... 2016/17 at KEVICC King Edward VI Community College A summer round-up Collaboration with Dartington Deer Park ProjeCt Working on the arrowhead project, set up with help from Dartington, has been a real focus in Design & Technology this term. Arrowheads have now been cast in pewter, using silicone moulds made using 3D print. Later, they'll be used in action! PreParing for SPortS Day! We are very proud of the Year 7 Food Preparation & Nutrition class who raised money via a cake sale at KEVICC to buy food to give to the homeless in Totnes. They baked brownies, cookies and mini pizzas to sell to staff and students and, with the money raised, they were able to purchase food to make up bags – which included flapjacks, brownies & cookies made by the students – to be delivered in the community through the Marketplace Ministries Drop-In Centre in Totnes. Their teacher said, The students were amazing. They developed so many skills – not just cooking, but food hygiene; business skills, producing products for sale; batch production; marketing skills – plus working together as a team for such a worthwhile cause. Sports Day in July had perfect weather and was a very happy occasion, making the hours and hours of practice all worthwhile ... Holly Bennett, Arthur White and William Spooner all presented innovative design concepts and won regional awards for their products in the categories of innovation, communication and commercial viability. 3 students FIVE prizes! A STEM event: science, technology, engineering, maths Science and Technology Week proved to be an explosive occasion! Students were challenged to identify everyday items blown up 50 times,in a bid to win their very own digital microscope! The biology was strong & stomachs stronger in the dissection demonstration.Balloons were popped, hydrogen was banged, fire was made to dance all in the name of Science!
