Evaluation Question 4

How did you use new media technologies in the research, planning,

construction and evaluation stages ?

Research • When I began to research for my product (music video), I looked into existing music videos. I

would watch music videos on YouTube to widen my knowledge of the conventions in music videos. I used the google to browse, find information and to also find other websites which gave me information about music videos. Once I decided on the genre which I wanted to use for my music video, I did much more in depth research of music same genre music videos. I did a lot of my research through google, YouTube and Wikipedia where I would research about artists to find out their stereotypes. After gaining more knowledge through research I would present what I had learnt and now know through Prezi's, PowerPoints, mood boards, slide share and some straight onto my blog through it’s learning.

• Also for my research I analysed existing products, I analysed 2 music videos. (Grown Woman by Beyoncé and If I Ain't Got You by Alicia Keys) Which are the same genre and similar to what I was wanting to create for my own music video. I did this using YouTube to watch the music videos and then using Word to present the analysis on PowerPoint. Not only did I analyse 2 music videos I also analysed an existing Digi Pack and magazine advert. I got the images through google images and used a word document to analyse them. All my analysis’ where then uploaded to my it’s learning blog.

• Not only did I use YouTube to find professional existing music videos, I also used it to find music videos which previous media students had made. This was to give me more ideas of what I would do for my own music videos.

• I uploaded all my research onto it’s learning blog in many different formats such as PowerPoint, Slide Share, Prezi and some directly onto my blog.

Planning • I did a lot of planning before creating my 3 products this was because I know it would help

me get the best products I possibly could, if I knew more about other products and I properly planned what I was going to. I planned by doing a storyboard, this helped me when filming and editing because I know what and should go where and when it should, I did the storyboard by hand and then uploaded it as a picture on to my its learning blog. I practiced with the green screen because I was originally going to use it for my final product but decided not to, after taking a picture on the camera in front of the green screen I edited it on iMovie. I did an annotation of the lyrics on the song I was doing for my music video. This helped me come up with ideas and also know what part of the video should go with certain parts of the song. I did this on PowerPoint and uploaded it onto my blog using slide share. I created a production schedule and uploaded it onto my blog as an image. This kept me on track as I knew when I needed to do something, what needed to be done next and when a certain part should be finished. I created a mood board of how I wanted my artist to be portrayed inn my music video, it showed the certain styles and stereotypes I wanted my artist to have. I created this on PowerPoint using images I found on Google, and then uploaded it onto my blog using slide share. We had a production meeting which was also part of the planning. I created my very own ident to use on my 3 products I did this on a PowerPoint word and uploaded it using slide share. I also did sketch layouts of my Digi pack and magazine advert which guided me when creating the real products. Once I had sketched these out I took a photo using my iPhone an d uploaded them onto my blog as an image.

Construction • I used many new media technologies during the construction of my music video. When

filming the footage for my music video I used a DSLR camera, tripod and studio lights. I didn’t use the green screen in my final product, however I did use it during research to practise. When filming the performance part I used a backdrop of a black sheet which gave the music video a professional appearance. After filming all the footage I needed I uploaded it onto the mac and began to edit on iMovie, which is a software I was already familiar because I used it during my AS work. Even though I was familiar which using iMovie it was much more complex editing. After finishing editing I then uploaded the finished video to YouTube and then onto my Blog.

• When creating my magazine poster and Digi pack I used the DSLR camera to take the pictures I would need. I took the photos in the photography studio which gave the images the professional look I was wanting. I then uploaded the photos onto my computer and edited them, I didn’t get the results I wanted from just editing on my HP laptop, so I emailed the photos to myself and edited them on my iPhone using the apps – Photoshop and photo editor. After the pictures looked the way I wanted them too I created my magazine advert on PicMonkey, and my Digi pack on PowerPoint. Once I had finished them I uploaded them to my blog.

Evaluation • Throughout my research, planning, construction an evaluation I think it is fair to say

that I used a lot of new media technologies throughout. I have used a lot of new technologies in many different ways which have all been proven useful in my work.

• The internet (web 2.0) has been super useful because it has easily allowed me to research and browse existing music videos and artists. Also the internet has allowed to access sites such as YouTube, its learning blog and Wikipedia.

• For the first evaluation question I have used Prezi, as I think it is a functional and useful style when presenting my work.

• For my second evaluation product I have just typed the answer straight onto my blog and added images and screenshots of my actual work which shows the combination of my main product and ancillary tasks.

• For my third evaluation question I have created a video using the camera and iMovie of different people watching my music video and giving feedback as they watch it, as well as asking some questions, for my audience feedback.

• For this evaluation question I have used PowerPoint and I also used images I got from Google to show the different technologies I have used.

Conclusion

• I do believe that I have used a variety of new media technologies when researching, planning, constructing and evaluating my three media products. Which have all been proven useful in different ways. The internet has been really useful throughout my research, planning, construction and evaluation because it has allowed me to use many different websites and it has also made it easy for me to quickly upload and add things to my blog.
