Arrivederci means ‘until we see
each other again’, and for many
of you, we are looking forward to
seeing you again in September.
For those of you that will be
heading off to other schools or
adventures, we’ll miss you and
we wish you the very best! We
had a fantastic June full of get-
togethers and celebrations. Con-
gratulations to this year’s grad students! We had thirteen grads this year
and six of them were able to join us for the grad celebration at Crown Isle.
We also welcomed a new PIE teacher to our team just after spring break.
Welcome to PIE, Hayley Smisko! On behalf of the PIE staff we would like to
wish all of you a wonderful summer holiday!

Announcements
The last day of this school year was Wednesday, June 29th, and the first day back will be Tuesday, Sep-
tember 6th.
2016-2017 School Year - All Interaction Day events, and most PIE events, will continue to occur on Tues-
days to aid families in reducing conflicts, when possible.
Interaction Days/Activity Surveys - Teachers have already begun planning some of next year’s interaction
day events. Final plans will be made once the activity survey events have been chosen for 2016 -2017. Please
feel free to send your activity survey suggestions now, or watch for an email reminder early in September for
your opportunity to have your suggestions added to the survey. Whenever possible, please include a suggestion
for who might be able to provide the activity you suggest (if it’s something we haven’t offered before), as that
greatly helps us when we go to plan the events. A link to the actual survey will be emailed to all families closer
to the end of September. As always, the top three activities for both Powell River and the Comox Valley will be
planned, if possible; circumstances sometimes dictate that an alternate activity has to be planned.

PIE Showcase
After the PIE Science/Heritage Fair, Delwyn went on to the Vancouver Island Regional Science Fair. “Every year, the University of Victoria hosts the Vancouver Island Regional Science Fair where more than 150 kids present their science projects. While there, you have a chance to view other peoples’ projects, partici-pate in fun presentations and interact with people like you. There are many prizes to be won for entering your project. As you get older there are even some scholarships available. But that’s not why you go. No, you go because you love science! If this interests you, then you can sign up for next year’s science fair. Just do something that interests you. You can build a rocket or study how grass grows. Once you have an idea, execute it then sign up at http://web.uvic.ca/~virsf/index.php. I had lots of fun at the fair and learned plenty. I recommend this to everyone.” —Delwyn
Taryn J. achieved 100% on her Foundations of Math and Pre-Calculus 10 exam!
Congratulations, Taryn!! Outstanding work on your math this year.
