SCRIPTURAL REFLECTION January 28, 2018

“Brothers and sisters: I should like you to be free of anxieties.” 1Cor 7:32

How much anxiety do we bring upon ourselves by constantly worrying about not having enough or attaining more things? God won’t necessarily give you everything you want, but He will provide everything you need. Try this – use the word “pray” instead of the word “worry” in the future.

Gesù pensaci tu! Jesus, You take over! Prayer of Fr Dolindo Ruotolo, Servant of God

VOCATION PRAYER CHALICE Praying for vocations to the Priesthood and Religious life is both a responsibility and privilege of the laity. We at Saint Ann Church have begun a beautiful ministry of prayer for vocations using the Vocation Prayer Chalice. Each Sunday at the end of a Mass, a family or individual will be presented the Vocation Prayer Chalice, a candle, and a booklet with prayers for each day of the week. In taking the Prayer Chalice, they commit themselves to pray each day during that week on behalf of our parish for vocations. There is no doubt that the Holy Spirit is calling forth men and women (boys and girls) from this very parish community to these courageous and beautiful roles of service in the Church. May our prayers help inspire them to be attentive to the movement of the Holy Spirit within them and to step forward in faith and with generous hearts to wherever the Spirit leads them! Consider being part of this wonderful opportunity of prayer... Please pray on it! If you would like to receive the Vocation Prayer Chalice into your home and pray for vocations, please contact the parish office at 201-659-1114 or email [email protected] and have your name placed on the schedule. There is power in prayer. The blessings and graces are endless!

PRAYER for VOCATIONS O Father, You desire all of us to be happy.

Stir up the grace of a Religious vocation in the hearts of many men and women.

Grant to them the willingness and generosity to give of themselves, their lives, their time and their talents

to the service of Jesus Christ, Your Son, Our Lord and Savior,

and to His Holy Church. May more men and women go forth as Priests, Deacons, Brothers and Sisters to bring the truths of our Catholic faith

to all others so that soon they, too, may know You better and love You more... and serving You, be truly happy. Amen.

JOIN US in DAILY PRAYER for VOCATIONS Please pray one OUR FATHER, one HAIL MARY, one GLORY BE for an increase in vocations for the

Capuchin Franciscan Friars Province of the Stigmata of Saint Francis and to the Archdiocese of Newark. For more info, please visit www.capuchinfriars.org or www.rcan.org/offices-and-ministries/vocations.

ACCELERATED CONFIRMATION CLASSES for ADULTS

Classes are thru March 27th, 7pm – 9pm Padre Pio Chapel, 619 Jefferson Street (we will work with you and your schedule)

The Accelerated Adult Confirmation Classes are for adults who are baptized Catholic, received First Communion, catechized and are now seeking to complete their Sacraments of Initiation. Why be confirmed? Confirmation brings the process of Christian Initiation to completion, to be fully initiated in the Catholic faith. What do we do? We meet as a small group, focusing on the connection of the practice of our Catholic faith to everyday lives; looking at our image of God and how it affects our relationship with Him. Various resources are used including the US Catholic Catechism for Adults, ‘CATHOLICISM’ Video Series Program and The New American Bible, Revised Edition. It is an opportunity to see our faith, as adults for the first time with an adult understanding. For more info/details, please contact Cheryl M James, Director of RCIA via phone: 201-659-1114 Ext. 102 or email:[email protected]. PLEASE NOTE: Adults, who have not completed their sacraments of Baptism and First Communion, are candidates for the Saint Ann Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) Program, a ministry for adults who are interested in learning more about the Catholic faith and addresses the conversion needs of: * Adults who have never been baptized; * Adults who have been baptized in another Christian tradition; * Adults who were baptized Catholic but have not had instruction in the faith or have not received the Sacraments of First Eucharist and/or Confirmation. The RCIA Program is about growth in faith and growth in a relationship with God. To learn more about the Saint Ann RCIA Program, please go to our website: www.stannhoboken.com, click on the EDUCATION Tab, and on the drop down menu, click RCIA. Please contact Cheryl M James for details and more information about the Saint Ann RCIA Program. Athought...

UNLOCKING the MYSTERY of the BIBLE A Lenten Journey

Unlocking the Mystery of the Bible, by Jeff Cavins and Sarah Christmyer, is an engaging 8-week journey through Salvation History that

provides the easiest way to understand the Bible. The series begins on Thursday February 1st at

7:00pm and will continue to meet every Thursday through March 22nd in the Church.

Each session includes a 30-minute video presentation and group discussion.

Unlocking the Mystery of the Bible makes the complex simple. It helps us uncover the story woven throughout Scripture so that we can get the “big picture” of the Bible and understand what it is all about. The Bible is a story about

the Father’s unfailing love for us, each one of us, individually - a love that we are now

called to share with others. Participants are asked to purchase a student

workbook (available at Ascensionpress.com). To register, please email Cheryl James

[email protected] or call the Parish Office: 201-659-1114 ext 102

DIVORCED/SEPARATED SUPPORT GROUPS

Separated/Divorced Parish Support Groups will be starting their Spring sessions!

"It's true . . . there's no such thing as "Catholic Divorce" ...but millions of Catholics DO get civilly divorced. It affects and hurts us all. Maybe you or someone you know has suffered the breakdown of the marriage and family, or maybe they are going through it right now. No matter how long it's been, the Church IS HERE to help. The Archdiocese of Newark currently has 13 parishes who offer a support group for the separated/divorced and these groups will be starting during the next couple months. For a list of these groups, please visit our website at: www.rcan.org/separateddivorced-support-groups or Email [email protected] or call the Family Life Office at 973-497-4327.
