Friday September 15th at MontRoyal for Undergraduate Students,organized by MISA. Friday September 29th for MIMMGraduate Students, Post Docs,Faculty and Associate members,Research Assistants,Technicians andAdministrative team members.To make sure we follow the ongoingtradition, I will be at the grill cookinghot dogs and burgers for all.

We all hope you have had an excellentsummer!

First things first, let’s all extend a warmwelcome to the new students joining ourawesome program at McGill! We’ve got alot in store for you all this year! Make sureyou guys stay up to date on our events viathe Facebook page. Secondly, we need to finalize council forthis year! Council will be conducting

interviews for Ureps on the 12th and 13th

of September, with decisions being sent

out on the 14th.

In June 2017, a team of Microbiology& Immunology (MIMM) studentsattended the annual Small WorldInitiative (SWI) Symposium of theAmerican Society for Microbiology(ASM) Microbe 2017 in NewOrleans, Louisiana. Owen Dunkley(U1), Alicia Jia (U1), Emma Hignett(U2), Jennifer Hitti (U2) and BushraKhan (U3) presented their SWI lab’sresearch progress on antibioticresistance. Notably, Jennifer Hittireceived honorable mention for herposter presentation and EmmaHignett won Best-in-SessionStudent Poster Award. Tzu-Wei (Joy) Tseng, on behalf ofthe Microbial Crafts Team, delivered16 microbial craft packages and 101cross-stitched keychains to theSymposium guests to raiseawareness on antibiotic resistance.SWI awarded Joy the Excellence inLeadership Award in recognition ofher dedicated efforts and ability toinspire others to further SWI’smission. Joy began her involvementwith the Microbial Crafts projectsince “The Do Something AboutAntibiotics Challenge" in November2016 and has also coordinated theNew Orleans trip. The team also acceptedSWI's Joseph P. Caruso Award forExcellence in Mentorship on behalfof Dr. Samantha Gruenheid. SWIwanted to recognize her outstandingpassion for teaching and mentoring

Finally, our first social event will be on

September 15th, with the MIMM BBQ onMont Royal! It’ll be a great time to catchup with each other and enjoy the outdoorsbefore the Montreal winter rolls through!
