A team of engineers sketches out a radical new topology that will yoke together the eight GPUs inside DGX-1, each with 15 billion transistors. The solution: A Supercomputer equivalent to 250 servers in a box. The design will let users throw eight GPUs at deep learning tasks, or split the system into two separate subsystems to tackle more traditional high performance computing work.

“ NVIDIA announced their own branded server, the DGX-1, to enable development of Deep Learning applications based on the new chip …We believe that the broad range of real world applications on display at this event [GTC 2016] could mean that AI, powered by new GPUs and Deep Learning algorithms, is finally about to cross the chasm to broad applicability, 50 years after it made its debut. Some things are worth the wait.”READ MORE

“ This machine [DGX-1] is ready to run with deep-learning software pre-installed and the firsts of these are shipping to AI researchers at MIT, Stanford and UC Berkeley … This can accomplish impressive machine-learning feats, for instance perfect image recognition in self-driving cars. Thus, researchers and data scientists need more powerful chips, which is what NVIDIA is planning to produce.”Nithya PalaniyappanREAD MORE

“ The supercomputer will tackle the most difficult challenges facing the artificial intelligence industry … by reading through Reddit forums. And apparently, Reddit’s size was not a hindrance. In fact, the site’s size is the main reason why the online community was specifically chosen as DGX-1’s training ground.”
