Seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time

Our Gospel today continues Jesus Sermon on the Plain, in which we heard Luke's version of the Beatitudes. This week,

Jesus gives us new commandments, telling us how to live and act in the world as his disciples, rooted in the radical love of

God for humanity. It reminds us of his later speech about loving one another as he loves us, in other words with a

God-like love, the kind we see in todays psalm about Gods mercy. How else could we do as Jesus tells us by loving our enemies, which seems impossible, until we remember that

God gave us the example of Jesus, who is like God but also like us? David understands this merciful love when he spares the life of his enemy in the first reading. Finally, Paul tells us that

we will become like Jesus if we act as he did, as God does.

Seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time February 24, 2019

   JMJ February 23, 2019

My Dearest Parish Family, God be with us always. Thank you from the bottom of my heart to those who have taken the time and made the effort to participate in the opportunity to be of service to our neighbors in need and the other beneficiaries of the Diocesan Pastoral Services Appeal. However, if present circumstances do not give you yet the capability to make the commitment may I encourage you to pray for the success of the 2019 PSA Appeal. May I also stress that the important thing is that we involve ourselves in anyway possible – the intention of the heart matters. I am aware that some make their contributions towards the end of the year and that is also very helpful. “Shake your each other’s hand or better yet hug each other . . .” This how I remember how my family – well mostly my mother, made sure that my brother or any one else with whom I got into a fight are truly reconciled. This maybe simplistic but it has instilled in my heart and mind that forgiveness out of love is an action word. Love is not merely spoken but manifested in one’s way of living. Blessed Isaac of Stella wrote: “Charity is the initial principle and end to which all things should be directed.” Our Lord Jesus in this Sunday’s Gospel clearly states that charity should be our guiding principle in life. The ideal we are to follow is to go far and beyond the world does love because it is to love not until it hurts but even though it hurts. It is involves being charitable to our enemies. One of my dreams is that when people come to our parish on any given day – they feel welcomed and observe how engaged we are in loving one another. We can all do this by starting from making the effort to acknowledge each other with a smile. As I have invited in the past we can always at the Sunday Celebrations reach out to one another by turning to the person beside and say: “I will pray for you – do please pray for me.”

We have one more weekend before Ash Wednesday let us begin by praying for the grace and resolve to enter into the Lenten Season with a sincere and humble heart that recognizes our constant need to be transformed by the discipline of prayer, fasting and abstinence. Our Dynamic Catholic initiative will provide us with many opportunities to be so engaged in Lent – one of which is to enter into the “Best Lent Ever,” this is one of my dreams and I do hope that I will be yours as well. I already signed up for it – what is keeping you from doing so? Let’s do it! God bless and take care. Love and prayers,

Fr. Thomas Paul K. Naval

¡Vamos a hacerlo! Dios bendiga y cuide. Con amor y mis oraciones,

P. Thomas Paul K. Naval

PASTORAL SERVICES APPEAL (PSA) 2019

“We Are One, Living the Gospel Message” Our Parish goal for the 2019 Pastoral Services Appeal is for at leas 600 of families to pledge $133,000 to support Faith Formation, Outreach Ministries, Clergy Formation and Support and parish and diocesan advancement. Gifts made over that amount will go toward church needs and

maintenance of our own parish. The PSA provides a convenient way for all of us, no matter what our time limitations, to take an active role in the mission of the

church. As a guide to a proportionate gift, please consider pledging a percent of your income, or the pay for one or two hours work each month for ten months.

You can submit your PSA Pledge Envelope during Masses this weekend or next, or return them to the

parish office.

Important Information: Regarding Your Tithing We are able to track weekly donations only when our parishioners use their envelopes or utilize electronic fund transfer through WeShare. Loose cash or checks do not get posted to our database. To have your tithing documented, especially for tax purposes, please be sure to use either the envelopes or WeShare so we may properly record your contribution to the parish. When including a check in the donation envelope, please write your envelope number (which is also your Parish ID number) in the memo line of your check, as well as list the check number on the envelope. Thank you for your assistance and God bless you for your continued generosity.
