Doctors: To enhance the transfer of clinical research information of import to the potential improvement of patient care.

To enhance communications among international colleagues (medical and allied health) regarding diagnoses and teatment.

To assess the ability in the required language skills of allied health personnel to work in other counties especially those in the European Union.

To rapidly access and extract essential information from the international literature (printed and electronic).

To able to write papers that will be accepted in internationally recognised publications.

To make competent presentations (oral, poster, proceedings, etc.) at domestic and international meetings.

To promote international implementation of collaboration in order to meet the objectives of the European Commission.

To contribute to the accurate assessment of proficiency in English for Medical Purposes of medical professionals and students by means of creating an international standardised assessment system based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, and other relevant international guidelines.

II. AIM AND OBJECTIVES

a) To investigate international situation of education for English for Medical Purposes.

b) To establish common international goals for education in English for Medical Purposes.

c) To produce a standardised system of assessing competence in English for Medical Purposes in accordance with the guidelines of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, and other relevant international guidelines.

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES:

a) Medical doctors, nurses, and all other allied health professional staff.

d) Test specifications to be used as a basis for the production of a Common European Framework of Reference for EMP.

e) Dissemination of the standardised curriculum.

f) Dissemination of the standardised assessment system.

g) Internet-based dissemination of the project and the results.
