Reluctant at first, he gives in.On their first date, Landon helps Jamie to fulfill her list of things she wants to achieve in life, such as being in two places at once, and getting a tattoo; she also hopes to read all of the hundred great American books recommended by her English teacher. After that, they go to the docks. Jamie tells Landon about how she experiences belief and how it's like the wind. She states that maybe God sent Landon to her to help her through the rough times and that Landon is her angel.Unbeknownst to Landon, Jamie is given private home care by Landon's estranged father relieving her father's financial burden. Landon visits his dad, tearfully thanking him for his help. They embrace and are reunited.Landon is building a telescope for Jamie to be able to see a comet in the springtime. Jamie's father helps him get it finished in time. The telescope is brought to her on the balcony. She gets a beautiful view of the comet through the new telescope. It is then that Landon proposes marriage.Jamie tearfully accepts, and they get married in the church in which her deceased mother grew up and got married. The NotebookAt a modern-day nursing home, an elderly man named Duke (James Garner) begins to read a romantic story from his notebook to a fellow patient (Gena Rowlands). The story he tells begins in 1940, inSeabrook Island, South Carolin.Local country boy Noah Calhoun (Ryan Gosling) is smitten with seventeen-year-old heiress Allie Hamilton (Rachel McAdams) after seeing her at a carnival, and they share an idyllic summer love affair. Noah takes Allie to an abandoned house, explaining that he intends to buy it for them. Later that evening, she asks him to make love to her, but they are interrupted by Noah's friend Fin (Kevin Connolly) with the news that Allie's parents have the police out looking for her. When Allie and Noah return to her parents' mansion, they ban her from seeing Noah. In a heated argument, Allie's mother calls Noah "trash, trash, trash" and Noah overhears. Upset, he walks out and Allie chases after him. The ensuing argument between the two ends in a break up and the next morning, Allie's mother, Ann (Joan Allen) announces that the family is returning home to Charleston. Allie attempts to contact Noah, but is unable to find him. She asks Fin to tell Noah that she loves him before driving home. When Noah gets Allie's message he rushes over to the family's house only to find it empty.Noah and Allie have no choice but to move on with their lives. Noah writes to Allie every day for a year, but never receives a response as Ann hides the letters before her daughter can see them. Heartbroken, Noah enlists with Fin to fight inWorld War II. Fin is killed in battle. Meanwhile, Allie volunteers in a hospital for wounded soldiers, where she meets an officer named Lon Hammond, Jr. (James Marsden), a young lawyer who is handsome, sophisticated, charming and comes from old Southern money. The two eventually become engaged, to the delight of Allie's parents, but Allie sees Noah's face when Lon asks her to marry him. When Noah returns home from the war, he discovers his father has sold their home so that Noah can buy the abandoned house, fulfilling his lifelong dream to buy it for Allie, whom he has neither seen nor heard from for several years. While visiting Charleston, Noah witnesses Allie and Lon kissing at a restaurant; he convinces himself that if he restores the house, Allie will come back to him. Later, Allie is startled to read in the newspaper that Noah has completed the house to the specifications she'd made years prior, and she visits him in Seabrook. In the present, it is revealed that the elderly woman is Allie, who is suffering fromdementia. Duke is her husband, but Allie does not recognize him, nor remember any of the events Duke is reading to her.Back in the forties, Allie returns to Seabrook to find Noah living in the restored house. The two renew their relationship and make love. In the morning, Ann appears on Noah's doorstep, warning Allie that Lon has followed her to Seabrook. She gives Allie the letters that Noah had written to her and reveals that in her youth she, too, had been in love with a lower class young man and that she still thinks of him. Allie confesses to Lon that she has been spending time with Noah. He is upset but says that he still loves her. Allie tells him she knows she should be with him, but she remains indecisive. In the present, Allie briefly becomes lucid. She remembers that the story Duke is reading is the story of how they met. Duke tells her how she appeared at Noah's doorstep with her belongings, having left Lon at the hotel, and Allie suddenly remembers her past. At the onset of her dementia, she wrote their love story in the notebook with instructions for Noah to "read this to me, and I'll come back to you." But Allie soon relapses, losing her memories of Noah. She panics, not understanding who he is, and has to be sedated. Duke - who is in fact Noah - is hospitalized with what seems to be a heart attack. When he is released from the hospital, Noah visits Allie and finds her lucid again. Allie asks Noah what will happen to them when she loses her memory completely, and he reassures her that he will never leave her. She asks him if he thinks their love for each other is strong enough