Subsequently research by Drs. William Kauffman,Abram Hoffer and Humphrey Osmun disclosed thatsome people can suffer deficiencies of vitamin B3which far exceed the milligram amounts specified inthe recommended daily allowances (RDAs) of the Foodand Nutrition Board of the National Academy ofSciences. Deprived of the amounts that their bodiesrequire, these people also suffer mental illnesses andmany of them are badly treated in our society.Early last century Kauffman found that there were

many people who suffered from arthritis and associatedmental diseases who could be helped with a few hun-dreds milligrams per day of niacinamide. He recom-mended taking the vitamin every three hours because,being water soluble, it does not remain in the body verylong.Still later Drs. Abram Hoffer and Humphrey Osmun

found that schizophrenia, a serious disease of percep-tion, could be cured by still larger amounts of vitamin

B3. They hypothesized that the disease was caused byformation of compounds similar to LSD via an abnor-mal oxidation of brain chemicals. They believed thatvitamin B3 could correct the abnormal reaction and, byexperiment, they obtained evidence that it could.They poured a solution containing vitamin C and

vitamin B3 through a stomach tube into a comatosemental patient, who was dying. The day after the exper-iment, the patient was able to drink the same solution byhimself. A few months later he was discharged as cured.Subsequently they conducted the first double blind

study in the history of psychiatry to demonstrate thepracticality of their discovery. It was successful, show-ing that more than 75 percent of schizophrenic patientscould be helped if treated early enough in the course ofthe disease with supplements plus usual psychiatrictreatments. Five more double-blind studies confirmedthe findings of the first one. Subsequently Hoffer con-verted over 5,000 such patients into taxpaying citizens.Hoffer, now deceased, believed that schizophrenia is

a variety of pellagra caused by lack of large amounts ofvitamin D.. He claimed that schizophrenics were pella-grins. In other words, schizophrenics have a deficiencydisease which requires not milligrams but sometimes agreat many grams per day of the vitamin. He mentionsa woman who was taking 60 grams a day of the vitaminin order to remain mentally normal in one of his books.Everybody needs to ingest over 40 different nutri-

ments every day for optimal health. The RDAs aredesigned to protect averageAmericans from deficiencydiseases. But, just as no two Americans have the samefingerprints, and one size shoe doesn’t fit everyone,requirements vary widely. Ignorance of this fact canhave costly consequences.The federal government’s mandated addition of mil-

ligrams of niacinamide to bread was successful. It didnot cost much, and it worked. Pellagra experienced acentury ago is now a rare disease.Hoffer believed that if everyone took one gram per

day of vitamin B3 there would be very few people ininsane asylums. Schizophrenia and bi-polar diseasecould become rare. Niacinamide is not expensive andnot poisonous. It would not cost much to give this ideaa try. (The RDA of niacin ranges from 2 to 18 mg/day.)If it worked, lots of people would benefit and health

care costs would be reduced by billions of dollars ayear. �____

Niacin Deficiency Blamed for Range of Illnesses

For nearly three decades, the medical-industri-al-banking lobby has been pushing chemicalsto help those with chronic cardiovascularproblems. A recent study, however, shows

that there is a cheaper, safer alternative for many peo-ple—niacin.According to published reports, niacin, or vitamin

B3, is one of the oldest treatments for such things ascholesterol and high blood pressure. Since the 1950s,doctors have been recommending that their patientstake it daily to help improve their cardiovascular sys-tems.However, the advent of statins in the late 1980s

changed everything. Big drug makers converged ondoctors offices, encouraging those on the frontlines topush a new brand of miracle drugs, the most famousbeing Lipitor.It was soon discovered that, for many, there were

serious consequences for taking these so-called mira-cle drugs. The laundry list of negative side effectsincluded random muscle pains, full-body rashes, diar-rhea, constipation, memory loss and sexual dysfunc-tion. Those who took the drugs for years looked for-ward to kidney and liver damage. Researchers nowbelieve they have even found a direct link betweenstatins and Lou Gehrig’s disease, a progressive neuro-logical disorder where nerves in the brain and centralnervous system are slowly destroyed.Last year, a study was completed that looked at

statins versus niacin. The findings, which were pub-lished in a respected medical journal that focuses oncardiovascular health, found that taking niacin alonesignificantly reduced levels of triglyceride and bad

cholesterol (LDLs), while raising what is known asgood cholesterol (HDLs). And for those who had totake statins, the combination of niacin plus the drugwent far beyond any improvements from taking thepharmaceuticals by themselves.Taken at doses of one to two grams, niacin can be

a heart-healthy way to improve one’s health withoutthe nasty effects that come with Lipitor.Be forewarned though: Anyone who is just starting

out on niacin should know that the vitamin does causewhat can only be described as bizarre sensations.Described as “flushing” by some, to this writer, thesymptoms of a therapeutic dose of niacin included hotflashes, tingling in arms and legs and an elevatedpulse. Eventually, these effects go away, but it’s worthmentioning so people do not confuse the effects withsomething more severe. Of course, anyone experienc-ing serious side effects or other debilitating conditionsshould always consult with his doctor before startinga new treatment.Those who find they cannot get over the strange

feelings associated with B3 can get a niacin prescrip-tion, which is made in laboratories to release overtime and minimize bad feelings.On the other hand, well-known health educator Dr.

