Greetings!

I just wanted to let all of you know that I am thinking about you and keeping you in my Mass prayers. I know that

Easter was a strange experience for all of us: how we celebrated or didn’t celebrate. The core of our faith has not

changed. The institution of the Eucharist and the call to serve were there. On Friday, we reflected on God’s love and

mercy for us. Christ giving himself up to death for our sins so that we can live with Him. Yes, we celebrate the Empty

Tomb. Jesus has overcome all the darkness in our lives. Christ has promised us brighter days are coming and will

come. We continue to hold each other in our hearts, thoughts and prayers. The day will come when we can be

together and celebrate. That will truly be a glorious day. We will say Alleluia to our God together once again.

For now, Fr. John

In such uncertain times as these, we might find it diffi-cult to not be warped into the anxiety and panic of our current situation amidst COVID 19. However, as we stand in this Easter Season, let us learn to keep our eyes, our hearts and our minds fixed on Jesus, whose Kingdom is forever victorious - and whose Kingdom is not of this world. Let us place our hope in His power. Let us trust in His victory. Let us find our peace in Jesus, and in Jesus alone. Let our faith in Jesus give us confidence that His love truly will overcome all evil.

— Megan Lemon

A WORD OF ENCOURAGEMENT

"My Kingdom is not of this world," Jesus said to Pilate as Jesus was on trial.

WE REMEMBER Please keep the family of parishioner Dennis Masuga in your prayers. Dennis passed away on Wednesday, April 15th.

APPALACHIA MISSION 2020 We were notified this week that the camp that normally

hosts us during our trip will be closed through June and

therefore not available for our 2020 Mission Trip dates.

We are considering alternatives that include perhaps local

mission work in the Pittsburgh area later in the summer.

Stay tuned for updates in the next

week or so.

BELLEVUE FARMERS MARKET MEAL PROGRAM

Over the past month, we have opened the kitchen at

Assumption Parish to our friends from the Bellevue

Farmer’s Market to allow them to deliver over 2000

meals per week in the surrounding areas. Volunteers from all three parishes in

our grouping have helped to cook, pack and deliver meals. If you are healthy

and not in an at-risk group and would like to help, you can go to: https://

www.signupgenius.com/go/bfmsignup to volunteer and/or donate.

DO YOU NEED TO HAVE MEALS DELIVERED? http://bit.ly/bfmmeals

MYRIAM’S SHELTER / BETHLEHEM HAVEN

Thanks to the effort of a great team of volunteers headed by

Laurie Reese and Ceil Atwater, we have doubled our efforts to

support Myriam’s and make up for some other organizations

that have withdrawn their support. We are currently

providing dinner for about 50 people every other week to

support this program.

AMEN, I SAY TO YOU, WHATEVER YOU DID FOR ONE OF

THESE LEAST BROTHERS OF MINE, YOU DID FOR ME. MATTHEW 25:40

SAFE FAMILIES

Will you help

keep families

safe?

Our grouping supports Safe Families PGH to provide resources

to families in crisis through Family Friends who help provide

material resources to Host Families who temporarily welcome

children into their homes to support parents taking essential

steps to stability.

Families in tentative situations are facing additional financial

struggles, fear and anxiety. There’s an expected increase in

child and domestic abuse. The Church has long served issues

like this and the opportunity is before us NOW.

For more information on becoming part of this ministry,

contact [email protected]. Thank you….

CALL ‘EM ALL

We have begun, with a handful of staff members and volunteers to begin to

reach out to all of our parishioners and check-in with them.

Our lists of phone numbers is not 100% complete and we are just getting

started, but if you are interested, we would love to have your help. You can call

two people or twenty or anywhere in between.

If you are interested in joining us in this effort to stay connected, you can email

Lale Virostek at [email protected] .

SHOPPING ANYONE? If you are willing and able to do some grocery shopping for someone in need (at-

risk individuals who have been asked to remain at home), please call Thomas

Tresky at (412) 874-1694 to volunteer.

A REFLECTION By Jessica Bucci

My dear church family,

I miss seeing you all on the weekends—whenever I watch mass online or

play music at home, I am praying for you and imagine us worshipping to-

gether. When I’m playing at home I especially enjoy going through the

psalms. One that keeps going through my

mind is from Psalm 130, Out of the Depths.

(Don’t worry, this is still a bit of encourage-

ment from me, even though I’m mention-

ing the depths!) “Help, God—the bottom

has fallen out of my life! God, hear my cry

for help!” Just a little drama coming from

the writer... We might be wondering,

when will this end? Lord, are you listening?

“I pray to God—my life a prayer—and wait

for what God will say and do.” Deep

breath. The Psalmist is our inner voice, saying, “My soul is waiting for you,

God. I am waiting and watching till morning. Yes, waiting and watching till

morning.”

Wait and watch for the morning. God is intricately working in each of our

lives, healing where we need healed and being with us in this difficult

time.

