JMJ December 23, 2018

My Dearest Parish Family, God be with us always. A Blessed, Memorable and Meaningful Christmas to all of you. As I write this letter, I remember one person who I admired and who was an inspiration for me. I know him as “EO,” we met and I became familiar with him as I celebrated many Masses with him and the good people of Freedom Village. He passed away early this month and I presided at the Funeral Mass and celebration of his life last week. I like his name “EO” and the name of their residence . . . Freedom. Let me start by sharing how when I was reflecting what to share during the homily I thought about the initials of his nickname “EO.” It dawned on me that seeing how he lived his life – I now believe it stands for “Extra-Ordinary.” From my vantage point, I say he is “EO” because he did the ordinary things of life essentials in an “Extra-Ordinary” loving way. It reminded me of what Mother Teresa once said that “Following God is doing ordinary things with extra-ordinary love.” This Christmas Season let us not merely conform to the ordinary and routine. When I am shopping or buying things last Advent and people would thank me and say: ”Happy Holidays” I would always reply: “Merry Christmas.” We will not have this worldwide holiday if it were not for the precious gift of the Incarnation of the Son of God: Emmanuel. Let us free ourselves and be who we are called to be witnesses to the manifestation of a Loving Father who shared the most precious gift of His Son Our Lord Jesus. The Birth of the Saviour is the reason for the Season of Faith, Hope and Love. He will speak to us of the truth, guide us on the salvific way and allow us once again to enter into our eternal home in heaven. We have engaged in the numerous events and celebrations to usher this day. Let us

waver in our calling to live the season by sharing our faith, by giving hope and by manifesting love – in ordinary ways with extra-ordinary grace we ask from God. Let us spend the remaining days praying, reflecting and asking guidance from God how to do ordinary things with extra-ordinary love. We are going to receive a gift this Christmas that will support the Dreams we continue to write and meditate about in the Covenant Dream Book we receive at the beginning of this month. I humbly ask you to take time to read this book – pray with it – reflect on the words that catches your attention and contemplate on how we can use the challenge and inspiration we receive to enter into 2019 as dreamers . . . believers . . .doers of the gift of faith, hope and love in the person of the Child Jesus in the Manger. Once again a Blessed and Merry Christmas. Love and prayers,

Fr. Thomas Paul K. Naval

Padre Thomas Paul K. Naval

Pope Saint John Paul ll First Class Relic’s recent visit to Santiago de Compostela brought an outpouring of graces to so many; from the time of its arrival Friday evening, November 16 to its departure after the 8 am Mass, Tuesday, November 20. Cecilia and others from not so distant cities like Claremont, Riverside, and San Diego. Thank you to the Santiago Ministries and Prayer Groups who collaborated and helped tirelessly to guard the relic: Divine Mercy Ministry, Spanish Catechists and Ministers, FIL-AM Marian Devotees of Santiago, Cristo Rey, Knights of Columbus, just to name a few.

Your welcoming spirit and dedication was astounding and so much appreciated. Everything turned out beautiful ! Our Loving God, thank you for all these blessings and for Your Love.

WHAT IS THE BIGGEST LIE IN THE HISTORY OF CHRISTIANITY?

Do you believe it is possible to be happier than you have ever been? Not for fleeting moments, but consistently?

Bestselling author Matthew Kelly believes it is possible—and in his latest book, The Biggest Lie in the History of

Christianity, he explains how. Get the practical tools neces-sary to dispel the false promises the modern culture feeds

you, and discover the single truth that is the key to regaining your fervor, bringing Christian unity, and

leaving your mark on the world—and experiencing more happiness than you thought possible. This is a must-read

for every Catholic in America. Receive your copy this Christmas as a gift of the parish.

DYNAMIC CATHOLIC SURVEY

If you were not here at Mass this past weekend to complete the parishioner survey from Dynamic Catholic, we request that you take the survey before December 31st electronically please text bold14 to 51555 on your phone or visit the parish office to

take a paper version. The survey takes 5-7 minutes to complete. To help both our parish and Dynamic Catholic determine the

right resources for our community, they have asked us all to take this survey once per year. The majority of the questions

focus on our individual faith habits. No matter where you are in your journey, by taking the survey you will be joining me in this

parish striving to become all God dreams we can be. We are grateful for every response received.

momentos fugaces, sino consistentemente?

We all want to be happy, but there is a single lie that is preventing billions of people from experiencing lasting happiness—and many don’t even realize it. When you come to Mass this Christmas, you will receive a copy of the book The Biggest Lie in the History of Christianity. This special gift from our parish will empower you to overcome the lie so that you can experience more happiness than you even thought possible.
