Hall of Pillars

• There are 40 pillars in this room just below the capital dome and function as the main support for the feature

• In the center of the room is a tomb dedicated to George Washington, however his remains are located at the family home at Mount Vernon

The Dome

• Made entirely of cast iron, the art work at the top of the dome is the Apotheosis of Washington or his ascension to heaven and becoming a God himself.

• What’s amazing about Washington is that after having lead the Colonies to victory over Britain, he was offered pretty much anything he wanted including control of this new land… Washington declined!

• Was the old Senate wing, however, due to poor acoustics, the room is now dedicated to statues which are continually being added and swapped by states that wish to contribute

Summary

• D.C. is an amazing city and experience• It was my first time there and will definitely not be my

last• The tour guides were knowledgeable and open to any

and all questions• The accommodations were great and the entire trip

from start to finish was extremely organized• Any facts that were in this presentation I actually

learned from attending this trip, so to say the least, it’s a learning experience that will stick with you
