Mr. P. N. Devarajan

The Centre for Social Initiative and Management (CSIM), which is a program of Manava Seva

Dharma Samvardhani, believes that the power of individuals can make a difference.

In an era of specialization, even the act of helping people has to be professionalized,

channelised and rationalized. Therefore, tackling disadvantages by equipping people with

understanding and skills is needed to transform local communities and National Economies.

The mission of CSIM is to empower people with Social Change ideas and to create learning

opportunities for starting mission – based, structured and impacting social work

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:

Centre for Social Initiative & Management efforts have been continuous and persistent to

ensure that the students get the best of exposure and knowledge for them to handle their

existing business or start new one with more confidence

This was a new initiative for CSIM-Hyderabad, wherein the students were taken to rural areas to

connect with the Rural Communities and understand the action of a Social Entrepreneurship

initiative of one of the CSIM alumni

The operations can be categorized as following:-

exercises, Role plays etc

2. Connecting with more real-time and practicing Social Entrepreneurs for the students to

get a holistic view that would help to understand the practicalities

3. Collaborative work through facilitation and participation in knowledge forums to

understand the significant role that CSIM could play in Education and Rural areas

4. To ensure quality education reaches students CSIM has gone a step ahead and got into

strategic alliance with training Institutes to provide training to the teachers

5. Under the objective of outreach programs, CSIM got collaboration with renowned

Institutes to provide short-term certification courses at college campuses

6. Continuing work on childline initiatives through frequent awareness programs on and off

the field

1. INTRODUCTION:

Social Entrepreneurship can come in many forms, creating products and services that improve consumer safety, offer environmentally friendly goods or services and contribute to poverty alleviation and other worthwhile initiatives. Many of these ventures are valuable to the economy and society in general.

According to much BoP literature, a BoP venture is a revenue-generating enterprise that sells goods to, or sources products from, people at the "base of the pyramid" in order to improve their standard of living. Some observers have refined the definition as revenue-generating enterprises that directly create "social value" for BoP communities through a product or service. Recent studies go so far as to exclude companies that sell non-essential items to BoP communities.

NGO Management & Social Entrepreneurship summary

The content rich program of NGO Management and Social Entrepreneurship Certificate course

and PG Diploma in Social Initiatives and Management course were appreciated by the

participants and they have all opined that the learning have added value to the their

performance in the Social work. A fundamental disconnect that prevents hundreds of highly

passionate students and professionals in Social work to attend social work schools was bridged

by these courses as most of the classes are handled by practitioners of the issue, it facilitates

widening the knowledge and competency of the participants. The diverse focus area and type

of the participants provided an eclectic mix of ideas and also provided room for classroom

training. Keeping in view the resource constraints as well as the lean staff support, the program

has found a unique place for itself in the learning community.

It was a good experience to interact with a diversity of inquisitive audience.

It would help if the audience (in future) esp the students were more participative. Care must be taken to bring in the right youth with a mindset for entrepreneurship & action oriented development motivated to seriously commit their time and resources to making change possible and in a way that they can sustain and reap retrns for themselves as well as to the community as a whole.

This is not a thing that can be taken up as hobby, or spare time work- this is something that came out many times over and bothered me,this was during the Q & A.

Mural Krishna - IKYA Technovations

It was an enterprising effort of CSIM to initiate a common platform of entrepreneurs, doctorates and students to address a common cause through the SILIA conference. We were in admiration with all the knowledge and information that was shared with us by the respected speakers.

We thank CSIM to provide us a platform to showcase our innovations, and talk about ourselves to other participants.

Dr. Sai Bhaskar Nakka

Thank you for the opportunity to participate in SILIA. The importance of an event is based on

what happens after that. Yes, many of us are continuing our discussions and taking bold steps

in achieving common goals. Please create an egroup to continue our discussions on this

aspect. Probably there could be SOCIAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP FELLOWSHIPS initiated.

TESTIMONIALS

Praveen Kumar: By joining CSIM I learned doing good by doing well, i.e. Service to the Needy and Sustainability to the Institutions. Praveen Kumar. R - Team LED www.ledfoundation.in

Naval Saini

CSIM has helped me meet individuals with similar mindsets, diverging skill-sets and good

networks. I have mostly (about 50% times) relied on people I connected via CSIM, to make my

social entrepreneurship dream ( www.ededaa.com) a reality.

13

Ram Mohan Katla

Rural Entrepreneur & Founder, Green Umbrella Agro Enterprises

It has certainly been an enriching experience to undergo the course of SEOP at CSIM. The course has helped me in honing schools for graduating from an Entrepreneur to be a Social Entrepreneur, that helped me in getting clarity in my approach and also help in getting the right network.

CSIM has also been kind enough to take Batch-16 to my Rural Innovation Centre during the energy conservation week. The interaction by the members with my team at Ghanpur was an enriching experience

CSIM has also given an opportunity for me to conduct an event that has given a great deal of satisfaction for giving back to this esteemed Institute in my own little way.

Shipra Krishna Founder, Aaahan Foundation

It was a great learning experience to be. My thoughts were put in perspective and gave a clear indication on drawing clarity in my vision and goals to scale-up my operations in order to benefit more students.

Kamal Kishore Software Professional, ORACLE.

With the kind of inspiration I got through the learning experience I started involving myself in Socially conscious activities more frequently. With the knowledge and exposure I got while pursuing the course, with this I can start my own initiative with more confidence

Nidarshana Saikia Das Software Professional with Microsoft India Limited

The course has helped me develop a strategic approach towards community service and

convinced me of the importance of collaboration and sustainability. What makes the course

most interesting and effective is it doesn‟t have text books. Yes, CSIM instead believes in giving

students a „hands-on‟. It invites guest faculty to deliver sessions on the subjects of their interest

and expertise. I must have had a dozen “eureka” moments while listening to their initiatives,

journeys, successes, even their failures and their spring-back strategies. Although we are

14

mailed all the PPTs and documents, they remain just for the records – the priceless lessons are

internalized right there during the class. The students themselves bring in varied experiences to

the table and you get to learn just as much from them as from the faculty. CSIM is a great

meeting ground of the like-minded. I do not know of any other course which is as effective, has

comfortable timings and is as easy on the wallet. I highly recommend CSIM to everybody with a

thing for philanthropy.
