Our reality is going to vastly change in the next few months. Much of this year’s senior class will be moving back to the
states for college, attending college in Japan, or joining the military to serve our great country. Whatever road we may take, each and every one of us will cherish the important lessons learned from our support system.

Class of 2018
E. J. King High School
The senior class of E.J. King High School would like to thank the many wonderful people in our
community who have helped us reach this important milestone.
To the great teachers of our school and to our supportive parents, we want to say THANK YOU! Thank you for the long days, the late nights, and the multiple rides to and from school for sports, dances, plays, tests and meetings! You have been an important part of our Sasebo experience and we will always remember what you’ve done for us!
To our CFAS community: Thank you for your continuous support of our E.J. King teams, clubs and programs. A special thank you to the
Sasebo Community Association and the Officers Spouses Club for your wonderful generosity. From helping our sports teams, to providing substantial scholarships for our E.J. King seniors, your efforts have been deeply appreciated by the Class of 2018.
Our time in Japan has been full of special experiences that will stay with us as we move on to the next chapter in our lives. But wherever we go, a piece Sasebo and E.J. King will stay with us, and we will have fond thoughts of the time we had here as E.J. King Cobras!
Sincerely,
E.J. King Class of 2018

STRIPES JAPAN 5JUNE 1 − JUNE 7, 2018 A SALUTE TO THE CLASS OF 2018
Class of 2018Matthew C. Perry
High School
The famous American poet, William Arthur Ward once said, “If you can imagine it, you can achieve it, if
you can dream it, you can become it.” This mindset of success is forged through the constant support of the parents, educators, and other mentors that have contributed to the Senior Class of 2018 at Matthew C. Perry High School. Although high school is only a small part of the rest of our lives, the memories made here will be ones that are cherished forever. Every one of the students that is preparing to walk across the graduation stage departs Perry as a stronger person thanks to the compassion and dedication of our expansive support system.
We, the student body, would not be equipped with the tools to succeed in the real world without the life experiences shared through our staff. Ever since the first day of freshman year, Mr. Lange, an English teacher at Perry, made clear that we as high school students only had 720 days to make or break our legacy. What we did with those 720 days was entirely up to us. The most important lesson learned from this constant countdown till graduation is that the foundation of education is critical. If our foundation is rich with study habits and time management skills, the next three years will be filled with growth and success. As our countdown reaches the two-minute warning, we can reflect on the fantastic teachers at Perry who put their all into every one of those 720 days to help us achieve greatness.
Too many times we, as seniors, adopt an egocentric mindset and forget to thank the
adults in our households who have assisted us along our journey. Our parents have been there since our first day of kindergarten, all the way through the changes of middle school, to this final ride known as our senior year. We’d like to take the time to show our appreciation of the love and support of our parents. Thank you does not do justice to the amount of time and energy each parent has put into making us prepared to succeed.
Last, but certainly not least, thank you to all the volunteers around the community. The greatest gift you have given us was your time, which you selflessly dedicated to helping us better ourselves academically and athletically. Your willingness to serve is never overlooked, and we are sincerely thankful.
Our reality is going to vastly change in the next few months. Much of this year’s senior class will be moving back to the states for college, attending college in Japan, or joining the military to serve our great country. Whatever road we may take, each and every one of us will cherish the important lessons learned from our support system. The extraordinary contributions of our teachers, parents and mentors make M.C. Perry the greatest place to call home. We, as the Senior Class of 2018, will always be a Samurai at heart.
Sincerely,

STRIPES JAPAN 7JUNE 1 − JUNE 7, 2018 A SALUTE TO THE CLASS OF 2018
Class of 2018Nile C. Kinnick
High School
The 2018 graduating class of Nile C. Kinnick High School would like to send a heartfelt thank you to all who have played pivotal roles in bringing us to this momentous occasion. To all who influenced and pushed us to be our best, thank
you.
To all of the proud parents, I speak for us all when I say that we love you, and we really truly owe you our lives.
You’ve loved us since the moment we were born, and I know that this time in your life is one of mixed emotions. You push us, you challenge us, and you are always behind us. You’ve been the catalyst in becoming our best selves. The immense pride in your child for graduating, and the sorrow you feel simultaneously for your job being done. Thank you, thank you, a million times over, thank you. We are forever in debt to you. For the love you give us, the daily encouragement, and the trust you put in us, we thank you. We hope we made you proud.
To our teachers and administrators, We thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Our successes are because of your
teachings. From the moment many of us stepped onto the campus of Kinnick High School in 2014, we were welcomed. A lot has changed since then, and we have made great strides academically and socially since that time. This growth was in part due to the nurturing nature of teachers and administration. We would not have walked across that stage without the endless hours spent teaching us, forming who we are so we can go off and fully grow into our true selves. We wouldn’t be who we are today if not for your guidance. We will never forget the impact you’ve made on our lives.
Finally, to each and every classmate, never forget: once a Red Devil, always a Red Devil. Congratulations on your commencement.