I am waiting and watching until we are together again. Until then, you can

check out the music selections that choir members and I have put togeth-

er for you at: https://bellworthparkcc.org/recorded-music

WITH LOVE, JESSICA BUCCI

SALT AND LIGHT

John Carr, the founder and director of the Initiative on

Catholic Social Thought and Public Life of Georgetown

University, will suggest how the message of Pope Francis

and principles of Catholic Social Teaching can guide faithful

responses to a global pandemic and economic collapse in

the wake of the clergy sexual abuse crisis.

DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY, APRIL 19, 2020 5

STAFF PICKS

Pick: Mark Hart – Our Story: A Basic Introduction to the Bible for

Catholics.

Many times I endeavored to read the Bible front to back – always

got stuck in Leviticus or Numbers. No such worries here. Mark Hart

takes you through the entire Bible in a series of 5 minute videos

that are easy to understand. This time of year, I particularly like the

Acts of the Apostles. – Gary Fritsch

Pick: Fr. Michael Gaitley – Divine Mercy.

This Sunday is Divine Mercy Sunday. In preparation for this feast, I

have been watching the video series on FORMED led by Fr. Michael

Gaitley on Divine Mercy. It is very well done, and I’ve learned a lot!

I have found the message St. Faustina gave to us: “JESUS, I TRUST IN

YOU” to be the perfect message for me during these uncertain

times. — Kelly Reed

Pick: Restless Heart

I loved "Restless Heart" following the life of St. Augustine. Inspiring

and amazingly parallel to many choices in modern society despite

the fact that it took place hundreds, almost thousands, of years

ago. — Mary Vic Taylor

RCIA: MYSTAGOGY—For our candidates, the Easter Vigil

is only the beginning of a commitment to a lifelong

process of conversion and living out of the Christian

message. It is a period of time to gain a deeper

understanding of God’s word, the sacraments and what

the commitment to the Catholic Church means for your

life. In the early Church, the community used the fifty

days from Easter to Pentecost to continue to pray with

and explore Catholic Christianity with a redirected

focus—from learning to living. Our candidates for full

communion with the Church have not yet been

received. We hope and pray that they will be able to

join us as full members of the Catholic Church by

Pentecost and be able to participate fully in the life of

the parish so that their faith may continue to be

nourished and that the faith of the community may be

enhanced by the witness of our newest members.

Please keep Janice, Kathrin, Megan, Kyle and Alexandra in your

prayers.

And if you or someone you know has been touched by the witness of

our faith community during this Lenten season, please invite them to

“Come and See.” Please call the parish office for more information

about the RCIA process.

SACRAMENTAL INFORMATION Mass Times

See page 2 for online Mass times or visit https://bellworthparkcc.org/mass-times.

Reconciliation

The celebration of the Sacrament of Reconciliation is suspended in all its forms: in church

buildings, outside of church buildings, in parking lots, etc. When the ban is lifted,

confessions will resume.

Adoration Times

Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament is suspended until further notice.

Matrimony

All weddings scheduled in the Diocese of Pittsburgh are postponed until further notice.

Churches will hold the date of the scheduled wedding, although whether or not the

sacrament can be celebrated on that date will depend entirely on whether the restrictions

have been lifted.

Baptisms

The celebration of Baptisms is delayed until the Church is able to celebrate the sacraments

publicly once more. If an unbaptized person wishes to be baptized and is in danger of

death, any person may baptize.

Christian Initiation

Our current candidates for full communion will be received at a future date. If you would

like to join the Catholic Church, please contact a parish office above.

Confirmation

The Bishop announced this week that Confirmations scheduled through May are being

postponed until restrictions are lifted. Please pray for our candidates!

Anointing of the Sick and Communion Calls

The celebration of the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick is suspended unless it is the most

grave of circumstances. At that moment, the priest may receive the confession of the

person to be anointed and grant absolution as indicated in the Rite. If the affected person

is able to receive, he may administer Viaticum.

Funerals

No Funeral Masses or services can be scheduled. Provisions are to be made for the

celebration of Memorial Masses after the virus subsides. In the interim, priests are to

remember the dead in their private Masses and their prayer intentions and to share that

information with the family of the deceased as a source of consolation.

First Sacraments

First Reconciliation must be received before First Communion and will be scheduled as

soon as we are able according to the diocesan guidelines.

P R A YPray

the Rosary

O Mary, you shine continuously on our journey as a sign of salvation and hope.

We entrust ourselves to you, Health of the Sick.At the foot of the Cross you participated in Jesus’ pain,

with steadfast faith. You, Salvation of the Roman People, know what we need.

We are certain that you will provide, so that,as you did at Cana of Galilee,

joy and feasting might return after this moment of trial.Help us, Mother of Divine Love,

to conform ourselves to the Father’s willand to do what Jesus tells us:

He who took our sufferings upon Himself, and bore our sorrows to bring us,

through the Cross, to the joy of the Resurrection. Amen.We seek refuge under your protection, O Holy Mother of God.

Do not despise our pleas – we who are put to the test – and deliver us from every danger, O glorious and blessed Virgin.
