A Story to Tell Dec 2015 – April 2016
The City of South Perth is currently seeking Expressions of Interest (EOI’s) from partners who would like
to be part of the City of South Perth arts and events programme occurring from December 2015 – April
2016.
programme & promotion Activities selected for inclusion are promoted in this annual programme throughout December to April.
The programme is printed and delivered to all residents across the City of South Perth and throughout
the Perth metro area. The programme is also available on our website and promoted via our social
media outlets. The programme will feature the City’s two largest iconic events, the South Perth Fiesta
and Australia Day Celebration Zone. These two iconic events will also host additional marketing and
promotion campaigns distributed separately from the programme information.
the theme All events, visual or performance art, ephemeral public art or ac/vi/es selected for inclusion in this
programme will be curated to the theme ’A Story to Tell’. The theme can be interpreted however it
suits, but it must be represented in your submission and evident in your activity.
the festival - FIESTA The City of South Perth’s FIESTA is an annual fes/val held over three weeks in March each year
a1rac/ng up to 60,000 people. FIESTA’s 22 year tradi/on is cemented in the community as an iconic
feature of the area. Ac/vi/es occurring during the fes/val period of 5 March – 19 March 2016 will
receive addi/onal promo/onal support. You may also choose to partner your ac/vity with one of the
main fes/val anchor events, the Fiesta Concert or the Angelo Street Marketplace.

seeking The City is seeking involvement from mul/ple types of partners:
Event Organisers / Commercial Partners
Commercial or non-for-profit event organisers are encouraged to get in touch with us. If you feel your
event or ac/vity can be tailored to suit the theme of ’A Story to Tell’ and are hoping to host an event in
the City of South Perth, we encourage you to submit an EOI. Your event will a1ract further promo/on by
being a part of the City’s five-month campaign and if included during FIESTA will a1ract further
promo/on. Furthermore, we may be able to assist with reserve hire or other venue arrangements. The
City has successfully partnered with event organisers and other commercial operators such as;
• Waterford Plaza – Waterford Plaza Street Fes/val
• Perth Interna/onal Arts Fes/val – Fes/val films and others
• Perth Food Van Group – South Perth StrEATS
• Bar Pop – South Perth Lounge

In 2016 we will con/nue to support community-run events by encouraging community groups,
businesses and local organisa/ons to run events within the City of South Perth. The City is seeking events
and ac/vi/es that are unique, inclusive, well planned and/or best support the 2015/16 theme. The City
has successfully partnered with a range of businesses and community groups such as:
• Disc Golf Park Australia – Discover Disc Golf
• Parent & Ci/zen Associa/ons of Como and South Perth Primary Schools – Nurturing Kids’ Hearts
and Souls Parent Educa/on Seminar with Maggie Dent
• Liquor Barons on Angelo – The Devil’s Lair Wine Masterclass
• St Mary’s Church – A Schuber/ade
Musicians and Performing Ar!sts
The City of South Perth con/nues to support the arts by encouraging performing ar/sts to perform at
our events or to host their own experience. The City is seeking performing ar/sts to either perform at
one of the FIESTA anchor events, or host their own ac/vity which will be promoted as part of the City’s
programme. The City is seeking EOI’s that showcase talent, are crea/ve, unique and/or best support the
2015/16 theme. The experience can be in the form of;
• Live Music / Live theatre /Comedy / other live performance
• Stage performance at a FIESTA anchor event
• Workshop or other crea/ve project
The City has successfully partnered with a range performing ar/sts and groups such as:
• WAM – Various musicians at the Angelo Street Marketplace
• Melbourne Interna/onal Comedy Fes/val – Deadly Funny
Visual Ar!sts & Ephemeral Public Art
Ar/sts are encouraged to be crea/ve with the theme and explore concepts relevant to their own current
prac/ce. The City will provide support for small-scale projects as well as large-scale ephemeral public
art. The City is seeking EOI’s that are crea/ve, unique and best support the 2015/16 theme. Arts
ac/vi/es can be in the form of:
• Large scale ephemeral public art – must be on display for a minimum period of 5 days
• Small scale sculpture or ephemeral public art
• Workshop or ar/s/c seminar
• Ar/st in residence – must determine venue
• Other types of performance art or crea/ve project

our support Depending on the submission, the City may provide funding or in-kind support for your ac/vity. As a
guide the City is willing to offer the below support for the various partnership categories.

• Uniqueness of concept
• Relevance to theme of ‘A story to tell’
• Level of engagement with the community
• Audience impact or visual presence (visual ar/sts)
• Ar/s/c experience (visual ar/sts)
• Value for money
• Benefit to the area and/or the community
• Autonomy of the ac/vity (can this be self-run without City support?)
A panel will determine the final submissions. The City reserves the right to accept or refuse applica/ons
and all decisions are final.
what to submit At the ini/al stage, the City is only seeking a completed EOI Form that provides minimum detail and a
descrip/on of your ac/vity. Ar/sts are to also submit the following:
• Drawings and/or suppor/ng documenta/on or examples detailing the concept.
• Those wishing to be considered for a large-scale ephemeral public artwork must also submit a
copy of your CV.
If successful, we will then require you to submit the following:
• All final details including date, /me, dura/on, loca/on, cost, /cketed/un-/cketed etc.
• Up to two photographs for use in the programme
• Up to 70 words describing the ac/vity for promo/onal use

• Up to $3,000 in support of an original event, ac/vity or workshop
Visual Ar/sts
• Venue and/or event to host the experience
• Standard equipment such as marquee/s, tables and chairs,
power access etc. (if at an event)
• Volunteers or security to assist
• Up to $3,000 support for small ini/a/ves
• Up to $12,000 for one large-scale ephemeral public art on
display for a minimum of 5 consecu/ve days.
• In-kind support available for assistance with any permits, venue
hire arrangements or other procedural requirements
• A copy of your Public Liability Insurance cer/ficate that provides cover for the intended ac/vity
• (Ar/sts Only) Breakdown of budget or itemised costs i.e. materials, fabrica/on and ar/sts' /me
• (Performing Ar/sts only) Your performance fee
considerations Target Market Aim to ensure the experience is as inclusive as possible, appealing to a broad
demographic of children, adults, people with disabili/es etc. If hos/ng an interac/ve
ac/vity and elements are not suited to certain types of people or ages, ensure this is
communicated in the EOI. This won’t necessarily hinder the selec/on.
Venue and
Loca!on
Ensure you iden/fy the type of venue best suited to your concept. If you are
interested in hos/ng something in conjunc/on with an anchor event, please note
that these are situated outdoors. There are also a variety of walls, laneways and
unused spaces that you may wish to ac/vate. The City may be able to nego/ate the
use of these spaces on your behalf. If you have an event or ac/vity in mind, but may
not have a venue space, contact us to discuss your ideas.
All ac/vi/es must occur within the City of South Perth.

Please consider any addi/onal requirements and ensure that these are
communicated with your submission.
Insurance If your EOI is successful, you will be required to provide us with a copy of your Public
Liability Insurance cer/ficate relevant to the ac/vity.
Ar!sts • Consider the use of materials and removal of materials and their suitability to
the preferred venue.
• Large scale public art submissions should be suited to an outdoor
environment and venue suitability of artwork should be considered.
• Artist/s will be responsible for the installation and de-installation of works.
• The artist is responsible for all aspects of maintaining the artwork throughout
the duration of the project.
• The artwork may be mobile, a work which moves to different locations, or an
artwork which is made of elements in separate locations.
Acqui"al All partners will be expected to complete the City’s post event survey.