High School
There are 41 seniors in the class of 2018 who are about to move on to the next chapter of their lives. Whether that
journey is college, military, or joining the work force, all of us are moving on to bigger and more exciting things.
Every single student you see in these photos has put in a ridiculous amount of work to get to this singular point in their lives. However, this would not be possible without the help of the numerous people who have dedicated their time and effort toward our graduation.
I’d like to thank Dr. Tucker and Ms. Rhoad for all their time, tasks and talents dedicated toward graduation as well as all of our senior activities prior to graduation. I’d like to thank Dr. Knight and Dr. Villagomez for their support this school year. They had some big shoes to fill this year and they stepped up with much eagerness and great success. I’d like to thank our counselor, Mr. Keitt, for making sure that everyone was on the right track for graduation. I’d also like to thank every single teacher in the Eagle’s Nest. Some of us see our teachers more often than our parents. They influence our work ethic and core principles. From Mr. Ackermann who has every tool for every job
and a solution to anything I could throw at him, to Mr. Riddle who has supported me in my musical endeavors. I’d also like to thank all of the coaches. Coaches teach us to work hard and give everything we have in any activity we decide to pursue. For those of us who participated in sports, we can’t tell you how much coaches stressed the importance of our grades more than anything else. When they called us student athletes they made sure to let us know that student came before athlete.
Finally, I’d also like to thank our parents for putting up with our attitudes and quirks. They taught us how to survive during the next part of our lives, whether we listened or not, and they supported our goals and dreams no matter how distant they seemed.
Now, to my classmates, the graduates, I’d like to remind you to never give up. Life past high school is difficult. Nothing in life is given, but attending Edgren has given each and every single one of us the tools necessary to survive out there in the real world. And, to the upcoming senior class, the Eagles of 2019, don’t let senioritis take hold too early.

STRIPES JAPAN 15JUNE 1 − JUNE 7, 2018 A SALUTE TO THE CLASS OF 2018
Class of 2018Zama American
High School
We made it. Since the beginning of our high school career we have been looking forward
to graduation and we can finally say that we made it. How did we do it? It wasn’t without challenges, it wasn’t without fun experiences, and it definitely wasn’t without support from our parents and our school. While we are being recognized as the graduating class of 2018, we would like to take the time to recognize all the people who have helped us get here.
First and foremost, we would like to thank our parents. From waking us up every morning to helping us apply to colleges, they have been there with us through every step of the way. High school is tough with rigorous courses, athletics, and other extra-curricular activities, but the encouragement of parents has made all the difference in motivating us to live up to our potential. Parents raised us to never settle for second best, to go after what we want, to give 110%, and make the impossible possible. Without parental inspiration, drive, and support, seniors might not be where they are today.
Our parents taught us values such as honesty, compassion, resilience, respect, patience, and so much more which all contributed to our development as adults. Teachers, counselors, and the overall school administration did the
same for us in a similar, yet different, way. Zama American High School has not only helped us to progress in our learning, but it has also created a safe environment for us to make mistakes and more importantly to learn from them. Thank you to Dr. D’Angelo and Ms. White for being our leaders and guiding us along the right path. Thank you to our counselors for listening to our needs and providing care and compassion when we needed it most. Thank you to our teachers who made the time for our learning and ensured that we received the education we deserved. The investment that the administration has put into each individual student has directly led to the success of the senior class as a whole.
As we cross the finish line we have all been racing towards, we take a moment to look back and reflect on all the steps it took to get there. We have received ample training, followed the rules of the race, and sometimes became lost along the way but we have finally made it to the final stretch. From this marathon we have learned our lessons and have our strengths in preparation for another marathon.
From the Graduating Class of 2018 to You: Thank You! ありがとうございました!
