes and dislikes. Which we hope will prevent the video form being boring and not appealing to many teenagers. We aim to make this video in order to represent sociality through different characters all mixing together which each other and being proud of themselves. Furthermore we will hopefully be incorporating ethnicity into our video through all different nationalities being filmed. We have researched this through studying different pop video’s e.g. ‘This Club Can’t Handle Me’- by Flo Rida and ‘Only Girl (In the World)’ by Rihanna. Both these music videos show a range of different ethnicities. This shows no signs of dominance between ethnicities. Therefore in this music video we hope that it will be portrayed mainly as lower class. The reason why we have decided to portray a lower class is because we want to put the point across that it doesn’t matter what you have or own, it will never affect your way of having a good time. The use of bright and appealing colours will come into good use as it will create a simple and cheap manner of having fun and money well spent. We have finally come up with a target audience thanks the use of completing a questionnaire. The questionnaire was handed out to our peers around the college. This will be an easy manner of finding a different range of teenagers with all different tastes, characters and personalities. From the questionnaire we will then find out what the preferred location would be in a garden situated area. We hope that they select to be outdoors in order to represent a rave.

Page 23: A2 Media, Pre-Production, Bella Le Blanc

Pre-Production: Music Video Treatment

In our questionnaire we will also ask at what time would you like this video to be filmed to be able to create the most effect, such as at dusk, night time, morning etc.We will also ask questions about how well they feel about incorporating colour into our video. We hope that this will have a very positive outcome. In regards to health and safety we think that it would be appropriate if we incorporate a question that relates to it. Therefore it will be a good idea to ask whether shooting outdoors would be more of a risk instead of shooting indoors. We will obviously appeal to our target audience as much as we can, through various different aspects location becoming one of them. We are hopefully going to be shooting in a large garden/field set in the heart of the Chilterns in Oxfordshire, to film our video through it being a typical place were viewers to be able to see that it a safe area and also a place that will be enjoyable to have a teenage rave. We would also want to make sure that we suit our female target audience as well due to female’s being unlikely to want to have a rave in a location that would be represented as ‘shabby’.

Our chosen theme that we have initially decided to use our music video will also appeal and relate to our target audience. Through the use of colour and dancing being a popular aspect of teenage rave. They then can understand and experience this by happening and therefore can relate to the music video accordingly.

Evidence of Audience ResearchPart of our pre-production process involved us creating a Questionnaire which we would then hand out to our

peers in order to receive some helpful ideas and opinions on our Music Video of Ke$ha.

From this questionnaire we were able to understand exactly what

the viewers wanted in our music video and therefore gather this

information and improve our final product, moreover we can

learn who our target audience are and what genre of music that

they are interested in.

Here is a brief example of some of the responses that we

retrieved from our questionnaire, I have presented these

through a Pie Chart. By using a pie chart it would be easier to

analyse our results.

We felt that these were the three key question's that we asked

and therefore used these to help us with our overall filming for

Ke$ha.

It is clear from the these pie charts that Television is the most

popular way to watch music video’s whilst over 50% of people

said YES to buying a music magazine.

Nearly 90% of people said that Ke$ha should be filmed

outside this therefore making Bella and I swayed much more

towards this rather than having it in an empty house.

Location ShotsOur location that I mentioned in my treatment will still remain in my back garden at my house. As it will capture the scenery very effectively.

These photos are of my back garden at it’s best. As you can see the space and surroundings and the proportion is ideal for creating a teenage rave. The photo on the right and top right (yellow arrows) will be where the majority of the music video will take place .

Location Shots

This open space portrayed in both these pictures is demonstrating where most of the filming will take place, we will be showing a contrast in the day to the dawn through filming it around 4.00 which is the time in which it begins to get dark, this therefore creating an eerie and interesting effect for the viewers.

Diary Of Shooting The Video11.00 - We began our shooting in the morning by taking location shots of where we wanted to shoot. This location consisted of a

field with large frozen over pond and a large tree which looks quite mysterious, we felt that the lighting in these shots was perfect due to it being quite supernatural with the shadows created from the trees. The location is based on a footpath. It was an area of outstanding natural beauty.

