How to View Timetables
A User Guide for Students
We suggest you check your timetable – either via OnTime or via
your Individual Student Timetable where applicable - on a regular
basis, as, despite the University’s best efforts, sometimes changes
have to be made for reasons such as staff sickness or a room
unavoidably being required for another purpose.

Please visit the Student
Timetables webpage for more
information.
Introduction to OnTime
The OnTime interface allows you to view timetables and
request rooms.
Accessing the software:
1. By clicking on the My Calendar tile in CLIC Portal;
2. By navigating from the Students tab on the CCCU
homepage (CCCU Homepage / Students / Current
Students / Academic Services / Student Timetables);
3. By accessing it directly on the following address:
http://ontime.canterbury.ac.uk/
If you are accessing OnTime off campus, you might
need to type ccad\ before your username, depending
on the device you are using. Please also note that
OnTime will only be fully functional if you use
Internet Explorer or Google Chrome, the University’s
recommended browsers.
View Timetables
Use this guide to display and print timetables based on
programmes of study, modules, student groups and rooms.
Request Rooms
For guidance on how to request rooms for group study
activities or specialist rooms etc., go to the Student
Timetables webpage and click on the How to
Request a Room link in the Find Out More section.
There is also a downloadable student user guide on How to
request rooms on OnTime in the Useful Links section of this
webpage (also available from the Student Timetables
webpage).
The Help for Students tab on OnTime is hyperlinked to
the Student Timetables webpage.

Section 1 (View Timetables) has
information on using filters for
your chosen timetable view.
1. View Timetables
To view your timetable, click on the View Timetables tab on
the OnTime homepage, ensuring you have selected the
correct academic year (if applicable).
Figure 2
The View Timetables tool is a flexible means for displaying
timetable information from different perspectives. The most
important and relevant ones to you are described here in this
guide.
N.B.: Please note that the system defaults to view by
Room, so it is important to select your chosen view if
different by clicking the relevant heading as shown in
figure 1 above.
1.1 Programmes (i.e. programme of study/course
timetable).
1.2 Modules (i.e. individual module timetable).
1.3 Student Groups (i.e. student group timetable).
1.4 Rooms (i.e. room timetable).
Section 2 (Print Style) contains
guidance on viewing or printing
timetables.
For each of these perspectives, it is possible to view/print the
following:
2.1 Grid
2.2 Combined Timetable
2.3 Activity Report

Combined Honours
Programmes
1.1 Programme Timetables
Timetables can be viewed and printed that cover an entire
programme of study (e.g. BSc (Hons) Biosciences).
Filter by Department
The Department filter allows the list of programmes to be
restricted to a chosen Department/School. It is recommended
to use this filter as it greatly reduces the number of
programmes offered in the Select Programme(s) box
underneath.
N.B.: Combined Honours students have two options of
looking up the timetable for their programme:
Check each part of your programme separately. In other
words, if you are combining History with English
Literature, you must check both programmes separately
on OnTime.
Alternatively, select Ba/BSc Combined Honours in the
department filter (see Figure 3 below). This will bring up
a list of all combined programmes. Please note that
programmes with Foundation Years are grouped at the
top of the list, and programmes including an
International Foundation Year at the bottom of the list.

Select Programme(s)
Scroll down the Select Programme(s) list and select one or
more programmes by holding down the Ctrl key.
Where multiple entries exist for a programme, this usually
denotes multiple levels/years (e.g. (1) for Year 1). Depending
on the programme, there could be additional information,
such as
campus information (e.g. CAN for Canterbury
campus);
month of cohort intake (e.g. MAR for March);
a combination of campus location and intake (e.g.
CSE for Canterbury September);
programme delivery details (e.g. PP for ‘with
Professional Placement’) and similar.
Where available, such additional information is indicated in
brackets.
It is possible to select more than one programme at once by
holding down the Ctrl key.
Select Week(s)
Select a week or week pattern using the scroll list. Please note
that it defaults to This Week, but there are a number of
different patterns (e.g. Semester 1 or Autumn for
programmes not on Semesters etc.).
Alternatively, scroll to the end of the list to select individual
weeks (hold down Ctrl for multiple selections).
N.B.: Teaching timetables are finalised on a semesterly
basis, so it is not recommended to view the full year as it
is subject to change.
Select Day(s)
Select days or day ranges using the drop down list.
Select Start/End Time
Choose from Working Day, Morning, Afternoon, Evening or
All Day.
Select an appropriate Print Style (See Section 2) and then
click on the View Timetable button.

year number format. A guide to academic year week
numbers can be found on the Student Timetables Useful
Links section.
Alternatively, you can scroll down the Select Week(s) box on
any OnTime View Timetable section and it will display the
start date of your chosen week number(s) as shown in Figure
4 below:

1.2 Module Timetables
Modules are the individual assessed units studied by students
(e.g. ‘Key Skills in Psychology’ MPSMD1KSP). The timetable
will show the times and dates associated with the selected
module(s).
Filter by Department
The Department filter allows the list of modules to be
restricted to a chosen Department/School. It is recommended
to use this filter as it greatly reduces the number of modules
listed in the Select Module(s) box underneath.
Select Module(s)
It is possible to select multiple modules by clicking on them
and simultaneously holding down the Ctrl key.
Select Sort Order
The default sort order for this information is the Module
Code. However, you can switch to Module Description Order
by clicking on the relevant radio button, which will display the
modules in alphabetical order.

1.4 Room Timetables
This is the default OnTime timetable view. It is a useful view if
you would like to check the availability of a room (or rooms)
prior to requesting it via OnTime. For example, the group study
rooms in Augustine House are in high demand, so it is
recommended to check their availability prior to booking.
Filter by Building
Use the dropdown list to filter the list of rooms by building or
campus (e.g. Broadstairs Campus, Augustine House etc.). It is
recommended to use this filter as it greatly reduces the
number of rooms listed in the Select Room(s) box underneath.
Select Room(s)
Scroll to a room and click on it to highlight it (hold down the
Ctrl key at the same time for multiple selections – this is
useful if booking the Augustine House group study
rooms).

2. Print Style
It is possible to choose from 3 styles for viewing and printing
your timetable information.

2.1 Grid
The Grid print style displays 30 minute time slots as columns
and days of the week as rows (see Figure 5).
Figure 5
Sessions appear as grey blocks stretched over the relevant time
slots as shown in Figure 4 above. Each block contains the
details of the session as shown below in Figure 6:

NB: Clicking on the Room number link will take you to the
room inventory pages (where available) where you can find
more information about the room, such the name of the

A combined style timetable
may exceed the available page
space when printing. One
solution is to restrict the scope
of the timetable to a single
day at a time.
2.2 Combined
The Combined print style allows multiple sessions to be
viewed side by side for a number of programmes (or modules,
rooms, staff members etc.).

Click on the Print Timetable link to print and a printer dialogue
box will appear in order for you to select the appropriate
printer. Click on Close Window when done.
2.3 Activity Report
The Activity Report displays a tabulated timetable based on a
room, staff member, module, programme, etc.

box will appear in order for you to select the appropriate
