Door of Hope missionaries speaking at Round Hill By Sharon James
The WMU invites everyone to meet missionaries Don and Cheryl Allen on Sunday, November 2 at 3:00 PM in the fellowship hall. Don and Cheryl founded ARISE Ministries in South Africa to serve the disad-vantaged, share the good news of Jesus Christ and equip Christ-followers for life and ministry in the Kingdom of God. Among their ministries are Door of Hope in Johannesburg which rescues abandoned ba-bies and prepares them for adoption into strong Chris-tian families. Door of Hope has been supported finan-cially and prayerfully by members of Round Hill. This meeting will take the place of the regular Novem-ber WMU monthly meeting. Cookies and punch will be served. Come and see how the Lord has worked in their lives and their ministry.
Details for ladies retreat By Sharon James
Ladies, the deadline to sign up for the women’s retreat is Sunday, November 16. Our retreat will focus on ex-ploring our identity as Christian women through the books of Ruth and Esther. The $60 cost includes three meals, lodging and linens. We will depart from the Round Hill parking lot at 3:00 PM Friday, November 21 and will return Saturday, November 22 around 3:00 PM. GAs filling shoe boxes By Lori Minter
At the November 9 meeting GAs will fill 20 shoe boxes for Samari-tan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child. Each girl should bring a small picture of herself to include in the shoe box—last year’s school picture would be ideal. Gift-filled shoeboxes are a powerful

Youth fundraising for Haitian mission trip
By Pastor Kris This summer our youth min-istry is taking a group of our older high school students to Haiti to serve alongside local Haitian churches and Pray-ing Pelican Missions. This mission is a tremendous fi-nancial investment for our youth ministry and our fami-lies, so we will be selling Krispy Kreme products (doughnuts, certificates, cards and coffee) from Octo-ber 26 until November 10 (which includes the Harvest Party, Café Impact and our November business meeting). We will deliver the products on November 16 during the Sunday School hour. We have set a goal of $1,000. Dare 2 Share ‘special price’ deadline is November 3
By Pastor Kris This spring we will join over 2,000 middle school and high school students from the eastern part of the United States, including North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland and Pennsylvania to serve and worship in Woodbridge, Virginia. The name of this trip is Dare 2 Share and it is a life-changing weekend. We have the opportunity to serve in various projects around the town of Woodbridge including working with homeless people and door-to-door evangelism. It would take millions of words to describe this minis-try, this trip, this experience, so if you would like more information, please let us know and we’ll send you additional information right away. The dates are April 10-11, 2015 and the cost is $90 (which includes a 2015 “Fearless” themed T-shirt).

Café Impact money used for mission trips By Pastor Kris
This year Café Impact will be a bi-monthly event, and all of the money donated will go specifically to our Ridgecrest, North Carolina mission trip in June 2015. We also have set a goal of $1,300 for the five Café Impacts. We encourage everyone to join us for a good meal and a great time of fellowship in the next year. Our next Café Impact will be held Sun-day, November 9 at 12:15 PM in the fellowship hall. Our menu will be meatball subs, chips, salad, and dessert. We hope to see you there!
Jar mixes and nuts go on sale December 7 By Lori Minter
The GAs will meet at church Friday, December 5 at 6:00 PM to prepare jar mixes and bake nuts. If you have any jars or tins from last year’s sale, you can return them to Lori Minter this month to help cut down on our expenses. All money raised will be split evenly between the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering, our Vacation Bible School Compassion child, Am-bily Biju in India and Emily Minter’s ongoing work in China. Something’s fishy Reprinted with permission from The Newsletter Newsletter
On her blog “Tales of Wonder,” Marlo Schalesky writes about the short-lived goldfish her family has accumulated over the years. When her daughter brought two more home, Schalesky tried to lower her expectations: “Fish like this don’t live that long.” Yet those particular fish thrived — one lived five years! Schalesky fig-ured their well water must have been purer than the city water their previous pets in-habited. People are like fish that way, Schalesky suggests: What surrounds us has power over us. Constantly “swimming” in negativity and impure thoughts hin-ders our growth and well-being. Yet if we seek Christ-like surroundings, we’ll thrive spiritually. “Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable — if anything is excellent or praisewor-thy — think about such things” (Philippians 4:8, NIV).
For your countless blessings, God, we thank you.

Our Vacation Bible School 2008 sponsored Ambily Biju in India through Compassion Interna-tional. We recently received this letter, dated August 10: Dear Round Hill Baptist (VBS): Praise the Lord. Hope you are doing well. By the grace of God
I and my family are keeping fine. Here it is rainy season. It damages many of the properties and pre-cious lives. We got leave due to heavy rain. I passed 12th grade with 70% marks. I joined in Health Inspector Course for two years. I and my parents also like the course. Classes will be started by this month (August). I got a pair of colour dresses, a bag, books and other materials from my project accordingly my needs. My few friends are going to Degree Course and their classes are already started. My best friend Jisha is studying at Tiruvalla and it is 350 kilometers away from here. One of my younger sisters is studying in 11th grade and the youngest is in 6th grade. Last two months I studied tailoring in my project. Now I have learnt to stitch my dress. I stitched my churidar (type of dress in India) which was given from my project. I take tuition for two children both of them are from my neighbors. Often I and my four friends take classes for junior children in my project. It is very enjoyable moments. My uncle is admitted in a hospital due to neurology problem. He must need an operation. So I request your prayers for him. I remember you in my daily prayers. Eagerly awaiting for your reply.

As I approached a brightly lit, vertical floor plan at a mall, I noticed a woman standing in front of it for quite a while. “Can I help you find something?” I offered. As people scurried around us, she replied, “No, thanks. I’m just pausing for a moment.” Then, pointing to the arrow that announced, “You are here,” she said, “I need to be reminded sometimes.” Don’t we all! When life gets crazy, perhaps we need to stop, like the wise woman at the mall, and remind ourselves that we don’t have to try to be everywhere at once. We’re “here,” and that’s the only place we can be. Better still, we can imagine a bright arrow pointing to where we are in life, proclaiming, “God is here!”

Here is a list that makes the rounds of email and Face-book every once in a while. It used to circulate in hard copy in the dark ages when I first saw it. The list still chal-lenges us on our attitude toward church attendance.
12 Reasons Why a Pastor Quits Attending Sports Events
1. The coach never came to visit me.
2. Every time I went, they asked me for money.
3. The people sitting in my row didn’t seem very friendly.
4. The seats were very hard.
5. The referees made a decision I didn’t agree with.
6. I was sitting with hypocrites—they only came to see what others were wearing!
7. Some games went into overtime and I was late getting home.
8. The band played some songs I had never heard before.
9. The games are scheduled on my only day to sleep in and run errands.
10. My parents took me to too many games when I was growing up.
11. Since I read a book on sports, I feel that I know more than the coaches, anyway.
12. I don’t want to take my children because I want them to choose for themselves what sport they like best.

The Newsletter Newsletter Veterans Day, which is November 11 each year, is a holiday to honor America’s veterans for their patriot-ism and willingness to serve and sac-rifice for our nation’s common good.
Christians follow the Prince of Peace, so war is a dilemma that often chal-lenges people of faith. Some Christians are pacifists, while others believe in a “just war.” Many believe that the goals of freedom, justice, equality and de-mocracy are worth the cost required. Whatever individual Christians decide about any given conflict, most Chris-tians believe that men and women who strive to make this world free of ty-rants are to be respected. As Winston Churchill said, “Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few.” Thank you to all the men and women who served or are now serving our country.