to "take them away together"; he replies that he thinks their love can do anything. After each tells the other that they love them, they both go to sleep in Allie's bed. The next morning a nurse finds that they have died peacefully in bed together2004: Golden Trailer Awards - Best Romance ->nominated Teen Choice Awards - Choice Movie of the Summer ->nominated - Choice Breakout Movie Star ->nominated 2005: Artios Awards - Outstanding Achievement in Casting Feature Film ->nominated Golden Satellite Awards - Best Supporting Actress Motion Picture ->won MTV Movie Awards - Best Female Performance ->nominated - Best ->won Screen Actors Guild Awards -Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role ->nominated Teen Choice Awards - Choice Movie Drama ->won - Choice Date Movie ->won - Choice Movie Actor Drama ->won - Choice Movie Actress Drama ->won - Choice Movie Breakout Performance Male ->Won - Choice Movie Chemistry ->Won - Choice Movie Liplockel ->Won - Choice Movie Love Scene ->Won

When his platoon brushes up against a second Marine platoon, Logan and another Marine have weapons pointed at each other before they both lower their weapons, realizing the other is not a "bad guy". Shortly thereafter Logan witnesses a Marine called "Aces" die while attempting to aid one of his men during an ambush. The following morning, he sees something glinting in the sun and walks over to pick it up. It is a picture of a young woman, with the message "keep safe x" written on the back. At that moment, amortarattack destroys where he had been sitting before he saw the picture, killing some of those around him, but leaving him with minor injuries. He later tries to find the owner of the picture, but is unsuccessful. Logan keeps the picture, and has a run of close calls but escapes them, though a number of his comrades do not. On his final mission Logan and a squadmate are discussing the upcoming end of their tour, and thoughts of returning home. Logan's squad mate is confident Logan will get back home, declaring the woman in the picture is Logan's "guardian angel". The conversation ends abruptly when an explosion destroys the Humvee they were riding in.Logan returns toColoradoto live with his sister and her family, who have been looking after his dog, Zeus. Suffering fromPTSDandsurvivor guilt, he finds it difficult to adjust to life back home. He decides it is best to leave, and he departs to find some peace from his memories, and to search for the woman in the picture to thank her for her unknown role in helping to bring him through.Logan walks with his dog Zeus toLouisiana, where a lighthouse in the background of the picture of the unknown woman has provided a clue to her location. Once there he asks around if anyone could recognize the woman in the picture, and a local resident Logan finds in a bar recognizes the woman, but warns Logan that she used to be married to a friend of his, a local deputy sheriff.Logan finds the woman, Beth Green (Taylor Schilling), but has difficulty explaining why he is there. She assumes he wants to apply for a job, and becomes wary of him. She looks to send him off, but her grandmother Ellie (Blythe Danner) is less quick to judge, and decides to give him the job. At first, Beth is irritated by Logan's presence, but begins to warm to him as he proves to be more solid than she had at first supposed. Logan's calm, steady presence and willingness to work are appreciated, as is his competence in repairing machinery. Through it all he develops a supportive relationship with Beth's son, Ben, who is without a strong, positive male presence in his life since the death of Beth's brother, Drake.Beth's former husband,Sheriff DeputyKeith Clayton, the son of the town's judge and mayoral hopeful, is immediately suspicious and jealous of Logan. He is brusque and overbearing with the former Marine. Insecure, he discourages Ben from playing theviolinaround him, something which causes Ben to practice in histree houseby himself. When Ben returns bloodied from a charity baseball game, Beth and Keith have an argument, and Keith threatens to use his connections to take full custody of Ben. Beth is anxious over Keith's short temper, and is fearful of losing her son to him.On the anniversary of Drake's death, Beth becomes distraught and Logan comforts her. Beth opens up about the life she had growing up with her brother, and she takes Logan to a boat her parents owned. The boat no longer runs, but she is fond of it, and she reminisces about how she and Drake used to ride together on it when they were young. One day Logan overhears Ben playing the violin in his tree house. Later, Ben discovers that Logan is musical as well, and has a talent for playing the piano. Logan convinces Ben to team up with him for a church service performance, and with coaxing and encouragement, Ben agrees. Keith tries to do something about the budding relationship between Beth and Logan, but Beth stands up to Keith, showing that she is not intimidated by him anymore.Logan and Ben perform for the church. Afterwards the man who Logan talked to when he first arrived in town finds Keith to tell him about Logan asking around with the photograph. Keith breaks into Logan's home and steals the photograph, and then tells Beth that Logan has been stalking her. Her trust destroyed, Beth