INTRODUCTION
A linecutting, geological surveys were performed over a 3 claim group held by Mr. John Pilger, in the Township of McAuslan. This work was performed to trace a source of, and to try and locate a new sources of, decorative stone.
LOCATION AND ACCESS
The property is located in the Township of McAuslan approximately 50 kilometers northeast of the City of North Bay along the border between RT.S. 31-L/l l and 3 l-L/4. Specifically the property is located along the southeast border of the township.
The area can be reached via highway 63 between North Bay , Ont. and Temiscaming, Quebec, then north along a forest access road, called the Mcconnell Lake Road, for approximately 20 kilometers.
PROPERTY
The property consists of three claims numbered 1197834, 1197835, and 1197836 and were all covered by this survey. Each claim consists of +/-16 Ha. each for a total of +/-4S Ha. The claims are held in the name of Mr. John Pilger, R.R. #5, Orillia, Ont.
PREVIOUS WORK
McAuslan Township and the surrounding Townships have been subjected to prospecting and quarrying for many years. At the present time one active quarry exists in the township, at Reynolds Lake. An old quarry site, situated on a patent claim, is located at the north end of Threetrails Lake on the access road to the claim group. This site has been inactive for years.
On the mapped claims no old trenches, etc. were located to indicate previous work. Mr. John Pilger has performed some stripping on an outcrop in claim 1197835 to expose a possible quarriable decorative stone.
The reader is referred to files located at the Ministry of Northern Development and Mines in Sudbury, Ont. for a complete history of exploration in the area.

LINECUTT1NG
An east-west baseline was established along the common boundary of claims 1197836 and 1197835 from Threetrails Lake to Wyse Lake. It was then ran east from L3E, l DOS to the east boundary of claim 1197834 at L8E. Lines were established every 100 meters along the baseline and ran north-south. Stations were located every 25 meters along the lines. A total of 6.4 kilometers of grid was established.
REGIONAL GEOLOGY
The area is located in the northern portion of the Central Gneiss Belt of the Grenville Province. This part of the belt is mainly underlain by metasediments and are represented as biotite, muscovite, quartzose and feldspathic gneisses. In Parkman Township iron formations are interbedded in the gneisses.
Intruded into these rocks are gneissic felsic rocks consisting of quartz monzonites, granodiorites and trondhjemites and mafic intrusives consisting of anorthosites, gabbros, diorites and amphibolites. To the west and southwest of the area the Mullock granite batholith is exposed over an area of 530 square kilometers.
Generally the rocks trend in a southeast direction but as they approach the Grenville Front Tectonic Zone they change to a northeast direction.
PROPERTY GEOLOGY
The property was found to be underlain by basically three rock types trending mainly in a direction of 3000 . The property is generally covered with a thin veneer consisting of gravel and till on the hillsides and a thick covering of gravel, till and sand in the valleys.
Stripping of outcrops by mechanical means could be easily accomplished on the hillsides. Most of the outcrops located during the mapping were located along the edge of the hills and required some stripping.
Muscovite Quartzite Gneiss - This unit is composed of fine to locally coarse grained whitish muscovite in a white fine grained quartzite matrix. It is in this unit that several old trenches and pits in the area are located and the present location of the new site of Mr. John Pilger (3+40E, 1+90S). Locally the mica becomes green and occasionally pink to red. The coarse grained variety is usually located along and in quartz veins.
An outcrop located and stripped on the hillside on L4E, 2+25S consisted of the same light green quartzite as located in the stripped area by Mr. John Pilger. Some fine layers of the pink to red variety were noted at this site. Further stripping between these 2 sites and further southeasterly along the hillside to L5E should expose more of this favourable rock unit.
Outcrops located on the hill on lines 2W and 'O', north of the access road, are composed of a white micaceous quatzite with just a faint greenish tinge.
(3)
Biotite Gneiss - This unit is exposed in the cental portion of claim 1197835 and is located between 2 units of the muscovite quartzite gneiss. The rock is a light tan colour, medium to coarse grained, feldspathic, with small flecks of biotite. In places the biotite content can be high but is generally 1007o or less. Exposures were located along the hillsides. In places angular to subrounded boulders were noted and are probably not far from source. The rock is probably an arkosic metasediment.
Gneissic Clastic Metasediment - This rock type was located only along the eastern boundary of the property on L8E. It was exposed in a series of small cliffs and steep outcrops. The rock is similar to the biotite gneiss but contains pebbles. It may be a sub-unit of the biotite gneiss.
CONCLUSIONS
Mapping of the property has shown that the light green muscovite quartzite gneiss located at 3+40E, 1+90S extends along the hillside to at least L4E, 2+25S. Also, outcrops of this same unit were located at L2W and L'O' near the north end of claim 1197836 and near the southwest corner of claim 1197835. Further stripping of the outcrops in these areas should locate new sources of quarryable decorative stone.
RECOMMENDATIONS
From the conclusions of the mapping program it is recommended that the hillside from L3E,175 -225S to L 5E, 225 -275 S be mechanically stripped to expose the muscovite quartzite gneiss. This exposed area should be selectively drilled and blasted. Samples should be taken for splitting and marketing. Further prospecting and mapping should take place on the ground to the south of claims 1197834 and 1197835 and if warranted these claims should also be staked.
