A Weapons Rack Comparison from Spacesaver
Spacesaver Universal Weapons Rack with Fully Retractable Doors
vs.
84” High Cabinet with Bi-Fold Doors
What’s Most Important to the Customer?
Efficient storage / maximize capacity
Keeping weapons secure
At the ready In most cases storing with optics attached
Able to transform easily to accommodate new weapons or strategies
What’s To Compare?
Doors Bi-Fold versus Fully Retractable
Weapon Density
Security
Flexibility and Modularity
Comparison 1: Doors 84” High Cabinet with Bi-Fold Doors
Doors protrude 9” into the aisle, creating an obstacle around which to issue weapons.
Accordingly, an additional 18” per aisle is required to accommodate open doors, which means wasted floor space.
Open doors are exposed to potential damage as they may be bumped or run into with a large weapon as personnel move throughout the arms room.
In a mobile aisle system, all doors must be closed prior to moving the system.
Spacesaver UWR with Fully Retractable Doors
Fully retractable doors mean no obstructions in the aisle way to interfere with weapon issues.
Allows you to minimize aisle widths and maximize storage capacity.
Doors are protected from damage, while retracted.
Mobile aisle systems can be moved without having to close weapon racks (allows you to issue from multiple aisles).
84” H cabinet with Bi-Fold Doors Bi-Fold Doors impede aisles, consume valuable floor space, and can be a safety and/or quality concern.
Armory Personnel

Open doors are

damage and create potential safety/
quality issues
Fully Retractable Doors
Min. Aisle Width needed
With doors fully retracted
into the cabinet, the
aisles are clear and there are no obstacles to
work around.
Side by Side Comparison Bi-fold doors impede aisles, creating an obstacle to issue around. Doors
are vulnerable to damage.
Spacesaver fully retractable doors keep aisles clear
Comparison 2: Weapon Density and Storage Capacity 84” High Cabinet with Bi-Fold Doors
Advertised Weapon densities are cut in half when optics are stored on the weapons.
Bi-fold doors require more aisle space to work around and therefore require more floor space.
Spacesaver UWR with Fully Retractable Doors
Multiple options are available to maximize weapon density inside the racks whether weapons are stored with or without optics attached.
Retractable doors maximize use of floor space.
Floor Plan Comparisons Scenario A: Weapon racks on Mobile Storage Systems
Scenario B: Weapon racks in stationary arms room
Same room layouts used in both scenarios.
These are actual arms room floor plans.
A. 84” High Racks with Bi-Fold Doors on Mobile
43 -84” H Racks WITHOUT Optics
= 43 x 24 weapons per rack
= 1,032 weapons total capacity
43 – 84” H Racks WITH Optics
= 43 x 12 weapons per rack
= 516 weapons total capacity
A. Spacesaver UWR on Mobile
With or Without Optics:
Min. Cap. = 720 weapons
Max. Cap. = 1,080 weapons
12-gun and 15-gun
options new &
exclusive to Spacesaver
“Gun option” refers to
inserts in the rack to
gain different weapon densities
Scenario A Comparison 84” High Cabinet with Bi-Fold Doors
Weapons Density
WITHOUT Optics:
– 1,032 weapons
WITH Optics:
– 516 weapons
Spacesaver UWR with Fully Retractable Doors
Weapons Density
WITHOUT Optics:
– 720-1,080 weapons
– 4.5% more capacity than 84” H option
WITH Optics:
– 720 -1,080 weapons
– 109% more capacity than 84” H option
B. Bi-Fold Door Option (Stationary)

Capacity WITH Optics
= 240
B. Spacesaver UWR (Stationary)
With OR Without Optics:
Min. Capacity = 440
weapons Max. Capacity = 660
Scenario B Comparison 84” High Cabinet with Bi-Fold Doors
Weapons Density
WITHOUT Optics:
– 480 weapons
WITH Optics:
– 240 weapons
Spacesaver UWR with Fully Retractable Doors
Weapons Density
WITHOUT Optics:
– 440-660 weapons
– 37.5% more capacity than 84” H option
WITH Optics:
– 440-660 weapons
– 175% more capacity than 84” H option
Comparison 3: Security 84” High Cabinet with Bi-Fold Doors
“Self-certified.” Security claims have not been evaluated by an authorized authority.
Locking mechanism can potentially be compromised (illustration shown).
No NSN’s means all racks have to be certified on-site with no assurance that racks will meet inspection.
Spacesaver UWR with Fully Retractable Doors
All Racks certified by TACOM and MARCORSYSCOM
All racks meet OPNAVINST 5530.13C and AR 190-11
All racks come with NSN tags on front of cabinet (over 110 NSN’s issued to Spacesaver UWR’s and components). No further inspections or certifications required.

Lock Rod can potentially be
compromised by pushing it in
The lock rod can
potentially be compromised
because the engagement with the
rack is too shallow

Spacesaver is not
“self-certifying.”
Spacesaver is approved by both
TACOM and
MARCORSYSCOM
Comparison 4: Flexibility and Modularity 84” High Cabinet with Bi-Fold Doors
Easily reconfigured.
Louvers support barrel clips or plastic bins, but with limited flexibility.
Spacesaver UWR with Fully Retractable Doors
“Universal” in design – easily reconfigured
Many reconfigurations don’t require a new insert, just a “repositioning” of internal components.
Support rails accommodate plastic bins, barrel supports, & shelves. Adjustable vertically on 1-1/2” increments.
Both Horizontal and Vertical Mounting Position Flexibility

Comparison 4: Flexibility and Modularity 84” High Cabinet with Bi-Fold Doors
Garrison applications only.
Spacesaver UWR with Fully Retractable Doors
Accessories for both “Garrison” and “Transport.”
Transport components tested, confirming racks can be moved, while weapons held securely in place.

Transport
Final Summary 84” High Cabinet with Bi-Fold Doors
Doors impede aisles, consuming valuable floor space and obstructing weapon issue.
No certification. Each rack needs to be inspected individually.
Limited to garrison use only. Non-deployable.
Spacesaver UWR with Fully Retractable Doors
Retractable doors maximize armory capacity and efficiencies in issuing weapons.
Pre-Certified. No further inspections needed.
Greatest versatility whether in garrison or mobilizing.
