WillowWood at Overton Preserve is at the midway point between New York City and Montauk, and equidistant between the Long Island Sound and the Great South Bay.

In the 1700’s David Overton chose this spot to build a farmhouse and to raise a family. When the American War for Independence began, the area came under British military control and was used to store firearms and 300 tons of hay. A daring raid by patriot soldiers destroyed the British stockpile. Its been said the Overton’s youngest son, Nehemiah, was the first to set the hay on fire. Years later the Daughters of the Revolution set a plaque at the site commemorating the event.

Today there are still remains of the original Overton farmhouse. The farm has recently become a nature preserve with hundreds of acres of woodlands, wetlands, meadows and ponds. Running through the preserve is the David Overton trail, a multi use path for you to enjoy.
