Gettysburg Campus Update

^ Gettysburg Campus Nursing Department

Message from the Campus Vice President

As we bring closure to another academic year, I’m reminded of the saying “some people dream of success

while others wake up and work hard at it.” Collectively, as a campus and as individuals, I know we’ve

worked hard this year and it shows in our many successes:

Gettysburg Campus Fall 2016 Student Satisfaction rates were ter r ific! Satisfaction scores in all

areas assessed (Advising & Career Services, Financial Aid, Registration, Curr iculum, Technology,

Communications, Safety, Facilities, Student Life and Food Services) ranked above a 3.5 on a 5.0 scale!

With our student’s highest satisfaction areas being cleanliness of campus, availability and access of tech-

nology, level of safety experienced on campus, quality of instruction and size of classes. These scores are

the result of your hard work and commitment to a student centered approach in all you do. (see page 9)

Dual enrollment continues to expand. Over 200 enrollment forms have been submitted for Gettys-

burg High School students for the 2017-18 academic year. Our largest enrollment from any one school to

date! This is due largely to Sara Maines dual advising model with Gettysburg High School guidance coun-

selors.

First high school student to earn HACC degree! Sadira Stallings, a high school senior at South

Western, will be awarded her associate degree in business administration at HACC’s graduation ceremony

on May 11 and will be awarded her high school diploma on June 6 at her high school. Sadira shared with

me, “Ruth Negley and Dr. Xenos really helped me a lot in A&P 1 this semester ! HACC has been a

great experience so far, and I always feel welcomed in my courses!” (see page 6)

31 nurses received their Nursing Pin on May 4. Since opening the program in 2003, we’ve graduated

over 550 nurses. This class was our largest class to

date. All of the students who spoke dur ing the

event credited their success to the nursing faculty,

program director Jill Lott and program assistant

Andree Drake.

Thank you for your hard work this past year to

ensure our student’s success!

Annual Callie Awards, receiving a $1,500 scholarship sponsored by United Way of Adams County and

past Callie Award recipients. Nominated by Jessica Knouse, Indira works at the Adams County Literacy

Day of Transformation

The fifth annual Day of Transformation was held on April 25 in honor of former

Gettysburg Campus vice president Jennifer Weaver. Over 45 women, includ-

fit, down to accessories and shoes; meet

with a professional hair stylist and

makeup expert who provided hair and

makeup tips; and meet with HACC’s

counseling and advising staff Dianne

Three NEW Scholarships Established

The Gettysburg Campus Textbook Emergency Assistance Fund was estab-

lished by Matthew Nowik to provide a source of assistance to students who

cannot afford textbooks or educational supplies as a result of a financial

emergency. Matthew’s work in the bookstore has allowed him to see and

success. Thank you Matthew for your generosity in establishing this fund!

The Gettysburg American Legion,

Post 202 established the Albert

J. Lentz Gettysburg American

Legion Veterans Memorial

Campus veteran students or family members of an honorably discharged veteran.

The Albert and Margaret DeGennaro Memorial Scholarship was estab-

lished by HACC Gettysburg campus Chemistry instructor, Al DeGennaro

and his wife Barbara to honor his parent's commitment to education. This

new scholarship will provide assistance to students from an Adams Coun-

ty or Hanover area high school who have financial need and are pur-

suing a STEM related degree. Al’s dad, Alber t, was one of Loraine

County Community College's (LCCC) first adjunct professors when the

school was formed in the early 1960’s. He continued to teach at LCCC

long after his retirement from public school teaching. Al first began

teaching Chemistry at HACC's Gettysburg campus in 2015 after a 35 year

career as a high school Chemistry and Physics teacher. Thank you Al and
