A Word from the Interim Youth Pastor... “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him and he will make your paths straight.” (Proverbs 3:5-6) Many mes in our lives, things happen that we don’t understand. I don’t think it would be a stretch to say the last five months have been some of these mes, in not only the life of our naon, state, county, and church, but in our individual lives as well. If you're like me, you are beginning to get red and weary of the “New Normal” we are living in. Proverbs 3:5-6 speaks to three things one should do when faced with life situaons we don’t understand or have control over. First, trust in the Lord. Many mes, this is easily said, but not easily done. What does the word trust mean? According to Merriam-Webster Diconary, trust means assured reliance on the character, ability, strength, or truth of someone or something. God is someone who we can rely on - His character, ability, strength, and truth. We can always be assured of God’s love, compas- sion, sovereignty, holiness, forgiveness, and faithfulness. In an ever-changing world, God remains the same. We can be assured of God’s ability to get us through the parts of life for which we have no control. We know God has the strength to hold us up with His mighty right hand. God is truth. Second, lean not on your own understanding. God's ways are incomprehen- sible, but He is trustworthy. If you are like me, you try to figure things out. I have a desire to know what and why in life situaons. Unfortunately, life does not happen this way. Is it OK not to understand; but know who is in control. And finally, God will make our paths straight. This means more than guid- ance; it means that God will walk along the path of life with us. God has promised to never leave US or forsake us. Trust God, lean on God, and let God make your path straight. We tend to forget about all of the wonder that went into making us as we become grown - ups. Time has a way of dulling our shine. It’s part of the reason why people have to prod us to ‘say cheese’ when they take our picture. I think if we really believed that we are wonder- fully made in God’s image, no one would ever have to tell us to smile when they pulled out a camera. We would be smil- ing from ear-to-ear as we lived in the wonder that God made me! That is what we want for preschoolers. We want them to smile with confidence, because they know they are made by God. Dear FBC Family, Thank-you so much for all the prayers, calls, cards and e-mails of concern during Jerry's fall and surgery. He is doing well and re-covering nicely. We hope to return to "in-person" worship soon. But, until then, we are blessed with the "on-line" services. Sincerely, Joanne & Jerry Brown

Dear Church Family, We are deeply grateful for all the prayers, phone calls, and food received after Herman's accident and the following surgeries. We appreciate each and every one and are so blessed to belong to such a loving and caring church. Sincerely, Herman & Linda Benfield

Coming Soon...Notes...

Dear Church Family, Thank-you for the outpouring of love and compassion you have shown me in the death of my son, Mike. All the cards, visits and phone calls meant so much. Thank-you again,Eldon Fredericks

Back to School Jam set for Sunday, August 16 From the Minister of Children, Carrie Trotter... When school released on March 12, we had no idea that it would be the end of our school year. The 2019-2020 school year is certainly one that I, as a teacher, will always remember - and not in a good way. At press time, the news that we are returning to in-person school on August 21 in Habersham County is fi lled with joy and anticipation, but also questions and concerns. As we pre-pare ourselves for this school year, let’s begin with a celebration of friendship and hope at our Back to School Jam at 9:45 a.m. Sunday, August 16, in the Fellowship Hall. This event is for ALL children and youth and their families. This is a great opportunity to invite a friend too! We will have individually wrapped breakfast options including cereal, danishes, and fruit. We will spread out around the fellowship hall, each family sitting at a table; social distancing as much as possible. There will be activities, games, and a skit. The theme of Promotion Sunday this year is “Move UP” - with decorations inspired by the hope-fi lled Disney fi lm, “Up”.

Our biblical focus will be friend-ship and we will look at the story of David and Jonathan in 1 Samuel 20. As our students head back to school we want our children and youth to know that we use our words and actions to show others that we care - that is what friendship is all about. After our time together in the fel-lowship hall, we will move to the worship service where we will recog-nize the children and youth moving up to a new department. We will also have a special backpack blessing, so we are asking all teachers and students to bring their backpacks to the worship service.See Back to School Bash on back...

Back to School continued... There are many teachers in our congregation and we appreciate all of the support and encourage-ment as we face this diffi cult school year. With the loss of time together at the end of last school year, and the unknowns of the future - we covet your prayers. Continue to pray for our school board members, school leaders, and staff . Let’s remain hopeful. Like the Scripture says on this year’s backpack tags, “The Lord Himself goes before you, He will be with you” (Deut. 31:8).