Joseph Mercola recommends a form of B3 calledniacin hexanicinate that minimizes any flushing ornegative feelings associated with the vitamin. �

Are they really inter-ested in food safety or in controlling the market?

In the same email, Ms. Dannemann included a reporton a study dealing with a pesticide spray that showednano-particles to seriously worsen the toxicity of thepesticides by inhibiting the important cholinesteraseenzyme.From the abstract of a paper written by Dr. Hildegard

Staniger we learn: “The integration of nano particulatesin various nano composite materials, such as aerialhydrogels and other similar materials used in aerial vec-tor sprays (mosquito control), weather modification andsensor grids, resulted in the individual having as high as96.2 percent cholinesterase inhibition and detectablereadings of nano composite material present.”This confirmed an earlier finding from China that in

chemical sensitivities nano particles are 100 times moretoxic than a single molecule of common pesticides suchas malathion, propoxopur or benomyl.

Inform is the publication of the American OilChemists Society covering the global oil seed industry.

In the October 2009 issue, Inform proudly described theexplosive growth of the nanotech industries.“The number of ‘nanotechnology enabled’consumer

products on the globalmarket has passed the 1,000mark according to the Project on Emerging Nanotech-nologies (PEN). . . .” reported Inform. “If the introduc-tion of new products continues at the present rate, thenumber of new products will reach close to 1,600 with-in the next two years. This will provide significant over-sight challenges for agencies like the FDA andConsumer Product Safety Commission, which oftenlack any mechanisms to identify nanotech productsbefore they enter the marketplace.”There are many more reports on adverse findings

with nano particles and here we go again—biologistsversus lobbyists. In recent tech literature we find biolo-gists coating seeds with carbon nanotubes as a fertiliz-er designed to break the natural protection of the seeds.What’s next, genetically tinkered nano particles? �

tell real-life success stories of chelation therapy. Dr.Elmer Cranton recounts the case of “Judy” in his bookBypassing Bypass Surgery. asked by the two men about the merits of chelation.Having no education on the subject, he replied that thetreatment would burn their kidneys and that, in theiralready weakened state, at worst could kill them and atbest they would just be wasting their money.“I didn’t have any idea what I was talking about,”

Prosch later confessed, “and I was just reciting what Ihad been told in the AMA manuals.”The men knew of a chelation clinic in south

Alabama and said they were going to give it a try any-way. “Go ahead and throw your money away,” Doc toldthem, “see if I care.”Three months later, as Prosch liked to tell it, he was

sitting in his upstairs office in his clinic when he got anintercom call from his head nurse to please come down-stairs. He dropped his paper work and went down to seewhat the problem was. She was standing in front of thedouble doors that opened onto the parking lot. With allthe drama she could muster, she said to him, “Have alook at this,” as she swung the two big doors open.Outside were the two “old codgers,” wearing warm-

up suits and running shoes and jogging on the asphalt.

“It was then that I realized that I had been hood-winked by the American Medical Association again,and I decided to find out the truth,” said Prosch.Prosch researched a little, found a teaching clinic in

Oklahoma, spent a week there and came home to be hisown first patient. He then began to administer the chela-tion treatment that allowed him to build his clinic to thelargest of its kind in the southeast, often seating 50 ormore people daily for the three-hour intravenous drip.With the world we live in today, what we know and

do about chelation therapy may be the most importantmedical step many of us can take.More than six billion pounds of chemical toxins are

released every year inAmerica alone. Arsenic, lead andmercury permeate our air. Aluminum is in our cook-ware. Our foods are laced with cadmium. Mercury is inthe vaccines we give our children. Mark D.Gold’s investigative report The Bitter Truth AboutArtificial Sweeteners explains what makes the flavoringso dangerous.Aspartame is made of aspartic acid (40%), pheny-

lalanine (50%) and methanol (10%). Aspartate is anamino acid and neurotransmitter that carries informa-tion from neuron to neuron. In the book Excitotoxins:The Taste That Kills, Dr. Russel Blaylock documentsthat over time, aspartate concentrates in the brain andslowly stimulates neural cells to death. It kills around

75 percent of neural cells in a specific area beforesymptoms of chronic illness become evident. Memoryloss, Parkinson’s disease, hormonal problems, epilepsy,neuroendocrine disorders result and worsen from long-term aspartic acid consumption. Glutamate (MSG)damages the brain in the same way.Phenylalanine, another amino acid, occurs in the

brain naturally. Ingesting aspartame, especially com-bined with carbohydrates, increases phenylalanine lev-els in the hypothalamus, medulla oblongata and corpusstriatum. This effect mimics the dangerous genetic dis-order phenylketonuria that disrupts phenylalaninemetabolism. In1992, U.S.Air Force’s magazine Flying Safety andNavyPhysiology warned that aspartame made pilots suscep-tible to seizures.Methanol, also known as wood alcohol, is a deadly

poison when ingested in large amounts that excretes

from the body slowly. Instead, it breaks down into thetoxins formic acid and formaldehyde. Symptoms ofmethanol poisoning are headaches, ear buzzing, weak-ness, chills, memory lapses. Dr. Woodrow C. Diketopiperazine (DKP), a byproduct of aspartamemetabolism, also forms in liquid aspartame-containingfoods during storage. Neuroscientist Dr. JohnW. Olneynoticed that when DKP metabolizes in the gut, it pro-duces a compound similar to N-nitrosourea, whichcauses brain tumors.

