What’s in the bag of waste Rubbish?

You may think all of these things are just rubbish, but you would be wrong!

All of these things can be either be :- reused, recycled or even upcycled.

In school all paper and cardboard must be recycled .

There are paper bins in every class, the office and staff rooms.

The cardboard and paper can be recycled into other paper and

cardboard products.

All fruit and vegetable waste from the fruit tuck shop, break times and class can and should be composted.

Over time the fruit will break down into fresh compost to help

plants grow.

In school any plastic bottles should be reused as much as possible then recycled .

Recycle them at the same time as the paper and cardboard.

The plastic used in bottles can be remade

into new bottles.

We also have Rag bag bins in school. If you have any unwanted clothes / textiles, footwear or books bring them in to school to be Rag Bagged!

The clothes and textiles and books are reused and given to people who

are less fortunate than us in this country and in developing countries.

School also benefits , the more we collect the more money is donated to

Schools Green Council projects.

We can now recycle any type of plastic pen. Rather than putting them in the bin when they run out put them into the pen boxes around school. Bring them in from home as well if you can. The Green Council will collect all the pens together. They will be sent off

and upcycled into new products rather than going into landfill.

The Green Council will also get 2p per pen. If everyone in the school

recycled 10pens over the year it would raise over £100. Just think what we could raise if we recycled all our pens

at home and school!

Through another organisation we can also recycle cds, dvds, old mobile phones and ink cartridges.Rather than binning them at home and the waste going to landfill, send them to school to get recycled.

A collection box will be set up next to the office and in ¾ corridor. The more we recycle the more money the Green

Council can raise just from recycling unwanted waste.

Rather than binning old unwanted glasses why not recycle them with school reducing waste going to landfill.

A further donation box will be set up near the officeAny glasses donated will be sent to developing countries to

help others to see.

For the past 2 years school has been recycling used batteries. There is a collection tube next to the school office.

Used batteries contain dangerous chemicals, by

recycling them with school it keeps them out of landfill so they can be disposed safely so not to damage the environment.

And finally…We can now recycle any used plastic toothbrushes and empty toothpaste tubes. Rather than putting them in the bin why not recycle them with school.A collection box will be set up in school

soon. When the box is full they will be sent off and upcycled into new products like pencil cases, rather than going into

landfill.

The Green Council will also get 2p per item . If everyone in the school recycled

10 brushes / tubes over the year it would raise over £100. Just think what

we could raise if we recycled all our brushes / empty tubes?

So none of the items shown are rubbish. They are all important materials.

Lets make a difference at Hawes Side and recycle and reuse as much of our waste as possible.

This year we will also be linking our harvest festival to reducing waste and reusing the precious resources our world has given us.

Rather than food donations this year why not change a habit and think before you throw away!!