12.00 - We continued preparing for our shoot through planning what directions we would give to Kesha and how her lip

sinking would be realistic through us having the words on the camera for her to read whist singing. We also looked into how theshooting would be directed.

2.00 - People began to show up for our shooting although, there were many problems which occurred through this these

including ; us not understanding the camera well and therefore the dark preventing us from filming. Through the lack of commitment from people not showing up for the shooting, meaning that our intended idea of a typical ‘rave’ came to a stand still. Also the

difficulty of keeping the camera sturdy and preventing the camera from shaking during filming.

3.00 – We decided to use some of the clips from today’s filming from our video but are going to finish the ‘rave’ scene and ‘colour

explosion’ in the Tithe Barn at school (Shiplake College) with glow sticks and powder paint.

Page 31: A2 Media, Pre-Production, Bella Le Blanc

Second Shooting Located in the Tithe Barn

As we were not able to film the whole video at the previous locations above, we decided to use our own resources that we could use at our advantage at school. Therefore we used the Thyde Barn to its full potential and created a rave scene that we previously wanted to create but indoors.

Another advantage about using the school Thyde Barn was that we could easily recruit students in all different year groups for the video. In order to recruit people we thought that we would produce a poster. As we thought an email could easily be forgotten about. Therefore creating a visual aid will intrigue them more.

We designed a poster which would advertise our ‘Rave’ and put it around college.

7:30 pm- We planned to film the second attempt of our filming at school. We went to the location where we were going to film and we had the help of one of the upper sixth students to sort out the lighting, so it looks more ‘rave’ like. We are going to use the Art Department( annex) due to it being really messy and colourful. Zara is going to lip sink to the lyrics in this area.

9.00 pm- We filmed the actual ‘rave’ in the Thyde Barn with people dancing we provided them with Glow-Sticks, the lighting was set up to be flashing lights giving it a night club effect.

This filming proved to be a greater success than previously through their being everything in one place and manymore people were available for filming due to their being a high number of boarders.

Here are some images of us recording in action and space in which we used for our filming.

The ‘Rave’ Location

Our filming which took place in the Tithe Barn and School proved to be huge success by the turn out of many people. We used a fellow upper sixth student to help us with the lighting and created a disco effect which could work with the camera.

We prepared very well for this date through emailing teachers asking whether the Tithe Barn was available whilst also designing a poster persuading people to come. We made sure we had written permission before we used the school premises.

We began to film through setting the mood up by playing Ke$ha ‘take it off’ through the speakers in which we brought with us. We then asked everyone to stand in the middle of the room this therefore making the party seem very big when actually is was quite small. Gracie and I shared out this role through us each filming different sections and we both directed the shooting.

We made sure we incorporated Zara Watkinson, who was our featured Kesha, into the video and made her sure she stood out of the crowd whilst we were filming.

We also used many different filming angles including a Low angle shot, close up, zoom, high angle shot and long distance shot which created the mise en scene.

Here are some images of us recording the ‘Rave’ and snap shots of the video.

DIGI-PACKCREATION

Page 35: A2 Media, Pre-Production, Bella Le Blanc

For the Digi-Pack creation Gracie Miller and myself decided to do a 4 frame Digi-pack as Gracie Miller and I both thought it would be a better idea rather than a 6 panel one as we both came up with a design concept that would not look as effective if we were to use a 6 panel Digi-Pack Template. These photos below were taken with a Blackberry 9700 and an Olympus Camera.

Page 36: A2 Media, Pre-Production, Bella Le Blanc

The creating of the Digi-pack was fairly straight forward, as we imported the photos into Microsoft Digital Imaging Suite 2006. We experimented with all the different tools that were on offer and therefore we managed to come up with a colour theme and style.

This is the Finished Design of Kesha’s new album. We decided that we would not want Kesha on the front cover of her album, making it controversial and different. Although we thought that having a t least one photo of Kesha would be a good idea. As we thought it would help our target audience to get an idea of her personality , her appearance and her attitude towards music.

My Magazine AdvertCreating a magazine advert was not very challenging at all, as the main focus is to

relate it to the Digi-pack. It was important sticking to the Digi pack layout as it needs to be recognisable. It is also just as important including all the right codes

and conventions for a magazine advert. The key to a good CD advert is to keep it simple and informative.
