DAYTON, OHIO 45469 (513) 229-2911

DAYTON, Ohio, July 16, 1975 --- The smell of popcorn will be in the air when

the University of Dayton Theatre Division stages its second Popcorn Playhouse

production !fA Thurber Carnival,1T from July 23rd to July 27th. Based on the

cartoons, short stories and essays of Columbus-born Jrumes Thurber, the play is a

review of Thurber sketches with music.

The twelve members of the cast, whieh draws from the Dayton community, play

multiple roles throughout the review. Sketches range from "Memorial to a Dog" to

the "Last Flower", including an introduction to the immortal Walter Mitty and his

secret life. With his dry wit and his basic knowledge of human nature, Thurber's

humor is evident throughout the production.

The play is the result of a four-week theatre workshop in which the cast and

backstage crew received college credits and theatre experience. This workshop is

one aspect of the Popcorn Playhouse, a new and unique outdoor theatre experience

for the Dayton community.

Tickets for "A Thurber Carnival" are $2.00 and are available by calling