Also,former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, who wasa CEO of Searle, used his influence in Washington topush for approval of the deadly sugar substitute.Aspartame is in food legally because of ignored

research and revolving doors of employment betweenthe FDA and manufacturers. The sweetener was dis-covered accidentally during testing of an anti-ulcerdrug. Its ingredients are poisons. in the world, only a few make up the genus Apis andare considered true honey bees. As Jefferson noted, noone knows exactly where they came from, but someresearchers contend honey bees originated from onewild species in Asia before moving to parts around theworld, including Europe where the earliest fossilrecords have placed them.Today, a mysterious syndrome, known as colony

collapse disorder, has been killing honey bees in NorthAmerica, sparking great concern among the scientistswho study them. Since 2006, it has become common-place for beekeepers to lose as much as 75 percent oftheir hive in one season. In certain cases, entirecolonies have disappeared with no dead insects to befound anywhere—almost as if the worker bees andqueen became lost and wandered off to parts unknown.This unexplained rampant die-off has beekeepers

scratching their heads. Some call it a syndrome due toa confluence of causes that includes newly identifiedviruses targeting hives, the heavy use of pesticides andherbicides, the regular application of broad-spectrumantibiotics and chemicals—some of which causeblindness in humans—as a prophylactic treatment forbees. Others blame emissions from cell phone towers.But with no chemical or magic pill to cure colony

collapse disorder, many beekeepers are turning back tonatural methods to strengthen their colonies and coun-teract the affliction.In natural beekeeping, smaller colonies of bees are

encouraged to collect pollen and nectar from local wildflowers and organic crops. And since honey and waxare not intensively harvested from the hives, thecolonies thrive on their own with limited interferencefrom their human caretakers.In late February, this writer joined the ranks of nat-

ural beekeepers, who use wholistic methods to raisecolonies for the honey, wax and propolis they pro-

duce, along with the critical role they play in polli-nating the crops we rely on to feed ourselves. I con-structed two top-bar beehives, an inexpensive artifi-cial hive made out of rough-cut lumber from a localsawmill that mimics where bees in nature typicallymake their home.Unlike the more complicated Langstroth hive, com-

monly used in commercial apiaries, a top-bar hive is asimple system that encourages the bees to constructtheir own combs from wood bars hanging inside thestructure.Langstroth hives, originally designed by Rev.

Lorenzo Langstroth in the mid-19th century, allow forbeekeepers to farm and harvest honey-bee productsusing a complex system of prefabricated frameshoused in stackable boxes called chambers and“supers.” These hives can cost over $100 to make your-self or as much as $500 to buy. Compare that with atop-bar hive, which takes about three hours to buildand costs about $10 for the materials.Once the hive is constructed, natural beekeepers

have two options for populating the structure.Colonies of bees, which are sold by the pound and

contain thousands of bees, can be ordered from farmsthat specialize in rearing queens, drones and workers ata cost of anywhere from $65 for a few pounds to sev-eral hundred dollars. Beekeepers need to make surethey are buying strong bees, however. Most reputablebreeders will discuss this issue with buyers.But the second choice, which is growing in popu-

larity, is for beekeepers to catch a wild swarm from alocal bees’nest and then dump it into the artificial hive.In doing so, beekeepers ensure that they are collectingthe strongest hives that have survived outside on theirown without intervention from humans.My hives will be placed near my family’s market

garden for the benefit of the crops and in an overgrownfield a few miles up the road from the house to takeadvantage of the pollen from the wildflowers and sweetclover that grow there. �

In1930, OttoWarburg, M.D., already renowned forhis research on respiratory enzymes, discoveredthat cancer cells cannot survive in an oxygen-richenvironment. He reasoned that cancer cells thrived

in a low-oxygen environment and that high oxygen lev-els might eradicate these dangerous cells before theycould kill. His experiments checked out, proving that acancer cell cannot exist in an oxidizing, healthy tissue.In 1931 he was awarded the Nobel Prize for Medicine.Hence, both the preventive method and the cure for

cancer have been known for 80 years now. Meanwhile,the American Medical Association (AMA), AmericanCancer Society, World Health Organization and thepharmaceutical industry collect billions of dollars eachyear pretending to search for a cancer cure.Warburg stated that, as the first priority of treatment,

“all growing body cells must be saturated with oxygen,”and the second priority was to avoid further exposure totoxins. While admitting that there are many causes ofcancer, he said that there is only one prime cause andthat is the lack of oxygen at the cellular level.Warburg’s second priority to avoid further exposure

to toxins is more difficult. We are exposed to toxinsevery day in the food we eat, water we drink and air webreathe.