is distraught and sends Logan away. As he walks from the house young Ben comes out and gives him his chess book. Ellie tries to soften Beth, explaining to her that it isn't Logan's fault he survived and Drake did not.An intoxicated Keith sees Logan walking with his dog and angrily confronts him. When Zeus starts barking Keith draws his weapon, aiming briefly at Zeus before aiming at Logan, while people around them on the street begin to panic and run. Logan manages to disarm Keith, turning his gun over to another officer. Logan heads home to pack up his belongings. While doing so he flips through the chess book and finds a picture of Beth's brother, Drake. The tattoo on Drake's forearm says "Aces". Realizing now that he knows what became of Beth's brother, he heads back to Beth's house to tell her.Keith is at Judge Clayton's, shocked and embarrassed over what he had done. The judge continues to see events only as they relate to himself, and tells Keith the other sheriff will look the other way, and it will all blow over before the election. Keith walks out into a gathering storm, leaving his badge behind. He heads for Beth's to plead to get back together again. Beth gently but firmly tells him it cannot be, angering Keith, who threatens to take Ben away. Hearing this the boy runs out into the storm with Keith following. Beth goes after them, just as Logan arrives. Ellie urges Logan to follow.Ben heads for his tree house, but has difficulty crossing the river because of the high water and storm. Therope bridgegives way and father and son are dropped into the water, just as Beth and Logan arrive. Keith calls to Logan for help and he immediately comes to assist, as the tree house sways in the wind. Keith is caught in the rope of the bridge, and gives Ben over to Logan. Logan says he will return for Keith, but as Ben is handed up to Beth the tree house falls and Keith disappears under it. The river sweeps the debris away. Paramedics arrive in the background. Judge Clayton thanks Logan for saving Ben, to which Logan replies it was Keith that had saved him, and conveys his condolences.Back home, Beth goes to thank Logan for saving her son. Logan states he is there to tell her he knew what happened to her brother Drake. He tells Beth how he saw one of Drake's men injured, and how Drake went to rescue him, paying for it with his life. Logan assures Beth that her brother didn't die in vain. As Logan walks out, Beth runs after him and asks him to stay, saying "You belong here with us."The final scene shows Logan, Beth, Zeus and Ben, on Ben's 9th birthday, steering the boat as they make their way through the beauty of the Louisiana delta.

The Best of MeDawson Cole works on an oil rig off the coast of Louisiana. One day, an explosion on the rig nearly kills him, throwing him into the water. Miraculously, he survives. Months later, Dawson learns that his close friend and surrogate father, Tuck Hostetler, had died. Dawson returns home for the first time in twenty years to carry out Tuck's final wishes. Amanda Collier, a married housewife, also gets a call to be a part of the proceedings. Her overbearing husband tries to get her to stay but she goes anyway. After Dawson arrives and settles in, he is surprised to learn that Amanda, who he hasn't seen in twenty-one years, also got a call. He greets her warmly but she awkwardly makes excuses and leaves. In the past Dawson was a shy, kind boy while Amanda was a part of the popular group in school. She attempts to get to know Dawson but he quietly shrugs her off and is yelled at by his cousin, Bobby, for doing so. Later on, Amanda apparently sabotages her car to get Dawson to help her and after she points out his lack of skill in flirting, they make plans to meet up for dinner. At home, Dawson is beaten by his abusive father, Tommy, when he refuses to help him with criminal work on the night of his date with Amanda. He runs away and finds shelter from the rain in a random garage for the night. The next morning Tuck Hostetler finds him and lets him stay after learning about his situation. After being stood up by Dawson, Amanda tracks him down to the garage to yell at him for it. Dawson tries to hide his injuries but when she is about to leave he explains that his black-eye is the reason he didn't want to go out in public. Amanda gives him a second chance and they spend their date eating ice cream and talking about their lives and futures on top of a water tower. Amanda wants to be a lawyer in a nonprofit organization for underprivileged children and a daughter named Bea, but Dawson doesn't think he'll be able to go to college. At the end of the night, they passionately kiss outside of Amanda's house after Amanda makes the first move.In the present, Dawson and Amanda are in the attorney's office. Tuck didn't want anything to be spent on "frivolities" or a funeral. Dawson and Amanda could take whatever they wanted from his things. Everything else, except for his cottage, was to be donated to the American Pediatric Cancer Society. The cottage was to be shared by them, and that's where he wanted his ashes to be scattered as well. He also left them individual letters to be read privately.Afterwards Dawson tries to learn about Amanda's life and her family but she cuts him off and seems to want everything over with