A word from our nipper chairman,
Welcome to Maroochydore Nippers. At Maroochydore, we pride ourselves on continuing to deliver what we feel is one of the best nipper programs available in the state. We aknowledge that all nippers have varying levels of skill and welcome all children regardless of their ability or achievements.
We strive to deliver a program that is well balanced in all aspects of Surf Lifesaving, in order for them to grow within a supportive, healthy environment. At Maroochydore we are passionate about not only developing the surf skills of our youngest members, but also believe that their personal growth and development in this environment will in many ways place them in good stead for some of the challenges they will inevitably face in their years ahead.
The three main areas of focus in our program are Surf Lifesaving and Surf skills development, Surf Sports and Competition, as well as a healthy social interaction within our great club.
At Maroochydore Surf Lifesaving, we encourage a “ONE CLUB” policy, where not only are you a nipper, but you will share in the values and advantages of being part of the Maroochydore Surf Club Family and also that of the greater Surf Lifesaving family, contributing huge benefits to the community as well as ourselves. In this view, we actively encourage all our Nipper families to get involved and subsequently receive the rewards of being a part of something special.
It is a great opportunity that you can give your child as a parent, to get them involved in the Surf Lifesaving Movement at a young age. I would encourage you all to get involved and reap the many rewards that will come.
I, along with the Junior Activity Committee, welcome you all on board. I sincerely hope that you enjoy being a part of our club, creating some special memories and lifelong friendships. I look forward to seeing you all on the beach.

Nipper days Sunday 7:50-10:30am
Nipper days are all about fun and friendships while learning beach safety through activities, technique drills, fitness, games, teamwork and theory. All age groups have an Age Manager with one or two assistants; they are responsible for education, training and the organisation of the group during nipper days and carnivals. Depending on conditions and other factors nippers may finish earlier than the 10.30.
7:00 – 7:50: Set up
Setting up nippers is no easy feat, volunteers are always required to assist in set up ,wash down and pack up of our club equipment. Be sure to introduce yourself, jump in and help out – it’s a great way to get to know others.
7:50 am: Sign on

8:00am: Nippers starts
At the commencement of Nippers we have a very informal information session and also each Age Manager has a sheet in their sign on folder - Cygnet Titbits: Weekly message on useful information and upcoming events Nipper activity rotation: Every age group has a rotation of approximately 45 minutes that alternates between beach and water activities.
It is a requirement of Maroochydore Club that parents stay on the beach at all times with their child’s age group. In the case of siblings, please advise age manager/s where you are in case of emergency. At the conclusion of activities children are signed off and are not to leave the age manager or assistants until their parents or guardians have collected them.
Maroochydore River
During the season we may conduct nippers in the Maroochydore River particularly when the surf conditions are rough. This will be advised during the Cygnet Tidbits and after signed on at the club. As a group we walk around to the river and return to the club to sign off.
BBQ
To feed our hungry nippers we do run a BBQ. The running of the BBQ is done by rotation through the age groups and only operates when all age groups are at nippers [refer to Rosters]

Help….volunteers needed
Kids cannot participate or compete without appropriate level of officials, water safety, IRB drivers and crew. It is a great way to meet people and get front row seats with your children and their friends. Courses run regularly and most schedules can be accommodated in some way. Don’t be shy – contact the office to
find out more.
No matter your skill set or strengths all volunteers are gratefully appreciated! Water safety, official or IRB not your style! That’s ok! We always need friendly faces at Sunday BBQ, and help
with nipper setup and wash down. Not sure what to do? Just ask your age manger they will definitely look after you.
Don’t forget Blue Card1 Application available http://lifesaving.maroochysurfclub.com.au (refer Forms). We do request all parents apply for blue card as part of sign up. Let Michelle submit it for you it takes all the hard work out of it – Michelle even does it with a smile.
Our club is only great because of continued commitment and support by hard working volunteers – so………THANK YOU – YOU’RE AWESOME
Life after nippers,A primary objective of Junior Activities is the preparation of nippers for the senior movement for children from 13-15 years. These members participate in beach and surf patrols utilising the skills learnt during junior years.
The reward for those who continue onto senior ranks is considerable. In return for patrolling duties, the club offers a range of facilities and services such as comprehensive coaching programs, a large array of awards, competition opportunities, club gym from the age of 16 , and licensed club facility from the age of 18.
1SLSQ policy requires persons over 18 working with minors hold a current blue card. Version 1-0 Page 4 of 11

Carnivals (surf sports)Surf sports are perhaps the most rewarding for our nippers, as they enjoy the spirit of competition and team building. Carnivals offer a wide range of events for all ages concluding with Branch Titles (U8-U10) and State Championships (U11-U14) each year. Nippers must have completed relevant run-swim-run & competition evaluation and appropriate age awards to compete at carnivals.
How long?Carnivals are held over one day3 with warm up normally starting at 7 am, marshalling at 7:45am and concluding at approximately 4 pm. Some club craft will be transported to the event for competitors to use.
This year we will be trialling a roster for trailer loading, transportation, carnival tent set up, pack up and trailer unloading [refer to Rosters]. It’s everybody’s (kids included) responsibility to assist in setting up and packing up (sometimes this does require additional communal refreshments for the adults to recover from the strenuous activity).
It can be a long day and competitors require - club nipper cap, club swimwear, water bottle, nutritional food, sunscreen, hat, long sleeve shirt, towels and warm clothes (just in case).
