Need of the project Interview skills play a vital role in the job search process of
students. Technical skills have to be supported with the interview based techniques to clear the job interviews. Among the engineering students, group discussion skills, interview facing ability and communication skills enhance their chance to get selected in top notch companies.
The need of the study is to understand the training needs of engineering students in Chennai.
This study will create awareness among the college management about the present employability level of their students and to take sufficient action to improve the placements during the interview process.
It also sends an alert message to the engineering students to be well prepared for the job interviews.
This study is necessary to identify the specific training requirements of students thereby preparing them for the campus interviews.
ObjectivePrimary 0jective The primary objective is to conduct a study on interview
skill needs among the engineering students .
Secondary objective To indentify the job expectations of the engineering
students. To assess the interview facing ability of the engineering
students. To assess the GD skill needs of engineering students. To assess the Communication skill needs of engineering
students.
Research MethodologyDescriptive research: In descriptive research, the researcher presents
a description of the state of affairs as it exists at present. The researcher can present only what has happened or what is happening. The variables remain beyond his\her control. The descriptive study is undertaken in order to ascertain and be able to describe the characteristics of the variables of interest in a situation.
Samplesizethe sample size of my project is 100.
Sampling methodthe sampling method of my project is simple random sampling.
Data collectionTypes of data:Primary data
closed end ,multiple chioce,dichotomous
questions. Secondary data websites.
LimitationsThe main limitation of the study is the relatively lesser
number of respondents as compared to the population.The duration of the study has been limited with which
the researcher cannot go in depth of the studySome respondents hesitated to give the actual
situation .they feared that management would take any action against them.
The study was restricted to the engineering students of 10 colleges in Chennai.
Only the engineering students of ECE, EEE, CSE and IT departments are taken into study.
Findings In this survey 61% students are male and 39% are
female.68% students are saying that will go for the job
after completing engineering.57% want to get placed in IT industry.48% students are expecting above 35000 salary per
month.65% students are already trained to face interviews.Only 6% of students are having very high
confidence in facing interviews.
Contd.Only 7% of students can brief themselves about 5
minutes.Only 11% of students having very high confidence
level in facing group dicussion.Only 7% of students having very high confidence in
level in communication skill .79% expect their college to conduct a special job
skill training programme.81% of students want one-to-one career counselling51% of students require all the GD,
aptitude,interview facing skills.
Suggestions and Recommendations
Training going to be given to students need to be improved by considering the current requirements because already most of the students have undergone some training which didn’t give confidence to that students.
The company has to develop the training programme in all the interview training processes effectively.
The suggestions by the students during the training programme can be taken into consideration to increase the effectiveness of the training programs.
The company can award the best students, so that the other students in the colleges will be motivated.
ConclusionA study on the interview skill needs among
engineering students brought out various information about the training needs of the students like group discussion,communication skills,interview facing skills
Using this survey the researcher could identify the training modules to be conducted in the colleges to make the students employable.
By this research, the objective of the project has been achieved successfully by applying various methodologies. As an outcome, a clear inference and suggestions have been contributed so as to make this study a future reference.