quickly. As she walks away Dawson quietly says he's sorry. Amanda reads Tuck's letter where he asks her to forgive Dawson and herself to relieve the emotional pain and wounds she's been living with.In the past again Dawson and Amanda are playing around in the garage when Dawson's family pulls up. He forcefully makes Amanda leave, going so far as to shove her into her car. Tommy beats him again and tells him to come home. Tuck arrives and threatens Tommy with a rifle. He shoots up Tommy's truck and nearly shoots off his hand when he tries to touch the flowers his wife grew. Once they leave Tuck tells Dawson to move his stuff inside the house to be safe. Dawson goes to Amanda's house and tries to warn her away from him to keep her safe. She won't budge and they end up kissing happily in the rain.Back in the present, Dawson is in a hardware store and runs into his brothers and Bobby's son. At Tuck's house Amanda helps Dawson pack up his things. She sums up her life for him. She got pregnant her sophomore year of college and never finished, got married, had another kid, and lives in a big house. She never accomplished any of her plans but is happy being a mother. Dawson finds a framed picture of Amanda, Tuck, and her daughter and she seems emotionally affected by it.Amanda's thoughts drift back to when she was pressing Dawson to apply for college while they bring in groceries for dinner at Tuck's house. Problem is he needs a home address. Amanda immediately rushes in and asks Tuck if Dawson can use his without hesitation. In the kitchen Tuck tells them about his wife's passing. At dinner the couple argue about the existence of destiny. Tuck tells them a story about a song he sang when he was gravely injured during the war and how about the same time his wife had a dream of Tuck singing the same song to her. Later that night, Dawson and Amanda intimately dance to the song.Amanda calls Dawson into the kitchen and tells him about her daughter who Tuck loved. She was diagnosed with leukemia two weeks after the picture Tuck had was taken. Amanda and her husband started drinking but he never stopped. Dawson expresses his wish that he could have been there for her. Her daughter's name was Bea, and she died of leukemia at age two.Twenty one years later the two are in Tuck's kitchen again, making dinner. Dawson's cooking has drastically improved and Amanda still wants him to go to college even though he doesn't want to. Dawson confesses that he hasn't found a woman who can match up to what he had with her. Amanda wants to leave because of the wine she's had and the fact that to her annoyance, Dawson has become even more attractive over the years. In a direct parallel to their first date, Dawson hands Amanda a flower and she kisses him before quickly leaving. Another flashback is revealed in which Dawson and Amanda's first night together is depicted. Dawson has gone to Vandemere to complete some yard work for Tuck, when Amanda surprises him in nothing but a blanket. The two then make love for the first time.At Amanda's house, Dawson arrived and meet her parents. Her father talks to Dawson and promised him to pay for his college in exchange to stay away from Amanda. Dawnson angrily refuses the offer and drives off. Amanda follows him to the water tower and felt sorry for what happened. And end up kissing.Back to the present, Amanada asked Dawson if she can drive his car. They exchanged seats and drive to Vandemere. At Tuck's cottage, they scatter the ashes of Tuck at the garden. The two then have a picnic beside the swimming hole. Dawson shares the incident at the oil rig and how he survives. He also admits to Amanda that he saw her before drowning. Amanda stand up as Dawson tells her maybe all happens to have a chance seeing her again and tells how he's sorry. Amanda ask him if he wanted her to fallback inlove with but she admits she never did stop loving him. Before graduation, Dawson's father and brothers brutally beat up Tuck and destroy his garden. Dawson, angered, goes to his father's house with the intent of killing him with Tuck's rifle. However, they scuffle, and Dawson's cousin Bobby, an expectant teen father, is accidentally killed. In exchange for a lighter sentence, Dawson testifies against his father and brothers. However, since Dawson will not be paroled for several years, he cuts ties with Amanda, forcing her to choose college over staying with him.In the present, while having dinner at Tuck's house, Amanda asks Dawson why he refused to see her every day for a month, and every week for a year after he was jailed. Dawson and Amanda spend a passionate night together. The following day, Amanda decides to return to her family and her strained marriage. However, she later decides to split up with her husband, and she leaves Dawson a voicemail expressing her love.Meanwhile, Amanda's son was in an accident and receives a heart from a donor. The movie ends with Amanda's son calling from college saying that since it has been a year since the accident. Amanda has since become paralegal for a children's nonprofit. Dawson shows up at Amanda's office with roses. The two share a kiss and Dawson and brings her back to Tuck's old garden, which Dawson has since revitalized and replanted. They walk hand in hand smiling through the garden as the screen fades to black
